The fact is she said clearly "I was there" and then reported what she witnessed. She now says she wasn't there and never witnessed any such thing. These were unverified stories she heard. Well she lied didn't she and for that if she isn't forced to resign as a bishop then this church is totally untrustworthy. No church can accept its leaders lying and ignore it.

Yes. And far from "apologizing profusely" (as characterized by Tablet Magazine article), her apology included weasel words that her speech came from "a passion for justice." I.e., truth doesn't matter so long as the emotional impact supports my side.

Slander of the highest order. An apology so inadequate that it further undermines her moral standing.

Thou shalt not lie (Moses) . The truth shall set you free (Jesus). Why don't you practice what you are supposed to preach,? This is immoral, intentional lies, slander and hate-mongering, as well as being irresponsible, despicable, disgusting and reprehensible. Why should this person be left in any position of authority in the church?

" ...the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts issued a statement on Aug. 9, 2018. In this statement, Rt. Reverend Harris admitted that she did not personally witness the events she described to her fellow bishops on July 13, 2018 but was passing on what she had heard from others during her trips to Israel. She does not say who these sources are, nor does she provide any other confirmatory details. In sum, nearly one month after Rt. Reverend Gayle Harris said “I was there” before recounting two terrible stories of Israeli wrong-doing, she has admitted that she did not see the events in question. In other words, she admitted wasn’t “there” even though she said she was." -CAMERA

Bearing false witness is a sin. She is a disgrace to Christians and should have her bishopry removed.

statement made by Bishop Harris. Harris offered this statement in part : “I now acknowledge that I reported stories which I had heard and unintentionally framed them as though I had personally witnessed the alleged events,” Harris said. “I sincerely apologize.” Unintentionally ? Doesn’t anyone proof these statements before they are released. This particular one boggles the mind. On its face it is insulting, dishonest and offensive . Better not to have issued an apology than to offer this incredibly stupid one. Speaking at an Episcopal Convention that convenes once every three years , one presupposes this was not an off the cuff comment. Did she have prepared notes to speak from ? It appears Bishop Harris was playing to an audience which would be sympathetic to her anti -Israel comments. The speech appears contrived to be in complete sync with the prevailing well publicized positions of the Episcopal Church. Unintentional ? I suppose we should be grateful she didn’t use the popular euphemism , “ I misspoke “ On second thought it might have been better. The politics involved are not the subject of my comments but rather the arrogance and deceitful nature of her speech . To compound the felony , she issues a statement which by its’ very wording is insulting to all. The Episcopal Church and Bishop Alan M. Gates would have been better served is her statement read as follows : “I now acknowledge that I reported stories which I had heard and framed them as though I had personally witnessed the alleged events, I did not . ” I’m sincerely sorry I got caught in this lie . “ Not smooth or slick but honest . Honesty doesn’t seem to be an operative component for those who engage in damage control. Too bad . This one is a doozy.
