Did I Sink My New Pavati Boat On Purpose For YouTube Views?

Hopefully this video helps everyone better understand what actually caused my new boat to sink. After a thorough inspection of the boat at Pavati headquarters, we found that the cheap rubber flip tab plug came loose at some point during the day but upon further inspection we found that the main rear bilge pump hose was not connected properly which happened while I was installing new batteries in the boat a few days before our trip. This was a complete oversight on my part by not making sure the bilge hose clamp was properly tightened.

His error was acceptable. As a seafarer myself, I can totally see how the main bilge pump hose may have fallen off due to random maintenance carelessness - I would say that is by far the biggest problem and in face of that, the plug is relatively meaningless. My only problem with Dave is that he ignored the bilge pump warnings. On old boats you can occasionally ignore warnings if they are a constant problem and its clearly faulty wiring (should fix though). But on this brand new modern boat, you have to look at these things immediately because they are generally not wrong. Verdict: critical captain error --> not on purpose

I mean someone did crash a 6-700,000 plane for views and got their pilots license permanently revoked. The same can happen here if the video of the sinking and recovery are evidence enough. I'm not saying he did, because this isn't something I am experienced with investigating, but the national parks service and a few other organizations may decide to suspend his license temporarily while an investigation goes on. I'm not going to say he did do it for views, but I'm also not saying he didn't. That is to be determined at a later date.

I’m just happy to see, that you have done very well and it enables you to do stuff, that blows my mind. It is very entertaining to follow. It took a few tries until I figured it out. LOL, They also make a Durolite, I think 12 feet was the biggest they made of those. I think it weighed around 100lbs. but the gunnels were 4 inches lower, I live on the ocean so I wanted higher gunnels. For everyone’s information the flip up “lever” type plugs are being used incorrectly! They need to be adjusted to properly fit your boats drain hole, hold the rubber part in your left hand & turn the lever clockwise with your right with the lever parallel (in line with the plug)this will expand the plug just like the screw type. Then you insert the plug into the drain hole & push the lever up! This has to take some force to push up the lever or it is toooo lose & needs to be adjusted more. Also if u have access to the drain hole from INSIDE the boat install the plug from the inside. It can NOT be kicked or knocked out into the water & if properly adjusted & installed the plug is very tight in the drain hole! If by some freak chance the plug is kicked out it falls into the boat & can simply be re-installed. Safe Boating!

Yea I came here to say this. I know it’s common for people to put plugs on the outside, but I’ve never understood why anyone would do this. It’s just to easy for someone to swim up to your boat at a sand bar and pull the plug or for a child to be playing and think it’s ok to unscrew the plug. My plug is always installed from inside the boat and is just part of my pre check before putting in water.

Around this discussion about drain plugs it´s hard to understand the problems about it. When I´m watching boating videos from U.S. the (forgotten) drain plug is a hot issue very often. I´m from europe an for me (like the most europeans) it´s common sense to use drain plugs which are screwed (into a threaded insert which is part of the hull). Nobody can loosen this without using tools. Why do you need drain plugs which are easy to remove. Our drain plugs are closed the hole season. Boats are covered to avoid rain water to collect inside the hull. They are only removed for inspection or to completely remove the last drop of water at the end of the season and put back after ending the maintenance. Pleas give me an idea why 1) do you need to remove them so frequently 2) why not using absolutely solid drain plugs which are hard to remove.

The outcome however had no silver lining. My father and older brother, nor the mother of the family that was with us made it. I love your videos and the work that you do. Anyone that thinks you of all people would do this for clicks is a complete ass. I admire your ambition and your content. I’ve been boating for 30 years and can see how this happens. I appreciate you making this video and explaining all of the details. The important thing to me is if you take your family out have good fitting, comfortable life jackets readily available. We don’t always wear life jackets but they are ready. Second is (and I never did this myself) would be if you have children with you develop a family plan on how to safely get free from the sinking vessel and what your plan would be in this event. Children should always be wearing their jackets regardless of what the adults do. It is amazing how many boating incidents can be prevented by just doing a thorough full check before hitting the ramp. I have seen wake board boats start sinking on ramps because they failed to even put the plug in, I have seen people try to power off their boat with trailer straps still attached, etc etc. As for it being faked or not - not really up to any of us to figure that out, that is up to the insurance companies and parks management who take care of the area to take care of.

