I think you mean "Replace". If memory serves correct they had issues when refloating getting the original valves to shut. Which is why they plugged the line at the filter housing. I do pipe (storm, water, sewer) for a living and one thing I can tell you is, there's no guarantee any valve will open or close. Especially one that's been in use for a long time and not regularly used.

I’m in the maritime industry and I share many commenters concerns about your interior. The wood will not ‘come back’. If you want any type of resale value on a boat of this quality do it right and replace wood. I’m even more concerned if your boat has wood stringers and bulkheads. Any where screws have penetrated the fiberglass/wood stringers or bulkheads for purpose of attaching hoses, clamps, etc the wood wicks the water and it’s trapped by the overlay of fiberglass and no amount of dehumidifying will suck the water out. Now for the coup de grace, two things kill boats, water ingress or fire. Wire looms on a sunken boats, old boats tend to corrode which causes electrical resistance, which manifest itself as heat. Melting wires, shorts in wire looms, possible fire. Now parting thought, while I admire your work and its entertainment value what happens when you try to sell your boat? You have a well documented video series of cool engine rebuilds and DIY ‘fixes’ and a sinking. Try to get that past a marine surveyor without proper marine rebuild documentation……not gonna happen. When I 1st saw the sunk boat, that take it out of the water and remove the engines and make it into a Tiny House as it needs way too much work to keep it in a wet environment, it needs a full rewiring at the very least.... I would not trust that boat as the toilet waste has gone throughout the whole cabin... Anything in the tank is now on the wood etc....

The plywood in your electrical panel doors is delaminating. Water intrusion is rotting the wood. The veneer on your wall panels is also delaminating -- water has intruded between the plywood backing and the veneer. Nicest solution would be to strip off the veneer and glue new wood veneer on, using a rich wood burl veneer. Amazed how much stuff survived the sinking.

Survived and good long term.operation are 2 entirely separate things. The wiring that was in the water is junk. It may work now, but it will corrode from the inside out and fail continually until it's replaced.

If you're serious about saving this boat, you need to haul out your boat to the ground, heat and air out by using industrial blowers to blow everywhere for 1 week straight (none stop) and dehumidifier. The longer you wait the bigger mold problems you'll get in between the walls of your boat. Been there done that.

I would replace thru-hulls with proper seacocks so you can close raw water flow for service, emergency, and storage. Also, the strainer you are using is a fine screen, designed for grey and fresh water systems. It's likely to cause trouble with clogging and not as resistant to cracking. Groco ARG strainers would be more appropriate.

This! I don't understand how we aren't corrected what sank the boat... You need a proper sea cock you can shut off at all through hull raw water intakes. Everytime I leave my boat in the Fall/Winter I close the seacock for my raw water washdown, the toilet, and the livewell. I have outboards so no intake for motors there.

My boat only has one through-hull raw water inlet. I never leave the boat with it open. My strainer is slightly above the waterline so no problem there.

@@joeburns91 Normally any below waterline hull penetration will have a seacock/valve. I never trust hoses since they've been known to fail even when clamped with two clamps. In this case they seem to have never turned them off and were unable to turn them off when they tried. I don't know if that was because of ice in them but the fact that they changed those hoses with water still coming in indicates that they haven't fixed that serious problem. They will have to pull the boat out of the water to change the valves safely. Mine is a simple 1 inch ball valve, about $20.

Both of the JVC radios have a 10 amp fuse in the back of them. The wiring harness covers the fuse when it is plugged in. You may just need to replace the fuse.

You should plan to treat this like a house that has been flooded. Take all of the inside woodwork out, treat for mold, and the rebuild the interior. Just trying to do a superficial 'drying' and paint over the interior will likely lead to a whole bunch of mold buildup inside, under and behind cabinets and walls.

The only acceptable choice is to try and salvage whats there. If it comes to a point where you cant use the boat because theres so much bad mold, THEN you can scrap it or tear it all out, at that point. But its a big $100,000+ loss of a perfectly good floating boat just having sank once and now brewing mold.

I’m a woodworker. Yep you can paint plastic. Clean it with rubbing alcohol. I recommend an adhesion promoter first then a good paint for plastic. The cabin doors need to be sanded lightly and stained. Any good clear finish will work - I like Deft. The sodden wood will likely need to be replaced I’ve never seen anything that saturated come back. I live about ten hours south of you - if you need help just holler.

