Stipe did not look good. He was flat footed and had almost no head movement. His corner was yelling at him to follow up his punches and to stay mobile. Jon beating this version of Stipe doesn't really prove how "great" he is.

I actually think Tom vs poatan makes sense. Don't get me wrong, I think Tom deserves the title shot, but in terms if timing, Tom's gonna have to play the waiting game and remain inactive to fight Jones. The timing fits for both fighters, winner fights Jones. Though it would be harsh on ankalaev, but he's probably happy to wait till dubai next year anyway

I don’t think it’s fair to say Stipe looked like shit, because he took a damn BEATING in that first round. I think everyone in that division would have liked the same after taking that much damage. i agree except i don't think he's trying to protect his accolades, those won't disappear bc of a loss in a new weight class at the end of his career (hell silva's still considered one of the goats even after losing the 185 title). you and jon make the correct point. all of this stuff ppl are saying about tom was said about sergei, then sergei got ko'd and it was 'well that's only bc tom is also amazing,' then he got schooled for 15min by volkov and it's like...well maybe he wasn't as good as we thought he was. if jon beats tom, he won't get credit for beating a young challenger, they'll just say 'oh, tom was never tested, he's not as good as we thought he was,' similar to when floyd beat canelo. that win won't matter unless tom goes on to have an incredible hw career. pereira, on the other hand, has beaten what, 5 champions across 2 weight classes in like...9 fights? along with his kickboxing resume. not to mention he's got a much bigger fan base. the only thing helping tom's name right now is this jones feud, which is unfortunate bc he's had a great run at hw the number of guys jon beat who were on tears is pretty damn long, and unless you were watching at the time, you don't remember how good texeira, gustafsson, dc, santos, reyes, hell even anthony smith were when going into their fights with jones
