Gavin Ashenden is a bit bonkers. I’ve heard him speak on several occasions. He has gone from High Anglican to a schismatic Anglican church and now is in the Roman Corporation. I wonder how his religiously reactionary views align with the current pope? Will Ashenden move again? If so, to where? Egyptian Coptic? They haven’t changed anything in 2000 years. On 20 July 2022, Bishop Barron 'went after' Pope Francis' completion of Humanae Vitae, 1968 on or just after 10 June 2021.This completion was of adding 'qualitatively equal to "Two inseparable aspects: union and procreation" of marriage. This completion is justified on the reference point of Mary keeping 'qualitative equality' at Lk 1:38 and Mt 1:24. Barron contradicted Pope Francis by asserting consecrated celibate marriage vowed to man in Christ is "a higher way of love" than consecrated male female marriage vowed to God.

But then I go to mass and nobody stops me at the threshold to ask, "have you repented?" That's what I mean by life being more complicated than "repent, then, and only then, you'll be welcomed in." The way some people talk about the need for "repentance" and "changing your life" makes me wonder if they noticed that the father of the prodigal son ran to meet him, embrace him, and shower him with all kinds of attentions and celebrations, without imposing a single pre-condition. He didn't stop him when he was within earshot to ask, "have you repented?" The wayward son did have a speech prepared for the occasion: "father, I've sinned against heaven and against you." He wasn't even given the chance to do his confession. He had also planned to end his speech with a humble sounding, "I don't deserve to be called your son any longer (no kidding, duh, or did he think that he could get again the inheritance that he had so irresponsibly and sinfully squandered), but take me as one of your hired hands." Of course, since the reasoning that brought him back home was, "how many day laborers at my father's house have plenty to eat, while here I am, craving the acorns destined to feed the hogs." Repentance...? Yeah, I guess you can call that repentance. Would that kind of interested repentance be enough for the gatekeepers of the grace of God?

Unfortunately, since the ‘70s too many of the clergy are themselves “marginalized”and more loyal to the :”reformers” than to the Holy Tradition. We are in this mess because beginning even during the Council the clergy and the nuns began to rebel against their disciples. The year 1968 was an occasion for either resigned commissions in the “ARMY of Christ: or a revolt of the colonels verses the generals, The pope himself was caught between a rock and a hard place. Short of like Louis VI after 1789. His authority was much diminished. and he became a dry martyr, holding down the fort, waiting for the relief troops that came,. That of course in the person of the much loved but much hated John Paul II and his right arm, Joseph Ratzinger. River was there a Rotweiller with such a gentle bite. Unable to do what was needed, measures those that followed the Council of Trent. They went to the people although with mixed results. It did not help that they pope was almost assassinated, But the Catechism was no small matter and remains a powerful barrier against the Modernists, nor are the numerous John Paul II priests, nor the many Evangelicals, who seeing the the folly of liberal Protestantism , come over to Rome. New media also was a help. Mother Angelica and her EWTN, but especially here, and the Register have served the Church in America Well, as have the many priests and laity in the Pro-life Movement. On the other hand, the Lavender Mafia was by no means defeated and with its fantastically fast growth in the secular world, has now made great strides in undermining the True Faith. When Benedict XVI was elected, he may have been spiritually ready to carry on the fight, but it seems that his allies were not strong enough to buttress the walls of the fortress. The German bishops made no secret of their hatred of him, and many of the American bishops were equivocators/lierals. The Holy Father was always frail and finally resigned to to shock of Catholics and to the glee of the liberals, So we get Francis, at best an equivocator.

Bishop Barron is by far the best candidate for the next pope. He has carefully followed all his obligations - including the duty of obedience to the Pope. The SSPX connected goofballs constantly try to slander him on the internet, and falsely accuse him of things. But he responds in kindness and accuracy to them. Barron knows there is something deeply wrong with Francis, but continues to give him the benefit of the doubt in all things. Charity is his rule.