Hey buddy John from Central Tx SeaTow again, be prepared for issues with v drive transmission. Once water gets inside them it “generally” trashes the clutches. We do salvages/recoveries on the regular and anytime we get a boat with v drives and water got inside it they’re just cores for new ones. You might get lucky, but dont get discouraged if they don’t come back. I’m actually really shocked at how well you’re getting this boat back.

A couple things coming from a boater: 1.) The blowers will fail again, go ahead and replace them. 2.) Make sure to add or fix your seacocks, a must, check the one running to your cruise air as well. 3.) Make sure you left access to the strainers and they aren't mounted too low. 4.) Need a two way backflow preventer as well. 5.) Not sure if you have addressed your main fuel system, I might have missed if you did. 6.) Clean the bilge and under bilge pumps. 7.) Not much to do with the flood but check your shaft seals.

Like others have said, through hulls. They should be on ANY fitting that is open to the water. Those screens can be repaired, although finding a replacement screen may be difficult. Ozone generator for the interior. DO NOT be in the space that the ozone gen is operating in and ensure to ventilate after it has been used prior to occupying the space. The wood is dunzo. It will come to pieces over time. I've done enough flood/water damage repair to know water is the worst damage to repair. You see what you think is no damage, then in six months, damage. Gel Coat may be an option. Love the content!

Chris just a thought, but you really need to scrap all that interior wood. No dehumidifier is every going to get it back to normal. Its not the side you can see, that will be the problem. It will be yhe back & layers you cant see or easily get to. Should really tear it all out & replace all the wood. The layers of laminate will mold & continue to seperate. Its not worth risking breathing mold & stuff. It's your boat & your life, so do what you want, but honestly read some of your comments from other people. They are telling you the same for a reason & some have even more info on what you should do. You absolutely need a seacock valve a.s.a.p on that boat! Love the video's regardles, take care brother!

A couple of quick suggestions guys. Double clamping is a necessity and you've got that down however, you need to reverse each second clamp so that hose is evenly pinched to fitting on both sides. You definitely need some readily accessible seacocks for those raw water intakes too.

As a Florida state certified mold Remediator and Assessor with 20 years in the water damage industry. All of those materials with the amount of water they took….. trashed. It’s not the outside of the material you’re worried about, it’s what’s inside now. Dehus will only do so much with that amount of moisture. I’d love to assist as much as possible.

As someone who has salvaged several boats in Alaska i recommend also that you have a set of keys for the boat hidden on board. It can save your boat if you get into a similar situation and the marina has knowledge of where they are. I have been able to prevent a total loss situation for 3 owners who were miles away but had keys onboard so we were able to run the boat aground to prevent the boat from sinking completely. You got lucky in that your boat was in fresh water in a river because if it was saltwater everything would be destroyed.

It's essentially laminate. Formica is just a brand. My company sells Wilsonart laminate and you can cut it to size and glue it back on. There are many different colors and designs to choose from, including custom designs. You've got the skill to do an easy fix like this. Good luck

Hey Chris , the paint is a melamine paint , but by the looks of the staining on the birdseye panels, that looks like real maple , but with out actually seeing it in person it’s difficult to tell , laminate usually won’t take on water. Staining like that? But double check with a local cabinet shop and see what it actually is and if it’s plastic laminate ( aka countertops material) Then scuff it and use the melamine paint 😎

You can leather wrap (upholster) the breaker panel cabinet and it’ll give it a brand new more modern look. Hard to do it in the galley because of the louvers but you can leave the louver part of it un-upholstered and it might look alright. Did it to my boat and it came out looking amazing. Did the entire ship except the galley though. Good luck

To remove the staining on wood, you first need to remove the clear coat off of it. Next, you make a solution of oxalic acid and water at a ratio of two tablespoons per quart of water. You then brush the solution onto the wood and let it fully dry. After it dries, wash it thoroughly to get the acid off of it. Once that has dried, you can sand it lightly and refinish it or apply another coat of oxalic acid solution if you still have dark spots. You want to apply it to the whole piece, not just the darkened areas. Oxalic acid is also called wood bleach.

For the painting of the walls and cabinets, use killz primer. Used it many times on Formica and veneer… krylon spray paint works better( quicker, smoother finish and more resilient) than rolling on a new paint over the killz.

