This might be a hot take, but I've also met other bisexuals who do the same. I tend to be a de facto "bisexual nationalist" in the sense I usually date other bisexuals. Not on purpose, but it's just easier, freeing, understanding, and we have more in common. I don't have to "get over the hump" of having to get the partner to accept my bisexuality. Less time wasting. I do like the "genderless-ness" of dating other bisexuals too. Even if the bisexual is a woman, I don't feel like we're "straight" or conforming to heteronormativity, despite being able to "pass" as a straight duo.

If you're a bi dude, good luck trying to hold a relationship with a straight woman for more than a couple weeks. In my experience, the sexual dynamic just doesn't match and anything that's too outside of traditional gender roles will be a major problem down the line. @DaveTexas Жыл бұрын
I’ll admit that all my experiences with bi guys have been negative, too. I’m older and was dating back in the 1980s and 1990s when things were different and fewer people - especially bi guys - were "out." While the gay men I dated back then were all out and very open about their sexuality, the bi guys I dated were all much less open about their sexuality in general, which made it seem like they were hiding things. That was hard for me to deal with, as once I was out, I was out all the way. No secrets, no closets. Then there were the two bi guys I dated who ended up telling me that they needed to go back to dating women because it was "easier." Societal pressures were too much for them and they felt that being "gay" was too difficult. Maybe it was, but it reality felt like one of those "it’s not you, it’s me" breakups. Since I didn’t have the option of deciding not to be gay anymore, I couldn’t empathize with their plight. As unfair as it is to generalize, I wasn’t going to put myself through that again, having to worry about being dumped because being perceived as "gay" got to be too hard. I’ve been married for more than 25 years now and my husband was married to a woman before I met him. The difference is that he’s not bi; he was always gay but felt societal and religious pressure to be straight so he married a woman and had two kids. It was only when he gave up on trying to do what society dictated that he became happy with himself. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that I have trouble being around people who aren’t being true to themselves. I got burned by a couple of bi guys early in life and that made me wary of all of them. That’s not fair to bi guys, but I did what I needed to do to protect myself. I did the same thing with closeted gay men - I had one as a boyfriend for a couple of months when I was in college, but that got old very quickly and I refused to ever date a closeted guy again. So, to all the guys out there, bi, gay, or otherwise: be true to yourself and to anyone with whom you’d like to have a relationship. Don’t keep secrets and then wonder why no one trusts you…

Ohmgosh, want to add some awareness to this discussion. Being bisexual is not half-way between straight and gay worlds, just like being enby is not halfway between being trans and cis. Bisexuals are 100% within the queer community and they never once leave it even when dating a straight person. A bisexual dating a straight person has its own difficulties (aka, am I going to encounter homophobia in this relationship?) and SO many bisexuals would rather date other bi- or pan-people, because they just get our FULL persona, not like a sliver. Cross-gendered relationships are not automatically hetero, and they are so queer in so many ways. Yes, there are some privileges that come with being bisexual, though I'm not sure the video quite got them. I think if you are running into bi-men who see gay sex as a kink, you are running into more straight leaning men who are exploring. Most bi-men I know are SOLIDLY in the queer community and would never fetishize our gay brothers. We see gay relationships as 100% as real as straight relationships and if we end up being in a cross-gendered marriage it is for so many reasons, and our Bi-ness never disappears. What is real, though, is bi-phobia and exclusion even within the gay/queer communities. It can sometimes be hard to understand how someone can be attracted to ALL peoples, but be assured it is possible! We bi people date people for a variety of factors, particularly their individualized psyche/physique, so we by no means are turning you into a kink!

I think the situation is far more complicated than that with bisexual men unless they prefer men more a lot of them will not come out. This is because a lot of heterosexual women are not attracted to bisexual men in the sense they don't want to think of their man being in the 'recieving' end like a women. Moreover, in heternormative relationships you decrease contact with the opposite sex afte marriage as to avoid temptation. With bisexuals this is obviously impossible however this custom is too ingrained in heternormative relations that most women arent willing to take the risk unless they really love this man or if the bisexual is 'masculine' enough/have other qualities that it may not matter. Now with the gay men. There is definitely a fetishization of catching a 'straight masculine man’ however a lot of bisexual men do view gay men as people only to date not build a future with or even worse just for sex or to experience something different before they go back to the 'real' world, of having wives and BIOLOGICAL children. With already of culture that lacks commitment dating a bisexual man adds to another layer of uncertainty. All this unfortunately also effects how bisexuals can navigate the dating scene and these two worlds BUT to just to shut the discussion by calling everything biphobia feels disingenuous and also harmful for bisexuals in being able to freely be themselves.
@henniandreasson144911 ай бұрын
Honestly, as a gay girl who tries my best at overcoming biphobia, most of it boils down to fear. If a bi girl and I was dating, she could leave me and be both happy and validated by society for confirming to the hetero norm, however I could never do the same without being extremely unhappy. And that scares the shit out of me.
@maximusasauluk735911 ай бұрын
This is the same fear for gay men, it's probably worse actually because statistically women identify as bi much more often than men but biologically this makes no sense. This is because a much larger share of bi men are in denial, unaware or down low, while women tend to be more comfortable or accepted. For men, there's a bigger pressure to conform, so the risk of a "bi man leaving a gay man for a woman" or a bi man not taking a relationship with another man seriously is higher. Still, I think avoiding bi men in dating is stupid and ironically (for the nature of the community) discriminatory. The reality is not homogenous, there are bad bi men as there are bad gay men, however we can't ignore the fact that this "women attraction" or choice to lead a heteronormative life just doesn't exist with gay men like it does fir bi men, so I can't help but be cautious when dating them. Doesn't help that the first relationship I was in, was with a bi man and he completely used me for his own secret sexual exploration.

