The United Kingdom has an official state church, so it only makes sense that clerical leaders be included in the legislature right next to the judicial and secular leaders. It is such an important part of their polity that Sir Tony Blair did not officially convert to Catholicism until he was no longer prime minister. The PM plays a role in the governance of the Church of England, so Blair felt it necessary that the role be carried out by a member of the Church.

Isn't it time we stopped using the prefix 'Lord Bishop' for a female cleric? After all, in the Judiciary we have 'Lady Justice' used perfectly correctly. Female high court-judges are addressed as, 'My Lady.' We now have a Lady Chief Justice, do we not? I'm far from being an expert, but surely, 'I, Helen-Ann, Lady Bishop of Newcastle' is more appropriate and equal to her new colleagues who are all Ladies, Dames and Baronesses. Of course, such a move would need to be agreed to within the Church of England.........

I am not church of England I am a B artist ,but I think having these clergy in the Lords always make sure of the Christian voice in a secular society.

There are two countries in the world where clerics get automatic seats in the legislature. The UK is one, Iran is the other. Abolish this nonsense NOW.
