@@luisvelito9230 actually in this performance he had healthy lungs still. 2 years after this in 1972 is when he contracted a severe pneumonia which diminished his lung capacity to 50 percent. He didn’t lose one lung rather he lost lung capacity. If you look up later performances of el triste you can hear the diminishing capacity. Though in the 1980s he recorded a new version which was an octave lower to make it more comfortable with his ability in his later years. It turned out quite nice actually. The 1970s version was really pushing his vocal range as he got up to a G4 in the belting portion.

El Triste - "The sad one" (Lyrics translated) How sad it was to say goodbye, When we adored each other so much, Even the swallow migrated Foreshadowing the end. How sad everything is without you, The beach has no sea, The colors turn gray, Everything is loneliness now. I don't know If I'll see you once again, I don't know what will become of my life without the light of your being, that doesn't shed light on me anymore. Today I want to savor my pain, I don't ask for compassion nor pity This love story was written to be eternal "What a sad one", everyone says of me, That I'm always speaking of you But they don't know that by thinking of your love, of your love, I am able to help myself go on, to help myself live. Today I want to savor my pain, I don't ask for compassion nor pity This love story was written to be eternal "What a sad one", everyone says of me, That I'm always speaking of you But they don't know that by thinking of your love, of your love, I am able to help myself go on, to help myself live.

The song translate to "The sad one". The brief of the song is, "everything feels sad since you left, this pain and sadness helps me remembering you and help me continue living" José José is arguably the best Mexican singer form the 20th century (maybe from all times). His career is not as long as it should have been because of his battle with addictions, but the combination of his great voice with three of the greatest song writers of the time, gave us Mexicans long strings of songs that were authentic jewels. Most people of my generation or older can say they fell in love listening to his songs. This video is from a singing competition in 1970, very early in his career. At this point he only had his first hit song, "La nave del olvido" playing in the radio, but that song was enough to make the crowd go crazy when his name was mentioned as you can see in the video. This was the first time "El triste" was performed and it became an immediate hit. As a Mexican, a standing ovation to this jewel of Mexican music is much appreciated.

The history Roberto Cantoral, who had already made classics like "El reloj", was inspired by a sad and tragic event to make this masterpiece of music in Spanish today. The story of "El triste", a song that became famous in the voice of José José, has to do with the death of the composer's mother. “Yes, it was made for a woman: her mother when she passed away. That's why he says 'how sad it was to say goodbye when we loved each other the most'. No one separates when they love each other the most. And he says 'today I want to savor my pain'. It is the death of his mother," said his son Roberto Cantoral Zucchi in De Primera Mano

The funeral of great José-José was carried on at the Palace of Fine Arts lobby, and thousands were able to bid him a much deserved farewell. On the wall was a picture of him and the first verse of THIS very song: «qué triste fue decirnos adiós» (“how sad it was to say each other good bye”). His parents were both accomplished classical trained musicians (singer and pianist), and he was a double bass player himself in jazz and bolero combos early on in his career. That explains a lot :) His life was kinda tragical, and as a musician myself I have the fortune of have met and performed with several of his regular musicians. The stories they tell are nothing short of amazing.

For the longest time I thought this was a break-up song, at least whenever I got heartbroken I'd listen to this song. When he sings, "today I want to embrace my pain", I can totally relate. When my friends and family wanted to cheer me up and I just wanted to wallow in the pain a little longer. That's relatable. To my surprise, recently, I was looking up the lyrics and read the bio of the composer and why he wrote it. It turns out it's about the pain the composer felt at his mother's funeral. He said he wrote the song after the funeral. I kinda wish I hadn't found it. It changed it a bit for me.

I have seen a lot of coaches react to this song, but you are the first one ever seen soing a standing ovation to a video, thats the efectt José José does to must of the people seeing this vdeo. the perfomance was for a contest that took place im 1970. Unfotunalety he did not win, but thankfully for us, the song has won the heart of millions around the world, like you just did. EN VIVO means it was a live event, those contest were broadcast to the latin countries. I like to thank you for your reaction. From those days there are more mexican singers with the same quality as José José. You can try Emmanuel, Lupita D alessio, Manuela Torres, Lola Beltrán, Enrique Guzman, and so on. Looking foward to see more of your reactions. Grettings from México.

The girl and the two guys focused during the performance, were three of the most famous singers in Mexico back at that time. In fact, the guy with the mouth open, Marco Antonio Muñíz, was considered an acclaimed and one of the greatest singers; nevertheless, he is delighted with José José's performance.
