Playing guitar for more than 20 years now. My friend is moving overseas so he gave me his piano. Tonight is the first time I play it and this is the song I wanna start off with.. very different shapes to guitar chords but it’s great fun learning something new/different. Not as easy as it looks 😆

Thanks for doing this one…It’s literally one of my favorite songs of all time and it’s extremely emotional and moving for me. Whenever I play it I wind up shedding a tear, a happy/warm tear if that makes any sense at all? Anyone else have that experience with a song too? For me, oddly enough, it’s The Scientist, Let It Be and Moonlight Sonata that I literally can’t get through without crying bc I get so moved by it.

I know what you mean! I'm the same with To Build A Home by The Cinematic Orchestra! It's a beautiful thing to be so moved by a piece of music :) Also, 'Daddy' by Coldplay gets me every time!

Francesca, you know I'm both a fan and consider myself a student of yours. I'm very appreciative and love the lessons. There's also something I have difficulty overcoming: I become so emotionally invested in what I'm singing and playing that in some cases, I can't finish the song because I'm crying. Have you ever brought yourself to tears while playing something and if so, could you continue?
@BitesizePiano2 жыл бұрын
Oh certainly! It’s usually because the song is linked to something, like for example; my recently passed Grandad had Fields Of Gold and Love Me Tender played at his funeral. I’ve tried to do these songs on my channel and just can’t if I sing. I’ll hopefully be able to do them on here one day, but it’s a bit too raw still. I’m pleased you’re connecting with music on an emotional level. I try to laugh at myself and I can then usually get through it!

Awesome tutorials, thank you. I've only been learning for a week and currently following pianote with a 30 day free trial, so between learning to get both hands playing scales together I come to your channel to mix it up a bit. I like your teaching style and will be purchasing your course next month. May I ask when you play the B flats with your left hand you have your other fingers curled up, I tried this, but for me it felt much more natural to keep the unused fingers straight. Is there a reason you do it this way?
@BitesizePiano11 ай бұрын
My other fingers are curled to show which note I’m playing, I’m moving my fingers out of the way. I don’t play like that throughout.

Left hand doesn't play the ground notes of the chords. It plays the 2nd and the 3 of the chord triads. So left hand starts with a soft F and a pronounced G on the afterbeat (the 2nd and 3rd of the D minor triad). Listen to the song, you'll notice it.

Actually, you cannot play this and follow the studio version, it’s impossible to play it back, they transpose it higher up on accident so it sounds more brighter and more major more Lydian-like. (P.s, same thing goes with golden hour, jvke told himself it would be impossible to play on piano.)
@BitesizePiano Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t sound ‘more major’ or suddenly becomes Lydian mode if it has been digitally transposed higher. It’s still major, just in a higher major key. For it to sound Lydian mode, you’d have to sharpen the 4th.