@@andrew20146 that’s a good point. I'm a trans person and I have dated tons of bi guys, what the person on the video says it's true, many MANY bisexuals will, at the end, choose what's easier for them and what's expected from them: basically to have a straight relationship, but they will enjoy the queer part of their identity in the sex part and treat it more like a kink. Speaking from personal experience, I think part of the problem might be guys that are heteroflexible being misidentified (or mislabeling themselves) as bisexual. From the outside, it’s difficult to differentiate between guys who just want to get their rocks off and guys who are actually open to romance and a committed relationship. Moreover, I think some men who swing both ways may feel that it is simpler to seek out long-term partners in women, especially if they’re not out. Pressures from family and a still predominantly heteronormative society about what is verboten regarding relationships and marriage does not help either. Just a thought.
@janjr16511 ай бұрын
It’s a useless thought. Bi men know exactly who they are, and what they’re doing - they just choose to straddle the fence so that they can play around and not have to commit to any one identity. They get a kick out of playing with other people’s feelings, and that’s not okay.
@tristanmacmahons980311 ай бұрын
Bisexuality is a spectrum. If you have a preference for women you'll get your rocks off with men, but seek romance with women. If you have a preference for men, you'll miss 😻, but probably date a guy. If you're somewhere in the middle you can have a choice. Society is both hetro and homo normative. Being bisexual isn't quite accepted or even well understood. Common thoughts: _A bisexual exploring their sexuality is just "using gays/lesbians for sex", he/she might actually be hetro/homo sexual and leave me for the other gender. I'm not homo/hetro phobic but i'm grossed by the idea of a partner having sex with the same/different gender._

This Andy/Felicity bashing isn't nice.... It sounds like their experience isn't being acknowledged. Yeah the mustard or mayo ones can take their pick and chill while the one or the other ones will have to just roll with whatever they are in the mood for?!? That doesn't sound fair...

I think the point is not stereotyping emotional unavailability or promiscuouity as a trait or all bisexuals when it's better described as a trait of all men 😂
@andrewmcmanus9023 Жыл бұрын
Michael's great at getting multiple sides of a complex issue into one short video, but this missed the mark. Apparently Andy/Felicity's whole problem is just being a "crazy homo", even though his bi ex actively participates in heterosexuality? Like, you know, 90% of the population?
@andrewmcmanus902311 ай бұрын
Very, very true. And yet these comments are also full of people crying biphobia. Michael's great at making videos that hit all sides of a situation in under 3 minutes ❤

This was so nice to bies.... maybe too nice I'm joking, this was kind of refreshing, but I'm sure some people are not going to like that definition of Bisexual (but who cares really). I know Bies get a lot of stuff for complicated relationships, but many relationships don't work out in general. Some bi people are more into women and say they are really wanting maybe a friends with benefits relationship... but some gay guys are like that too and are 100% into guys so I don't know. I definitely believe gays when they say people want to be DL about it because of society, our society is far from perfect on LGBTQ issues, we're lying to ourselves to say otherwise, but from me personally I like the emotional investment. (Even though I have my deviant fantasy dreams of maybe having a thruple or maybe 4-person couple)

As a bi man myself, I have dated a lot of gay men. It's a turn off when the occasional biphobe enters my DMs, because his projected issues with homophobia is not my fault. I do love the pretzel analogy. Thank you for capturing the projection, Mike. Also, if being bi was actually privileged, there wouldn't be biphobia at all.
@rachadlendar491811 ай бұрын
Yall are so corny, of course no one is truly "privileged" if we just solely focus on the negatives, but the reality is that bi men benefit from heteromantive relationships whether you deny it or not

I think this one doesn't "show multiple sides" in the way his videos often do. Of course the points michael raises are valid, but comp het is a thing and it isnt biphobic to notice an overlap between bisexuality and comp het.
