So glad I found your channel, Thank you! I recently purchased a used GH4 with a Metabones speed booster to allow me to use my Canon glass and am quite happy so far. The GH5 I suspect will continue in the near future to have firmware upgrades which might improve some of the points you mentioned so I will still keep my eye on that camera. I am a long term photographer but still have a lot to learn in video especially with editing so your info is very valuable. Cheers, Pete

Dark Horse thanks. Always nice to have some feedback. Small channels like mine get easily overlooked. Gh4 is still great. Kept mine and use it all the time. Such a robust camera. My touchscreen stopped working but I’m happy using the buttons anyway. Which booster did u go for?
@PeteWoronowski7 жыл бұрын
I hear you on growing your channel mine is coming along slowly. The booster came used with the GH4 and is the Meatabones Ultra .71 You just made me realize I should see what other options there are for the boosters. Thanks again and Take care, Pete

If you could buy a new GH4 or a used GH5 on eBay would you feel comfortable buying on eBay if the owner still had the manual and the box and said the camera was in perfect shape? Or do you think it is not worth the risk of buying a used camera on eBay? Trying to decide which camera to purchase.

I'd wonder how the vfr would work if you planned for pixel binning artifacts, like plain backgrounds and the like. It might leave some more of the bit rate for a subject. Thanks for the test shots.
@biscuitsalive7 жыл бұрын
Sun Pixel Video yes if you actually get some sexy narrow depth of field fhd vfr shots you could sex up the higher frame rates. But I was just really hoping for very clean high vfr. But it's just a bit clumpy. :( But the 4K 60p makes up for it anyway. It's just lovely and clean. Can't wait to get some nice lighting/subject matter for that.

Right. 4K 60p is a marvel all on its own. Maybe my wife will let me have my bank card back sometime, so I can get one. :P

Thanks very much for this video! It is the best gh4 vs. gh5 comparsion so far that i found. And it took a little bit pressure of me to immediatly upgrade to gh5... ;-) I will stay with my gh4 for a while, the only two things why i will buy the gh5 in the future is the IBIS with primelenses and the 4K 50/60p... Thanks for your work!

Hey, glad it was useful. yep agreed, not an essential purchase if already own gh4. thanks for the input.

That IBIS is a winner!

Maybe you should try Blackmagic Davinci Resolve to work with 10-bit footages? It's free and works well on it!

Thanks, its all fine now though, since premier update... still struggle with 6k files, but everything else is fine now on premiere.

Great video! I really like your conclusions. I use the GH5 with the Speed Booster Ultra (0.71) and the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8. When I turn on the camera, I am asked to set the correct focal length. I could only set one value. Do you know if I can set the range 12.8mm-24,9mm?

Matthew White lots of options out there. Do u need low light? Second hand a7s about. (No4k and bad battery... but very clean 1080/fullframe) Do u need slomo? Many of the cheaper canon/Sony/panasonics are great too
@sonvfave7 жыл бұрын
My a6000 was my first mirrorless.. was thinking along those lines of the a7s how many stops of range is it ? I would like low light and video
@biscuitsalive7 жыл бұрын
Matthew White I think it's about 12 stops of DR. Maybe 13 in slog. It is a lovely image from a7s Colour are not as accurate as canon/Panasonic. But it is real nice HD FF

Read a bunch last night man the a7s is a great night shooter.. then its an upgrade to the a7s2 and I am back to looking at a 2k investment haha
@biscuitsalive7 жыл бұрын
yep, best low light you will find for your £ (a7s / a7s2) if u don't need internal 4k the a7s is lovely.

hey,We need that 10bit gh5 footages vs gh4 8bit test,Plzzzz you can upload it to youtube str8 from camera, i wanna see the different in color
@biscuitsalive7 жыл бұрын
Brian Wynn i work with 10bit often anyway from diff cameras. You won't see hardly any difference on KZbin. KZbin will just crush it all down and to look the same. You have to grade it a fair bit to appreciate the 10 bits lack of banding. Or it's useful if you are doing chroma keying and things like that. I'm sure they will release a update soon so I can work with gh5 10bit. I will do another vid then.

Ik this video is old but when you were having problems editing were u using the 4K footage straight out of the camera? Or did u try editing with proxies?
@biscuitsalive6 жыл бұрын
MDH Films yep this is old. Back when gh5 first released the 10bit high bit rate 4K wasn’t supported by most editors. (Premiere etc.) It’s fine now after a few updates.
@tingtaiji7 жыл бұрын
Did premiere crash even if you used media encoder and used proxies until the final render?
@biscuitsalive7 жыл бұрын
tingtaiji hi. Yes you can use proxys and work. But I find this a giant headache and I'm very used to not having this as part of my work flow. (I can understand why that sounds lazy, but as I have never needed to do this before I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from.) I'm sure Adobe will fix this soon though. And il try to remember to update my subscribers when this happens.
@tingtaiji7 жыл бұрын
biscuitsalive thanks for the reply. I was just unclear. I'm coming from a slow computer where proxies and transcoding smaller files was a must. There's a few easy tutorials around here--if you have the need for the extra 10bit.

big price jump, Im looking at adding a video only camera and under 800 new for the 4 and what like 2k for the 5 ? ouch
@biscuitsalive7 жыл бұрын
Matthew White u can get gh5 for 1600 with no lens. Luckily I have a ton of lenses already. And lots of good m43 or adaptive options out there. Some of them cheap.
