A reflection on a strange farewell - This segment deals with the conclusion to the recent 'special called' Florida Conference, at which they said goodbye to another 74 local churches. The bishop had some choice words for people who 'did not leave in peace.' What could this mean?

I think that those of us that disaffiliated from the UMC are not mad or angry nor attacking those churches that decided not to disaffiliate from the UMC, we are praying for those that did not disaffiliate because they are going to need it following a false doctrine.

Bishop Berlin’s goodbye was a back door “curse upon your heads” and “you know who you are.” He seems to be a part of the narcissistic bishop’s club. Oh well. The Lord will deal with him and those who have joined in his cause in the same manner that he has prescribed to that “very small segment” who he called out.

To all of you, churches and members, who have left the denomination I say this to you. Praise God! My church wasn't so blessed thanks to the NIC. I would not consider 25% who have left a very small number. This bishop is just a part of the "brood of vipers". And we all know what happened to them.

The new diocese has grown as Anglican Church in North (America (ACNA) We have close Episcopal friends (clergy and laity) who stayed to fight from within but their discomfort increases. You may note that the Church of England also currently embroiled in identical heresy. We must stand strong , to not do so is against our religion!! NO ONE was "forced to staY". All have legs and can walk away as conscience clearly dictates. If you love building more than God and righteousness, you call down condemnation on your own heads. If you choose to stay in Sodom, you burn. Leave with only your bare skins if you must, but leave. You could have cast out the wolves for 50 years and now you are shocked that the wolves you clutched to your chests as precious have bitten you. SMH

Jeffrey, I'm inclined to agree that addressing dysfunction is preferable to ignoring it, particularly as it applies to the public actions and speech of leaders. We just have to be careful that we don't reinforce own tribal bitterness as we highlight the bitterness of the other tribe.

It is way past time to act with decision. Bitterness is due here - on both sides. This war was last by laziness and false kindness of the "faithful" traditionalists who for 50 years refused steadfastly to throw out the plain evil among them and now cry that that evil bit them. SMH Ask yourselves how you allow an entire council of bishops to go evil in your midst. These were YOUR employees. YOU are to blame FAR MORE THAN THEM.

@@johnbreitmeier3268 Everything else you said is true and deserves deep examination and reflection, but bitterness is the opposite of grace and tribalism is a worldly concept of identity that the evil one uses to organize revolt. The only identity that matters is that we are each made in the image of God, and as we call out sin we must do so in an aspirational way that motivates people to turn toward Christian perfection.

@@hunker1982 Bubba, you missed the boat, Your false"grace" just left wolves eat half the sheep. Not acceptable. 1) Bitterness is NOT the opposite of grace. You just made that up. You should be feeling a bitter sense of loss over this debacle. I am and I left this sorry UMC mess 50 years ago when it was already apparent that the leadership was mostly wolves. . It is that feeling that MIGHT keep you from doing this again in the GMC where a bunch of the liberal PLANTS FOLLOWED YOU. 2) There ARE 2 tribes here: Actual Christians who aspire to obey God and the POSERS who think that THEY are god and can make up their own rules. One belongs and one does not. It is that simple. In the rare case where you actually cannot tell the weeds from the wheat, err on the side of grace, but you allowed the weeds to RUN the farm. In this case, if you all cannot tell the difference get some help that has the discernment and can. Unless and until you all recognize exactly how you fouled up, you will swiftly do this again in the GMC. I already see that you took a bunch of women pastors and bishops with you. Women pastors are just as prohibited by scripture as gay pastors, only even more explicitly. How do you think the rot got in the church? If you do not follow the rules as to gender and leadership, why should anyone follow any of the rules? You have lived under the guidance of wolves for 50 years. That has seared your consciences and warped your brains.

I guess it is human nature to want to believe the people on your side of an issue, and that is exactly what the Bishop is feeding with his accusations without support; the folks who want to stay get validation that their movement has been wronged, regardless of whether there is a scintilla of evidence to back it up. I witnessed in my own church the announcement of the North Georgia Conference disaffiliation being shut down by the bishop as a result of widespread disinformation--as if it were pure fact--with no reflection of whether what the bishop said had any truth.

Having watched some of the contentious Special Sessions, it does appear that a lot of the left in the UMC is very sensitive and taking disaffiliation personally. I expect the Bishops allowing the churches to depart are under a lot of pressure from the activists that are remaining to speak out against the departures. One explanation of the Bishop's actions which were clearly over the top and non-[productive was the throwing of red meat to the activists. Yet another example of dysfunction and why two groups with opposing beliefs should not be in the same denomination.

