I am not having much luck getting my JR to quit biting. She is still nipping me all over my hands and arms. She is right at four months now and I feel like 99 years of age. I am not giving up but she is a determined little puppy to have her way! Say a prayer for the both of us to get through this phase. I love her so very much! 🙏😢♥️

I had a jack she passed in 2017, now I have another one what I can say is they are stubborn my first jack we went around and around it just took keep working with her don’t give up they are smart and understand a lot make a loud noise when she bites and say no then when she stops say hood girl and when she bites give her a toy after u tell her no, I learned a lot training Mindy sue she was so sweet still I miss her they become amazing little friends to u. Hope this helps remember u have to be more stubborn than her and u are in control not her.

I took my JRT to Puppy Kindergarten (basically puppy playtime, but teaching the parents how to do training) Our instructor suggested that we cry loudly like a puppy being hurt when our pups bit us. Lucy was only 4 months old but those puppy teeth HURT! After a few times of yelping, she quit biting. By the time the 6 weeks of kindergarten were over, I had a non-biter. EDIT: p.s. I really enjoy your videos!

Watching this with my 4 year old jack russel terrier snuggled with me on the bed. I taught my jack russels not to bite as puppies by putting my hand in their mouth and if they so much as started to close their mouth I would squeal loudly making them jump. Now only my female will ever put your hand in her mouth when she get very excited but she will NEVER EVER close her jaw on a hand. She purposefully show you her mouth is open fully till you have removed your hand. We also gave our jack russels planty of toys so they learned to play with toys rather than anything they shouldn’t (like clothing, furniture, people). For the first few month we took our puppies out in a kind of handbag type thing designed for dogs that they could stick their heads out. Our first dog after she was vaccinated even came on a few dog friendly holidays (we drove to) with us. They even came with me on the bus to the gaming place I attended & I took a mesh crate with me so they had a safe place to snuggle in as puppies. We also introduced them to a neighbours dog we knew was vaccinated.

Ok, my dory is about 6 months and she loves biting hands, this is been one of our biggest problems. It almost seems like a way of play and affection for them, my JRT will hug you and bite you. I've used toys, ballls, and chew sticks. I have found she requires lots of play time with the ball. We are still learning each other and making progress

As soon as I could socialise my JRT puppy I did it. I have walked mine on the school run to meet children and their parents, met as many dogs as possible on walks and arranged play dates. If my puppy has bitten me I have said a firm NO and used distraction like a toy. I have picked up that one reason for biting is my puppy is trying to tell me it is walk time or feeding time. I have also used a hand water sprayer and given one squirt when saying no. Now my puppy is realising he may get wet if he does not stop at the command NO.

Thanks for the video! I have a 4 month old JRT that came from a puppy mill in the south. He’s been with me a little over a month. He tried teething on my hand a lot when he first came home. He’s much better now, I use distraction all the time. I think it can be almost anything, a toy that he can chew while enjoying lap time with me, moving to a different area of the room and practicing a behavior I want him to perform, or tummy rubs! I am benefiting the most from the “puppy kindergarten” lessons that we have started. The trainer is very knowledgeable and gives us lots of options.

Yes good advice… When my Jack was young whenever he bit on me while playing I would scream ouch… And I will tell you it worked.. Now when we play rough because I had my fingers in his mouth all the time as a pop and he was careful… If he crunches down on me not even go ouch he will not bite… Wonderful… Never abuse your Jack or any dog… They will lose all faith in you especially Jack’s… He is a wonderful furry family member.. And a gentleman at five years old… He won’t walk in front of me going outdoors he always waits for me to go first and the same when returning inside… I assume it’s because I am the alpha is not something I taught him… Tells you a lot about this breed breed