Yes, you can sand and re-stain the venier for the interior, that would be better than any paint of vinyl wrap. I also agree you need a ball valve on your raw water intakes, just for another line of safety. As for the Holley screens, I'd send them in the fix them, they are fixable. I also agree with the ozone generator for the cabin, they are great. You guys are doing a great job. oh, you might have gremlins in the boat in the future if you don't replace all of the wiring, and then again, I've seen people get lucky. so good luck.

Hi guys love watching your videos. In regards to your bilge pumps i personally would mount 2 extra pumps slightly above the others so they aren't actually in the water. If in future it would leak they wouldn't have water in them frozen from the cold conditions and would therefore keep the boat afloat. Your boat should be plugged into shore power to keep batteries charged so you never have to worry about them going flat. Obviously i would also have an alarm wired in to let you know that those pumps are running so you have a warning that there is the possibility of a leak on the boat.

I think there might just be water between the layers of the screen. The LCD panel itself is probably hermetically sealed, but there are a few layers of polarizers and light diffusers that are basically plastic sheets, water would wick right in between them and be an absolute bear to get out without disassembling the screen itself.

Wrap the Formica. I work in banking and they just did all the old teller lines of the branches. The wrap looks just like wood. Instead of demolishing and installing new. They wrapped them. Came out solid.

You've done a good job so far with heating the interior and running a dehumidifier, but with warming temperatures your boat may be in danger of developing mold and/or mildew. Buy yourself an ozone generator and do a complete decontamination of the passenger compartment. -best wishes as always

I agree with @JRs-Garage about the panels being real wood veneer. It seems appropriate for a luxury yacht manufacturer to those materials. You can use the inside of the cabinet doors to try different remedies such as sanding/staining/finishing (even using a darker stain to hide discoloration). With wrapping or painting as plan B, you have nothing to lose in trying except your time. Talk to a cabinet shop about your options.

The gas detector sensors can be sensitive to water - it might not be the gauge itself, and the sensor is much cheaper to replace. I’ve had to replace mine when it got covered in water. Just a thought.

Yes B is for Boat, I think it would be nice to see a new project boat build from you, one that you can surf behind with your surf board ;) Too bad about the damage to the interior, but that will always be a thing, if Once the wood is black, it is difficult or impossible to remove it. What you could try for the ceiling is leather penetration paint to give it a newer shade. (or just leather paint that goes over it) from Angelus Brand. Could give a nice result. However, it is quite a hassle to paint the entire ceiling.

I used bulllseye 1-2-3 primer when I painted my laminate cabinets and an old Ikea bed. Pretty decent adhesion/chip resistance. Prime with that, then top coat with whatever.

Think it’s time to get a heated indoor garage for the winter time. Also I just had an idea. Build a DIY floating insulated greenhouse thing. I know the water itself will be cold but it’d definitely be warmer than being exposed to the cold air in the winter. Acrylic (water based) urethanes have very good bonding properties with or without a primer. They're at the point where an oil based paint or primer is needed plus oil/solvent based products are being phased out/outlawed in many states. But if that is an actual wood veneer, you might need a tannin blocking primer but if it's some composite or formica you should be fine.

Hi Chris, finishes for wood are very different to those for metal. Wood has a natural moisture content which varies from day to day depending on atmospheric conditions. Good wood finishes have to be flexible to cope with the expansion and contraction and they also need to be semi-permeable, to allow for the changes in moisture level. If the coating is not semi-permeable it is likely to blister or crack as moisture tries to leave the wood. Obviously what your wood interior went through was an extreme version of this, and the louver doors in the galley look like a result of the wrong type of finish being applied. One other point to mention is that fresh water is far more detrimental to wood that sea water, as fresh water will rot wood, the salt in sea water actually prevents rot.

When I restored my boat I used peel and stick textured wallpaper. Not only was it super easy/cheap to do , but gives the interior a modern look. At the least, I would do a focal wall in the same tone as the wall paint.

I just went through this with my boat. smoke/soot and water damage, we had to gut the cabin down to the fiberglass and replace everything with fabric, foam anything soft. $57k worth of damage, I can send you pics if you want

Chris repainting the old wood grain Formica is a great idea, pure white or ultra pale grey would look far more modern..

You could use specialist cabinet paint, it has a seperate additive that you mix in as a hardner. Fully cured in a week and pretty bullet proof. Or just vinyl wrap.