I have been watching Tom Berlin over the past few years as he has tried to persuade congregants to the liberal side in his adopted presentation of the four categories of traditionalist vs compatibilist, doing so while he was in a clergy position in VA. I have heard young pastors on a Western NC UMC Podcast concurring with him all the while being drawn by his, what I believe, a deceptively calm, inviting demeanor. I believe I saw in your clip of his parting remarks that they, the UMC, were leaving the disaffiliating churches, rather than the disaffiliating churches leaving the UMC. ((Another attempt at deception?) My opinion is that he is representative of a sore loser, one, in this case, who thought he could persuade others to follow him, but failed in that quest and now he is angry about the outcome. But has that not been the general case across the breadth of the UMC in this process of disaffiliations? Lastly, a prayer for you and your family that each are blessed by our Jehovah Rapha with prompt, full recoveries from that which now affects the health of your family. May God continue to bless you in your various ministries.

Could Bishop Berlin also be referring to that "sliver of people who know who they are" as also being or including those on the very far left of the UMC who have not been very genuine in their "grace filled" words of "let's get along?" Could he not be referring to the "hidden ulterior motives" of both the "extreme right and left fringes" ("both ends working vigorously against the middle") of the Methodist Church for their OWN much more - at least in their own steadfast immovable minds - desired ends? Isaiah 53:6 NKJV All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord [a]has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. I think about this, prayed over this on many occasions ... was anyone really all that fired interested in actually, genuinely, doing the hardcore work as outlined by Paul in Philippians Chapter 2:1-17 NKJV Philippians 2:1-17 New King James Version Unity Through Humility 2 Therefore if there is any [a]consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. The Humbled and Exalted Christ 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it [b]robbery to be equal with God, 7 but [c]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Light Bearers 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. 14 Do all things without [d]complaining and disputing,[e] 15 that you may become blameless and [f]harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. 17 Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. Overall, did either side or both sides genuinely, sacrificially, work towards and or want the unity Paul described in his letter? Or did they just do the all too human thing and get too tired and too impatient with the other and not patient enough with God?

This whole thing , being fought in the public arena for everyone to see, has largely been a struggle to control the narrative . People like this bishop, and he gives plenty of evidence for it in his GC speech, want to create the narrative that only ignorant homophobes would leave the UMC. After all, who but such people could possibly want to leave such a perfect genuinely Christian organization ?? 🙄 Jeff, you said you were surprised some by his reaction. And here am I , a person more familiar with clinical pathological narcissism, thinking ( glancing at my watch) “ this response is right on schedule.” Gaslighting is defense mechanism #1 for those narcissistic enough to want to be UMC bishops. I only heard of him for the first time in 2019, but he angled himself for the episcopacy pretty visibly and got it. He has been able to do the dance of sounding reasonable while advancing far leftism much better than most of the bishops. I have wanted to believe he has more integrity than most of them. When he has responded to emails I have sent in the past, that says to me that he isn't as secretive as the rest of them. I wish I had a better read on the guy. Lonnie Brooks (a guy I interviewed a few months ago) though not a bishop, does agree with many of the stances of the institution of the UMC. Yet he also has a sense of fairness and integrity. I still want to allow for the possibility that such a person might be able to become bishop in the UMC. I think such a person could be really beneficial for everyone. I wanted to believe that Berlin was maybe of such character. I hope this speech as a bug and not a feature of his career.

Many people on both sides of this think one side is bad and the other side is good. This is why the leadership of both sides are in a bad situation. Any comment they make about the other side will be used as fodder against the other. Both sides are throwing stones and Satan is winning. We all need to worship God, do his works, and move on. I'm so sad for you. I was in a meeting with Jay Therrell in 2002 where he made outrage claims about what a new Bishop and DS would do to our churches despite written agreements AND outright lied about Florida law in the matter of contracts our Bishop had made with the churches re: leadership (and the Florida judge so ruled). Confronted later, Mr. Therrell (claiming to be an attorney) seemed to feel whatever lies were told were to help save his churches were OK and convinced other actual clergy to hide truth if they would not lie. In our church meetings, questions were disallowed. To this day, 80% of our former church believes that the Bishop was going to send us a gay pastor. Nevermind that Christ neither LIED to anyone NOR spoke ANY words about same sex relationships. I voted in the Zoom seperation meeting; I heard Bishop Berlin's most gracious comments. I'm so sad for you.