We have an adorable Jack Russell mix, very lovable and smart. We have been able to teach him some important commands, but there is something we have not been able to teach him; that is to poop outside when we walk him ( 4 times a day). We got the dog from an animal shelter, so we don't know his background. What can we do?.
@TerrierOwner3 жыл бұрын
So is he pooping inside or just not pooping on walks? I would tether the dog indoors as well for 4-7 days if they keep pooping inside or peeing Meaning , allow them inside but use a leash attached to something for several hours a day. Most dogs will sneak around you to poop If you tether them, you can watch them, they can stay comfortable and you can still catch them in the action of sniffing or acting as if they need to poop. Get them out to poop and reward them big time when they do so. Keep this up until you are confident they have it down The main idea is keep them comfortable inside still, but keep them at eyes distance at all time and make it uncomfortable for them poop inside and get them outside often to poop and reward them Clearly not the only option but if the dog is older and that’s a struggle you need a new approach

I just got a Jack Russell puppy last Saturday. It took one day for this little girl to memorize her name (Akira) and another day to learn how to sit when I tell her. She's 10 weeks old and it's weird cuz me and my girlfriend work for 8 hours a day. We manage to get home in our break for a few minutes cuz we work close. We live in an apartment and what is weird about that is that she is such a good girl when we are not home. She doesn't chew or bite on anything, she doesn't poop or piss untill we are at home. But when we get home she does her business everywhere she wants. We tried all methods but still no results. Today after the bath she wanted to piss inside when I told her "No" she didn't listen. Then I took her to her paddy in the bathroom and she literally bite me like I wanted to hurt her. Idk what's to be done. She is verry smart but she doesn't learn where to do her business.

Any tips on nipping at other dogs? To be specific like nipping when first coming home to get attention, or being loved on. I got a male mastiff and a male black lab mix(moms dog who just moved in 4months ago) also with are 1yr male JRT, also i recommend if you're intereted in adding a JRT in your dog family to make sure you already know your dogs or dog , these dogs are big at heart and they love to show it. My mastif(3yrs old) was introduced to are JRT at 4months hes 1yr now. Time to time gotta stop them from rough housing. But i do say make sure your current dog or dogs is well trained because these JRTs will find ways to get back at the bigger dogs if they're jealous or tend to get back at in a simple play (make sure your dog has patience and calm to help them learn becuz they will have to eventually deal with the JRT always trying to take things a little too far with biting extra i think its jealousy of them being smaller and holding on to that grudge) but this just my first experience with a JRT and small dog but i can tell they love hard and play hard which can have its flaws if not fixed right away. But im lucky They're the bestest friends tho and inseparable and our JRT is the master mind lol and has shown are bigger dog ways to open n close gates or doors lmao

I have a 2month old JRT, and she is biting all the time. Literally you can not touch her, because she immediately starts biting. I “replace” my fingers with a toy, but she still wants to bite my finger. Basically she only wants to play with my fingers and to bite them. At the beginning she starts gently, but in a couple of minutes she is more and more agressive. My question is it still normal for this breed?

In your chewing and nipping program here you offered a beef bone. I guarantee you ask your vet or any vet do not give them anything hard like that to chew on as it will ware their teeth down fast. I know this first hand from giving these types of Bones to my labs within,a year they have worn teeth down dramatically causing dental work to save your teeth. So please do not instruct hard bones such as that. Softer chews are much better. Not criticizing just offering advice. I love your podcast as I am a new jack russell owner now 6 years old.

Wish i had the answer to that myself, my jr attacked me without warning when i reached down to pick up a tissue, he has done it a couple of times and never sunk the teeth in, this time he went at my hand like a wild animal and bit me down to the bone. I am at my wits end what to do with him. This is my 2nd JR the first lived to 16 no problems but this boy is becoming somewhat dangerous in that no warnings are given he just attacks, am going to take him to vet for wellness assessment to see if he has any medical condition that would be causing this first.

Our female would start attacking our 17 yr old male JRT, and we’d have to break them up; Buddy recently passed away at almost 18. After some research I found out you should only have either both females or males as they sense their weakness and attack them. It was so hard to watch and now she really misses him. We are looking for another one as these dogs are so smart and it’s true they are our shadows! She follows me everywhere! I wouldn’t have any other dog breed as they are so loving and protective. I would like to hear your reasoning for why she was attacking Buddy; Lulu really misses her brother as well as us!
