You have all heard it before. Bitcoin is digital gold. But what does that actually mean and is it even true? What qualities did gold have to make it money and why is Bitcoin superior to that? This is what we will cover in this video from a somewhat unusual perspective. We will also arrive at the conclusion that Bitcoin is much more than digital gold. Why is Bitcoin the final money and not any other zillion coins out there? Or should we think of this as just crypto coins in general? I guess you'd have to explain why BTC is king apart from many other coins that may have additional advantages. When you say that a BTC coin has a unique identity and all that, so does every other crypto coin. And yet BTC and other coins are not worth the same amount.

All very true except for fungibility. I am concerned that the history of individual Bitcoin can be traced on the blockchain. This does not even concern criminal activity, but whether a block was found by a miner that is not “green-friendly” and therefore becomes less desirable. In that regard, gold is superior.

Yes your concern is not unfounded. Thats why things like coinmixing and bashing everyone who promotes „green bitcoin“ are important.

@@tillmusshoff I have heard bad things about coin mixing. It is complicated and expensive. Some regulated exchanges will not accept mixed coins. And most important, services like Chainalysis claim to be able to trace mixed coins. I think privacy coins like Monero may be eventual the solution.

Coinmixing is getting easier and it‘s not expensive. It‘s possible to detangle the mixed coins but it takes effort. Monero is better for privacy, yes, but worse in terms of auditability which is key to bitcoins store of value promise. I did a video comparing the two on the channel actually :)

There are prominent people with deep technical knowledge of bitcoin that have stated publicly that trying to reverse engineer UTXO pathways to find “bad” coins is next to impossible and totally infeasible to do at scale. Akin to trying to figure out what gold atoms came from plunder and slave labor. I’m not technical enough to make this claim (Nic Carter said it) but I do trust him as a source and trust his ability to arrive at the correct conclusion.

Extracting gold from the earth will never be eco friendly, while PoW can concert unused energy into something productive, which makes the creation of bitcoin utterly amazing!! Bitcoin is far superior to gold in everyway.. When inflation destroys Fiat and the markets crash, the last thing anyone will think about is ( Where did my bitcoin come from) you will thank your lucky stars you have some while everyone around you gets wrecked...
