I’ve ridden the whole of the uk main run Dover to Newcastle several times and I’ve done all the breakouts on different occasions. On average I was doing 23mph. Although most of the northern ( wales and up is a little slower) so working the amph in the south of the country can throw things out a lot because most of the southern trails are easier and more flowing than the rest of the country. The compounding affect of multi day rides can impact your averages. Also camping or B&B can change things considerably. Wild camping is often the most convenient and saves a lot of time.

Very useful analysis - for me I reckon on 120 miles for a full days green laning allowing for stops / drinks / food dropping to between 80 ~ 100 miles max for less experienced riders or tougher lanes. Best to enjoy the ride 😄👍

Great thanks for the info now I can roughly work out how long it will take me to drive all the way around Spain and Portugal .

Great video, I don't think you're too far off the mark. We did a route last week in Yorkshire and averaged a speed of 22.4mph but we were taking it steady as I'm still running in.

I'm gonna do some of the TET starting in the Peak District going up north for 3 days, I'll try and time it and get back with some values for more challenging sections.

Hi, We are looking at doing the Cornwall loop at the end of this month, I have watched most of your videos and wondering where the best routes are? The route 1and2 that you have done to lands end looks like lots of road work that we are trying to avoid, would you say closer to Devon is better riding? Thanks and great videos 👍🏻 🛵

Hi. I do think there are more roads the further SW you go. But there are a few nice bits worth it in the middle of Cornwall. I like many TET bits around - Bodmin, Bissoe (below Truro), Near Perranporth. From what I’ve seen of Devon it is more “off road” byways compared to Cornwall. But I’m a big fan of the coast so I’m biased for Cornwall. (Many other things to do besides just riding the byways down here.) But in general, yes byways in north Cornwall are more numerous.

When I’ve done all of Devon too I will be able to advise better. But keep missing opportunities to do a long Devon run. :( Maybe very soon tho

most noobs will see the average fall a hell of a long way once they come up into bath, bristol and wales and head north via peaks and into the proper north - a lot of people will be lucky to hit walking pace, be aware. Yes the roads bring the average up as will the fast and very wide off road sections in the dales but be warned, there are many areas where some people could be very lucky to do 40 miles in a 10 hour day.

I am planning on doing a few easiest bits of the TET from Kielder to Holyhead... Any suggestions?

I think your average is a little high. A few of us have done some decent sections around Northumberland and the lakes. Worst day was 191 miles which took 13.5 hours including stops. So 14 - 17mph average inc fuel and breaks is about the pace (good riders on hard sections). 191 miles was way too much and we were like the walking dead the day after. For multi day rides I reckon you need to be looking at 100 miles per day (130 miles at a push).

Fair comment. I’ve done more riding since then and have noticed it massively varies depending on who I ride with too. Literally half the speed/distance with some riders. And a little faster/further with others. So I think I agree. My examples here are for best case scenarios. At a fair lick. If you see what I mean.

Most of my off-road/road tet type riding is 32mph average and 8 hours days is to short I'll push 200-250 miles a day
