Wonderful recipe! *Cultural notes:* In Kannada, "bisi"= hot/गरम, "beLe" = daal/दाल, and "bath" = rice/चावल. Thus, "bisi beLe bath" literally means "गरमागरम दाल-चावल"! Although the word is written as "bath" in English, it is pronounced as "भात" only. In South India, t=ट (e.g. Bata= बाटा ) and th=त (e.g. Sitha= सीता).

One of my favourite too 😋 it's a yummy breakfast dish. I usually make bisibelebath powder with elaichi, javitri & jaiphal and add coconut & poppy seeds while cooking. One can also add coconut and poppy seeds while making the bisibelebath by making a fine paste of grated coconut, poppy seeds and cashews. 🤗 Thanks for sharing this yummy recipe. ❤

I appreciate your great work. But sorry have to say this is not classic bbb recipe. No bay leaves, no moggu or poppy seeds.. instead cloves and cardamom, slightly higher proportion of urad vis a vis channa dal. In fact black pepper is also not mandatory. Jaggery also is not added. No cooker. Overall, its a good take on bbb, but not bbb. ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ 🙏

In ur video, Rice looked overcooked and broken... you can cook rice and dal a bit less like for 2 whistles, then when you add all other ingredients and cook, it will end up perfectly cooked and not broken... one more tip, if the rice is perfectly cooked in cooker itself, dont add boiling water instead add room temp water, again the rice will not break by the end of cooking..

Everything is nicely explained, as per original recipe they don’t use any vegetables, only dhal & rice, the name aptly used. In Kolar district they use lot of ghee.

As someone who's staying in Karnataka from past 6 years, Bisibelebath has become my favourite. Here's an interesting fact for you: Bisi means heat. Bele means lentils. Bath means rice. The name literally translates to hot daal rice. From my experience talking to friends from different parts of Karnataka, everyone has a slightly different version of preparing the masala. However, never saw anyone adding Bay leaves and Cinnamon to it. Native Kannadigas, please comment on differences from your part of Karnataka.

chef sanjyot and everyone, whenever you cook dal or rice PLEASE SOAK THE RICE OR DAL IN WATER FOR ATLEAST 3 HOURS which avoids bloating in our stummy. solves all problems. so pour 3/4th of the container with water and let it set for 3 hours and pour the water to the wash basin, wash the rice again with fresh water and then cook it
