The French Movie "Joyeaux Noel" introduced me to this beautiful song. I watch it every year and I am reminded of the universal meaning of Christmas "peace", the desire of the human heart, an innocent pure child born in the manger, the humanity of people (Men) from different cultures sharing the same heart in the midst of the ugliest events of war. This is a beautiful version of the song THANK YOU

A singing for Heaven, this was the good old times. "Bist du bei mir, geh ich mit Freuden" (If you are with me, I go with joy) is an aria from Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel's opera Diomedes. The aria is best known as "Bist du bei mir", BWV 508, a version for voice and continuo found as No. 25 in the 1725 Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach.

Isn't it time people stop attributing this magnificent aria to J.S. Bach? He didn't write it, he just "collected" it, like it was in use at the time (no copyright in the XVIII century... ;) )

A very tender, engaging performance! At 2:30, however, a half-tone photo of Pope John Paul appears behind the words "Amore Infinito," or "love without end." As a Roman Catholic, I find that conjunction to be obnoxious as applied to a one-dimensional figure of spiritual alienation, not sincere leadership. This music is a small but shining gem beloved by legion peoples across generations and borders. Unlike the current Pope Francis, or Pope John XXIII from the 1960s, John Paul was a reflexively conservative, anti-socialist and anti-sexual man of limited imagination and clueless historic intelligence, two realms of human endeavor and theologic scholarship that stand as landmarks of our civil and corporal evolution, respectively. He does not deserve to be remembered as a shepard of love or inclusion so valuable today.

Stefan Christoffer Where in my 7 word comment did I say I was better? Read my comment again, or get someone to read it to you. I merely stated my preference for less vibrato.
@stefanstacker353610 жыл бұрын
Bart Brush No need to get exited, but your comment implied that the artists did not or not sufficiently control their vibratos. If you don't like the way these world renowned singers sing don't listen to them. What makes you think the world cares about your preferences unless you are Sir Roger Norrington? To assume this, the way you express them seemingly desperate and your suggestion to have your comment read to me contains a hint of arrogance. That prompted my comment.
@bartbrush557410 жыл бұрын
Stefan Christoffer Stefan, I apologize for my rudeness. I found your initial reply "Are you any better?" to be out of order, as it had nothing to do with my original comment. Of course I'm not better; I'm not even a trained singer. I love this piece, the performers, and the performance, but there is too much vibrato for my taste. I did not mean to suggest that the singers are out of control. With their level of skill, presumably they can apply any degree of vibrato they choose. I should have worded my original comment: "I wish they would reduce their vibratos." This is a matter of personal taste, and we are all entitled to our own, regardless of the preferences of Norrington or Domingo.
@oliviahutchinson22808 жыл бұрын
+Bart Brush They're not children. They don't need to sound like them. You are entitled to your opinion but I would suggest that that if you don't like this sound that you listen to boy sopranos or something. This is a mature adult sound and it is gorgeous.

This is too quick and too hard... It needs more rest (Ruhe), more reconciliation and more humility in singers voice and also the instruments should be more restful... One voice with continuo and better understanding is sufficient.