I remember seeing a KZbin video featuring the UMC voting on same sex marriage. It was a conference held in Tampa. There was an older woman who was very upset that the vote had not gone her way. I love how in Proust’s Swann’s Way, the beginning of his masterwork on the endless edifice of memory and the ever-busy activity of creating and elaborating on sensual-needs-met identities as meaning-hooks we cling to when sneaking ever so quietly, yet glamorously, over the endless Abyss of the actual meaninglessness of our lives after the death of a transcendent, Utterly Other God. He begins this exploration with an image of a church at the center of a town called Combray, making clear this church is the centripetal force unifying the entire village, and that once a person steps outside this unifying force, chaos ensues inside inescapable “trouble and desire, trouble and desire”. Zen Buddhists find a way out of this chaos through meditation (what priests at my Parish insist we should enter to find an answer, and just forget all that impossible “going out” stuff generated by naïve priests and lay theologians down through the Ages); and although Proust didn’t find a way out, not exactly, he did perfect an aesthetic sensibility of the highest order with sheer creative power, which enabled him to stand outside the matrix I’m certain is orchestrated entirely by Satan. This is Proust territory, where he mined every sensual and aesthetic delusion we now cling to in seeking surface-sensual-aesthetic-and-intellectual needs gratification to establish meaning in our lives after the death of God in our understanding through a daily process of manufacturing (and adding different dimensions to) our envisioned false Christs we mostly academically conjure to make Christ’s vision more amenable to our personal visons of how self is to be actualized, not how God envisions that phenomenon, inside actions determined by our willful ways, not the Father’s Willed Way in Christ-an error in movement that is inevitable when we exit our living in Christ (Kingdom of God on Earth) through the delights-physical, intellectual and spiritual-of our alchemical identity-forming-power we access inside a mental warehouse of seeming unlimited aspects of personality-construction data we can draw from, most especially sexual in nature, a Cartesian realm of high abstraction we worship after bowing to Baal dressed in university professor and administrative garb, severed in an imagined transcendence from the concrete world, sometimes becoming totally out of alignment with the Temple of God inside, the Castle our souls occupy night and day, resting in severance from our willed ways, where our true selves fade from memory, that unique image and likeness of God, in our rabid pursuit of a materialistic answer to life (the Sexual Revolution the most powerful attempt in history); and what could be a more materialistic escape from Camus’ Absurd than sexual license, where ecstaticized flesh lifts us out of our reflections on the multi-faceted Abyss that looms infinitely at our feet, what we forever seek to escape from? This is revealed in the comedian’s joke where he lists the three diseases he prefers to die from: sexual addiction, alcoholism and the solipsistic heights of narcissism. That’s funny in a cosmic way, exactly what Proust explored to perfection. I went on a tat too long, but I want to make perfectly clear a new image of Parish Life required for lay formation and the new evangelization to unfold, a Parish capable of sustaining us parishioners in a centripetal force called the Mystical Body of Christ Made Visible, a radical love for one another in Parish Life made manifest is the only way possible for an entire Parish to coalesce as the Body of Christ Made Visible, through a restored Assembly Life, what has been extinct for centuries. In establishing a new model for Parish Life that defies satanic movements into radical autonomy, the present norm for pastors, the first mode to go is the notion a Pastor must be in control of deciding what the expenditures will be with no