Newly ordained Fr Daniel Delany moved from Paris in 1771 to teach rhetoric at St Omer's English College until 1777 when he returned to Ireland. While there he taught alongside the author of "Lives of the Saints" Alban Butler, and with his cousin Fr James Butler (no relation to Alban Butler) who eventually became Archbishop James Butler II of Cashel. The English College was just that: a college/high school meant for English Catholic boys: Catholic education was not allowed in England or Ireland. The school still stands today, and in 2016 I was able to visit it and the town of St Omer which is about 325kms to the north of Paris.
Despite several emails to the present-day school to visit and tour I did not receive a reply. On the day I was there the school was closed.