@plainspokenpod 6 ай бұрын
I'm not sure how your words necessarily correct what I have offered here. If Mr. Therrell did indeed lie, that needs to be substantiated, exposed, and circulated. He sits in a position of authority today and will continue to have influence far into the future unless that work is done. If Berlin had personal knowledge of such lying and chose not to substantiate it, that seems a pretty hateful thing to my mind. Now, if the substance of the lying is that he spoke confidently about the future potential for gay clergy being appointed to churches that don't want them, that's not really lying. It is a real possibility. But if he reported things being said or done that never actually happened, then that's a real problem. I acknowledged in this segment that much of what Berlin had to say was gracious and in good taste. Even so, he also said some things that I still believe were inappropriate and unhelpful. I don't read anything in your comment here that really engage the substance of what I had to say here. I wouldn't be surprised to learn if you hadn't actually watched at all.

Praise the Lord for His coming in and breaking up the folly that religion... ALL RELIGION... is... Hallelujah! Romans 11:36.... "Because out from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen." This "...all things..." - transliterated from the Greek as "...pas..." - is indicative of all, any, every, the whole... Meaning, nothing is left out... There is nothing that isn't "...out from Him and through Him and to Him..."... Including the breaking up of yet another folly denomination within the folly religion of Christianity. And it's so sad to see that someone like the person in the video (it seems his name is Jeffery) just doesn't get this reality. Here he is speaking about the lack in the so-called titled "...bishop...", Berlin - and don't get me wrong, Berlin certainly lacks - even as he, Jeffery, himself is short/lacking in understanding... Exposed in his holding to and promoting one of the folly denominational religions within Christianity. The blind leading the blind. Revelation 18:1-8... "After these things I saw another Angel coming down out of heaven, having great authority; and the earth was illumined with His glory. . . . And He cried with a strong voice, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the Great! And she has become a dwelling place of demons and a hold of every unclean spirit and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird; . . . For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the fury of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich by the power of her luxury. . . . And I heard another voice out of heaven, saying, Come out of her, My people, that you do not participate in her sins and that you do not receive her plagues; . . . For her sins have accumulated up to heaven, and God has remembered her unrighteousnesses. . . . Pay her back even as she has paid, and double to her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double to her. . . . As much as she has glorified herself and lived luxuriously, as much torment and sorrow give to her; for she says in her heart, I sit a queen, and I am not a widow, and I shall by no means see sorrow. . . . Therefore in one day her plagues will come, death and sorrow and famine, and she will be utterly burned with fire; for the Lord God who judges her is strong." When are born-again of God believers in Christ Jesus going to heed the above call? Again... "...Come out of her, My people,...". Not many people understand that the call to "...Come..." is emphatically declaring the absolutely vital need to depart, and even escape something... And this is pretty much repeated in the "...out of..." phrase... It's like saying, "...OUT... GET OUT OF HER, MY PEOPLE...". Just as spoken in the following verse... Isa. 52:11... "Depart! Depart! Go out from there! Do not touch any unclean thing! Go out from the midst of her! Cleanse yourselves, you who bear the vessels of Jehovah!" Unfortunately, most who have read "...Come out of her, My people...", understand it as a kind of loving, touchy-feely emotional call by the Lord to His people to come to something better. But it's not... It is an emphatic declaration by the Lord to His people to immediately, and with a desperate vigor, remove ourselves from both religious Babylon and material Babylon... Because of the imminent danger that staying within it will cause us to suffer. It is the God of all creation, Jehovah, who has caused this ruction to take place within this denomination (and others as well)... Because God hates the human-contrived religious efforts that only end up developing and promoting human vanity... Which is then expressed in the divisiveness of religious denominations. "...Wesleyan...", "...Methodist..." (United or whatever)... Where is just the plain ol' glorious of person Christ Jesus? Jeffery spends almost fifteen minutes talking about the foolishness of men holding to their fallen flesh... And not one second to the praise and glory of God that is expressed in the Lord Jesus Christ. How truly sad. Again... "...Come out of her, My people...". Amen.

How ironic that I was just reading about and watching a KZbin video about all the people killed by the RCC ….and that was just during the 15-16th centuries. But you keep on believing a man wearing a silly hat trumps the Bible 😉. Magic 🦄

This "plainspoken" guy is quite defensive here. He is no different from the accusations he hurls at Bishop Berlin. What a small commentator here

Strange. I’m liberal and fully support LGBTQ marriage . I find him to be fair generally and fair here in this video. In fact , I’ve thought several times how a split would be if every LGBTQ-supporter was like me and every conservative was like him there would be precious little of this back-biting nonsense . It just proves my thesis that this break-up has much more to do with toxic leadership like this bishop’s than it has to do with LGBTQ issues. Can you be specific or are you just smearing because of your own defensiveness ? 🤔