accountability to parishioners. Having an “economic committee” won’t solve this problem in the end, for a Pastor can too easily sway a committee, what happens all the time, for it is the Pastor who decides who will sit on any committee, ensuring his way or the highway as the only available choice. And the small “gatherings” in designated “ministries” I’ve seen formed by Pastors, what they call “gatherings of the faithful into small parish communities”, is in fact the most powerful dynamic pastors use to justify a refusal to truly gather (assemble) the laity, what disturbs Pope Francis more than any other dynamic, the result of an entrenched clerical elitism in relation to laity, determined to keep their holy selves distant from corrupt and/or ignorant laity as best they can, hiding out in their rectories or condos or any other place distant from laity. Here’s a clerical explanation: “I’ve designed small groups open to all parishioners, and they are welcome to join any of those groups and offer their input and service, no parishioner being tuned away, and their input is relayed to me by group leaders. That’s the system in place, and it works. This ‘Assembly’ you’re talking about is superfluous. The real reason we don’t have full participation in Parish Life is because the vast numbers of laity will not sign up for Parish ministries-that’s the perennial problem, the only real problem, having nothing to do with Assembly Life. It has everything to do with the Sloth of Laity, what we clerics are oppressed with, a persistent adamancy from lay persons who insist on residing in their intractable ignorance. What else can we do other than become Grand Inquisitors, agreeing to care for them in their willed ignorance in any way we can?” Of course, the Pastor is still the only person in the Parish uniquely gifted with the power of governance, bestowed on him at ordination from God to empower him to sustain an Assembly Life, what only an ordained cleric can do, a gathering unlike anything us postmodernists could even imagine, and why only an ordained priest is powerful enough to sustain the loving unity required to Assemble, and why no lay person is capable of this governance, and why I have persisted in this mission for 36 years looking for one pastor, all it takes to restore a model of Assembly Life that can be replicated at every parish in Christendom; but over 36 years I couldn’t find a single priest willing because of a commitment to radical autonomy, and yet I kept pleading with clerics endlessly all the way to the Vatican, with not a single cleric interested in even responding to my concern other than Avery Cardinal Dulles, who affirmed my mission before heading out to the room Jesus prepared for him in total freedom. Outside my encounter with this saintly Cardinal, I experienced nothing but a rigid steel band of clerical camaraderie that locks laity out, impenetrable all the way to the top. Just look at how the final decision in everything involving Parish Life is made by the pastor with no lay input at all, other than by those the pastor selects and is confident will parrot any decision-making-process he decides to implement, and it always ends with the pastor deciding what’s in his best interest as a radically autonomous soul who finds true communion (Assembly Life) as anathema as secularists who are equally determined to be radically autonomous. And so it becomes clear: only Assembly Life will make possible a true eucharistic communion, where the Body of Christ becomes manifest, visible to all, including guests we invite and who will be blown away, all of us becoming in physical fact the Body of Christ, joining together in total discernment the ways to journey in our lay missions that can only manifest at Assemblies, what Parish is: a place to commune absolutely with our Lord and each other in eucharistic celebration before we join in open communion where all get to speak and witness to each other, a witnessing that had died with the death of Assembly Life. And the death of witnessing is the absence of life within the Church.