I’ve just started watching Heavy D and his crews videos, a true newcomer to this channel. The little I’ve seen of all of this content has left a very positive impression with me of how real, decent and sincere all these guys are. You Tubers like these lads, who create great content, leave themselves exposed to the worlds idiots, anyone with a pulse should see that this was a couple of poor mistakes that led to a near disaster, thank God it didn’t. I rarely comment, but to have someone make a statement like this lad pulled a stunt for views, clearly displays to me, the level of true idiocy we have out there. I used to be a co-owner of a small marine service shop in upstate New York. Our shop was located very near a high tourism area. We used to sell about half a dozen replacement plugs every year because those stupid flip plugs would fall out of peoples boats while they were using them. Either the owners would fail to tighten them down (which you do by screwing them in, then locking them shut) or they would leave them in over the off-season and they would harden up, shrinking the rubber and loosening up, and in some cases, hang down past the bottom of the boat where the water pressure would then flip the plug open. People, learn from this mans mistake if you own a boat, buy the T-handle type he shows in this video. Also, don't leave them in over the off season and check them for proper operation before you use them.

He doesn't need to sink a boat for insurance $, nor would be put his loving family at risk for anything! As far as views, he makes countless epic videos doing things only he can pull off. On top of all that Dave is a good moral man with great values. It's embarrassing for anyone to think so low about him and says more about you than him. He's a great guy. Would it be possible to get maybe a couple videos on that? Definitely be interesting to see what they’re gonna do to the hull and just all the waterlogged electronics etc 3- as an avid watersports enthusiast myself, I’d love to see some more videos with you guys and the crew over at Pavati. Those boats are other worldly and out of reach for most of us weekend surfers. I’d love to see more of the build process of the aluminum boats and all the detail they put into these things. Sadly, there are some people in that social media game who happen to have children who actually would put their kids in danger...there are some skeezy people out there and the addiction to clout and the greed for more views more followers, more money, etc had a documented history of going to some people's heads and bringing the worst of their personalities and maybe some mental health issues to the forefront and leading those people to doing some truly insane and disgusting things. That being said, anyone who has followed this channel, followed these guys careers, or just paid enough attention to get a feel for the type of man Dave is, should not have any doubt in their mind that this was an accident. Of course as a viewer, nobody's truly getting to know any of these people we watch in social media in a personal level and you can only know what they show you. But over time, from seeing what these guys actually do, the good they do for others, the relationships they have with people who by all accounts are also good people, the generosity they've shown the insight into their character and seeing the sincere closeness they have with each other...there's no doubt that Dave is a solid dude who would never do something so stupid, destructive, and risky to his family.

What an intense situation! As a Dad I feel the stress that situation creates. You handled it like a champ A+ Dad moves.

We had a situation where our 2017 chevy silverado blew the motor at 38,600 miles and we ended up getting a motor replacement for free. When I made a post talking about how I was disappointed that the engine blew with that few miles, people acted like we drained the oil and staged it just to make them look bad and get free crap. Everyone is so quick to call BS, it's insane.

After watching this video it just made me have that much more respect for you, for explaining to the viewers what went down and being able to admit fault, most people today just can't man up like that. Respect homie.

Good lesson learned.. never dismiss alarms on a boat especially bilg alarms. Visually verify no water in compartments . Glad all are ok and nice recovery 🤘

Yep, you're continually getting bilge alarms...one NEEDS to do a physical inspection of the pump area. I personally would have at least 2. I consider that a critical factor on a boat. As well has keeping like 5 plugs on board

Lol when 100-200 miles out to sea every alarm is essential. high maintenance on everything too. i have had so many issues and almost died at sea.. my god you make sure everything is perfect. Also see boat fires because morons don't air out their bilge. fuel and oils drop in the bilge and fumes build up and once turn the ignition or other source of Electrical, They go Boom.

Having been to Powell on several occasions and knowing where the boat sank, that would have been the worst and un safest places to stage a sinking. Especially with kids on board.

Truly sad the people saying you did this for clicks or fraud. Anyone who watches your videos and sees how you care about people can tell you'd never intentionally put your family in a situation like that. Keep doing what you do and don't let the negative voice of some set you back. Glad everyone got out safely.
