The Panasonic GH4 - Old and useless or still a good choice?

I'm still shooting low budget full feature films with my GH4. I just bought it on 2020 after loosing my Canon 7D with a 5 lens set while on location to shoot a movie. And I love it!

@@RandomRotation stolen. i Ended up using an old Iphone SE to shoot that movie until I got Covid and went to hospital for two months. Another at home and returned to filmmaking, now with a GH4 and I love it!

If you hook up a gh4 to the image app on an ipad, activate the zoom function on the ipad settings, you can then enlarge the monitor window to fill the whole ipad screen using three fingers, basically turning the ipad into a full screen monitor.

I'm shooting with GH4 and I'm sticking to it. So far it seems like none of newer Lumixes are vastly better in lowlight and the other thing I would need is in body stabilization. A good one. Honestly when it comes to 1080p even GH2 is still killer and in some cases better than GH4 (it's less noisy in the shadows for some reason). I don't want to switch to Sony, so unless GH6 comes with good in body stabilization, I'm not buying anything new for a long, long time.

I absolutely agree, it's an impressive camera. Even after all these years. And like I said it still is in use. At the moment I'm shooting on both, Panasonic and Sony. They both have their strenght and weaknesses.

I'm just starting to delve into pro-video work, shadowing an independent filmmaker. I've been thinking of getting a used camera on the cheap (not for client work, but just to learn with as my first video-focused camera). There's an opportunity to buy a used GH4 from a friend - it's in great condition - for about 180 euro. Should I just jump at it or wait for another deal? I don't have much of a budget, so I know I won't be able to afford a secondhand GH5 / equivalent for quite a while, even if the prices get cut when the GH6 rolls around.

Get it! 180 is a very good price. I don’t think you‘ll regret it. Even if you buy a GH6 or something similar in the future, you can still use the GH4 as your B-cam.

Unless you have the Metabones Speeds booster and a low light lens. I have gotten some good low light footage run and gun stuff . My go to lens for this camera Canon 24-70mm, 16-35mm Sigma 18-35, Nikon 35mm .. Awesome channel !

Hi I have big request, it’s been 2 months I tried to setup my Gh4 100 times and followed KZbin experts settings but still when I shoot the video is coming bright and play back bright in camera monitor, however hen I export the photage video to my Mac book pro 16 inch, the video is darker.. I use 3.6 aperture 50 shutter 4k 25p , iso 400-800, 1 roof light 2 led lights, AWB, Cinelike D -5,-5,-3,0,+1, masterpedisteral +5.. I m really frustrated with, any solution plz

Is it possible that you have set your cam monitor brightness to high? Sometimes it's those little things.

@@RandomRotation no, the camera LCD brightness is set middle.. actually when I use the up dial and put it on P or M mode the recording is as clear bright on my computer as what show on LCD,, but those modes aren’t have 4K and the quality isn’t that good.. as everyone use Video logo M mode, and that’s the perfect mode for video but that’s coming clear on lcd but darker on computer, I don’t know why the other comes bright on both screen same, and the special video M mode coming out dark photage in computer

I love my 80d, but I'm thinking of getting a gh4 for the synchro scan, I'd love to get a gh5 or gh5s but they are too expensive and I can't justify buying them just for the synchro scan (as I don't need 4k60 all that much)

Thanks! The FUJIFILM X-T30 is close to 1.000,-. That's a pretty solid camera. Or the Sony Alpha 6400. It depends on where you see yourself in the future. Switching systems is expensive. And there's a good chance, that your lenses will stay with you longer than the cameras you buy. Choose wisely :)
