@omminnoremac5 жыл бұрын
What he said was not so insane. As J says it was slightly lost in translation, but what he was getting at is that despite the now overwhelming rejection in the west that there are intrinsic differences between men and women, the proportion of men working in construction or proportion of women working in kindergartens suggests otherwise. Of course, this is often disregarded as a result of long standing social factors, but that to me seems unlikely. What was not so reasonable was his over generalisation. Obviously it's not the case that "women can't fix houses", it's just that MOST men naturally tend to take an interest in more mechanics based careers.
@AndreasDevig5 жыл бұрын
@@omminnoremac You speak as if all gender roles and social masculine/feminine conditioning has disappeared from the west. I don't think that's the case. I think it just looks that way to a lot of people, maybe because they view the world through the lens of the past, so they compare today's world with how things used to be, and say things like "The world believes in androgyny now" or "The whites are under attack." Even if it's true that men and women are inherently different, why does it matter so much? You can still do whatever you want with your life. And that would basically be my message. Not "Women are like this and men are like this." But rather "Stay true to yourself. Follow your dreams. You do you boo. You can do whatever you want."

However, it doesn’t mean you should throw away your previous culture either. I feel like you can continue your previous cultural practices as long as it doesn’t cause harm to the citizens of the host country. So you can eat, sing, and dance differently from the host country. Your home itself can represent your heritage, being filled with objects and traditions that remind you of home. However, when you are interacting with citizens of the host country, you should act accordingly with the manners of that country. Edit: Oh wow thank you everyone for the likes! Edit 2: and for those asking in the replies, I do condemn the treatment of women as objects. As a woman, I am especially disgusted since these men in the video seem to be using “culture” as an excuse. As mentioned above, you can do anything from your culture as long it does not harm anyone.