This entire synod seems to look through the telescope through the wrong end. Jesus said to go out and preach, not to go out and listen. Yes, Jesus listened to people, but *they* went away changed, not Jesus. When the rich young man walked away, Jesus respected him enough to let him go; He didn’t run after him with empty promises of “accompaniment.” We’re supposed to subordinate the flesh to the Spirit, but the synodalists seem to want to subordinate the Spirit to the flesh.

I understand and appreciate what you are saying. It really is about a relationship with Christ. However, I am someone who deals with gender dissonance and same sex attraction. I have chosen to accept what the church teaches about me. I also have a child who is trans who has made a very different choice. I pray for this child and share the love of Christ any way I can. I do not think terms like "Alphabet people" are very helpful and can cause alienation. The catechism also calls us to treat those who deal with these things with "respect, compassion, and sensitivity." There are many ways someone can be "marginalized." I am autistic, divorced, and as I said before, deal with gender dissonance and same sex attraction. But most of all, I am Catholic in relationship with Christ. I do not always feel like I can open about these things in order to get support to live out my relationship with Christ. I am thankful for organizations like Courage International and Eden Invitation which do provide support for those you call "Alphabet people" to live out their Catholic faith in accordance to the Church's teachings.

I have been fairly critical of this Bishop in the past few years. Now, I’m half on board with this shepherd. I’ll be 100% when he learns and prays the Traditional Latin Mass exclusively. Prayer. Yes. That IS the answer. The ONLY answer. Which begs a question: How do we pray all the time? That would be the ONLY ground of absolute stability, even when suffering 24/7 from a deep darkness throughout one’s adult life, what most would crumble into a severely disabling depression from. But a woman did suffer that deep darkness 24/7 who prayed all the time in HOW SHE LIVED HER LIFE, not found solely in uttering words of prayer (what St. Teresa of Lisieux first instructed us on-The Little Way, Prayer in Motion, Living the Prayer): St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. And then there is the film by Liliana Cavani, Francesco, where she refused to polish St. Francis into an acceptable presence for our pious eyes, but instead reveals step by step how a human being enters into praying all the time, Living a Prayer, a piecemeal process that one should never bother oneself with how long it will take before one arrives where Teresa and Francis arrived at. The only focus required is in doing the Father’s will in every moment in opposition to our own pious, willful ways that help us best in regarding ourselves with high self-esteem, Satan’s Way, where our Lord and our Father’s will both disappear. And Pope Francis understands this better than any Pope during my 76 years, how necessary it is to restore Jesus’ version of what the Church’s Christian Brotherhood actually is, how Jesus intended it, and what was dismantled many hundreds of years ago by the clerical class in its decision to sever the entire Laity from the Church’s discernment process, which called for Laity to be severed from the Christian Brotherhood itself, made evident in saintly Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger’s concise 1961, 92 page book, The Meaning of Christian Brotherhood, where he makes clear the entire clerical class CHOSE to severe itself from the Laity by declaring the Church’s Eucharistic Christian Brotherhood null and void for Laity, that the Brotherhood would from now on consist only of clerics, Laity denied any part in the Church’s discernment process, where the sinister clerical class as we know it today was first formed (its sinister essence made clear in how this Brotherhood protected its own, those priests in service to Baal, over the protection of the lives of the innocent ones and their parents and extended family members, an evil indifference having its origin in the clerical class declaring Laity invisible). Yes, those men were more precious to every member of the clerical class than the little children sacrificed on Baal’s Altar. THAT’S the sinister sickness of this clerical comarderie that fully suppressd the missions of Laity for hundreds of years, preventing them from arriving in sainthood by fulfilling the missions assigned to them. But our Pastors kept convvimciomg us Laity to bury our talents in our back yards and wait on our Lord’s return. THAT IS THE TRAGEDY caused by the Cancellation of Lay Missons, what only Pope Francis is addressing. We must be stalwart in not only praying words for our Holy Father, but also LIVING A PRAYER for him by olenly supporting his mission, the most vital mission today and for the rest of this millenium. Pope Francis is our Prophetic Pope for this new millennium. Better start paying attention if you love the Church and her Mission. He is in his own way with his Synod on Synodality fighting a lonely battle to rid the Church of the infestation of a sinister clerical camaraderie that insists on keeping Laity locked out. Think about it: if Laity had been allowed to participate in the discernment process at every Parish regarding priests sexually molesting Laity’s children, no way would those Laity have approved the clerical desire to protect those men as a priority over protecting the innocent ones by transferring their brothers, doing whatever it took to protect them and their assigned missions from Baal.

Wasted if one’s orientation is that of “the faith once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude v. 3); a mere foot in the door to those of a more (shall we say) heterodox point of view. The most honest prayer I can muster for the current pontiff is that God will open his eyes before He closes them and that meanwhile, Francis will do as little damage as possible. I turned 70 this past August and have reconciled myself to the idea that I’ll probably never live long enough to see the current mess cleaned up, but that hardly matters. It’s God’s Church, not mine, nor that of whoever happens to occupy Peter’s Chair.
