That's why I use the OG Luba 5000, because the omni wheels suck, and all of my garden zones are slopes, so the OG Luba has ZERO problems with them even mowing length-wise. It never slides and does a superb job for a year now.

The way it works is the RTK reference station (base station), after establishing its precise location (latitude and longitude) via triangulation, calculates a correction factor for each GPS/Galileo/GLONASS/Beidu satellite signal that it receives. It sends this RTK correction data to YUKA via 900 GHz radio frequency, and YUKA uses the RTK data to adjust the GPS/Galileo/GLONASS/Beidu position that it receives from its receiver to establish its location to within 1 to 2 cm.

Regarding the blade life, it is worth noting that the disks always spin the same direction, and only about 1/4 of the blades should see any real wear. To extend the life of the blades, you can rotate them (switch to the second hole), and eventually also flip them. Additionally, you can buy tools to resharpen them as well (even resharpening them without the need to remove them, if you have the correct tool). I have the Luba 1 5000 for reference.

Thanks for the detailed review. I have been looking at this robotic mower for our large hilly property for some time. The Luba 2 comes closest to covering our requirements, however... the accuracy (and basic function) of these mowers is dependent on satellite visibility and radio transmission for base station and mower. The density of tree canopy can easily impact signal, as can reflection of signal off hard surface - such as walls etc. Are you fortunate to have full sky visibility, with minimal interference from structures and trees, or are there obstacles on your property? The only thing holding us back is the level of sky visibility required, as we have a hill to the west, and also have many trees, though canopy is relatively thin. Those are the only concerns with this machine, otherwise the Luba2s look like an excellent product.

So my property is wooded on the back and sides, with 150ft trees. With that I was convinced that I was going to need to put the rtk at the top of the roof. To my surprise i didn’t. When your in the software you can live view how many satellites the machine currently is connected with, if it’s relying on the vision, etc. When it’s near some of the big trees, especially mowing underneath them, it’s relying more on its vision then the RTK. I think this is come a long way In a short time software wise. The Luba 1 didn’t have the vision so they Saw that satellite disconnection issue and implemented the vision to take over when in a position that the stale was blocked. I would say I can see open sky on 50% of the lawn and then 25% there is some cover and then 25% heavier cover

@@BitnerBuilt That is very positive, thanks for the details. Seeing your response - and another owners Luba 2 vs Luba 1 experience with sat/radio signal on YT, it seems well worth a try. We only want to maintain an acre around our house while we are away, so that will be mainly away from thick canopy, and a 5000 should be sufficient, will test one when we return. We have a paid try before you buy option from a local reseller in AU, cheap insurance!
@BitnerBuilt

@@mrcurlywhirly1671 oh wow that’s great you can try that! My advice would definitely be to take your time when doing the mapping for the first time and break it up into different sections even if you don’t need to that way if you encounter any issues and need to remap that area, your remapping, a much smaller space rather than walking around your entire property one more time. Also, don’t make the mistake. I did make sure that you mow the lawn low and clean before you start and this machine will then maintain that perfect condition going forward. Let me know how it works out for you!

Best revuew i have seen. I have a question.. can i map my yard ( about an acre). Then map a seperate area (a fenced area ) and pick it up & set it in the ff4nced area somit will mow. that area. I have a gate their,but i really hate to leave the gate open (my dog might get out). You said something about adding a seperate Luba.if you had a fenced area.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 3 ай бұрын
Thanks! So you will map both as separate areas and then in the software you will map a pathway between them if you want it to go through an open gate otherwise when you want to mow that front area you can manually drive the mower there (or carry it) hit start for that area and your good to go. There are also some gate products out there that open just for the Luba to get through, and a whole bunch of things of people of custom-made, take a look out there. There’s some neat stuff that can get through the gate without letting your dog out.

With the end of this season i will have it "paid" off compared to using the service i was using. I have arthritis so this has been a god send since i have a large hill. I do still have to use my weed wacker once a week. It takes my 20 mins compared to an hour of walking back a forth up and down hills. I do have one problem spot in my yard. Its a very narrow area on the side of my house between house i lose connectivity so when I do my weed wacking i bring my luba out and cut it in manual mode. There are some electric robot fence doors that open up when the robot approaches and has the transmitter tag on it you can buy. If the concern there is the dogs might get out during that action you can program the mower to go through that fence at a specific time (like 4am) when the dogs wouldn’t be out. I should be getting a yuka and was thinking I would film at my inlaws, they have the same setup as you so I will play with some options

Using LIDAR was a big leap, and finally the software and hardware are equally bad. Both are now within striking distance and I think they will be useful in a year or 2. The biggest current shortcomings are the toy blades, and the width and forward. speed need to double or triple.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 3 ай бұрын
So some questions on your opinion here. Why does the speed need to double or triple? If the machine is autonomous, then it could take 5 min or 5 hours, it wouldn’t matter to me as I’m not doing anything related to it? I am also happy with the razor blade cutter as it’s a quick replace as opposed to a standard that you sharpen (and most people don’t as often as they should) your also going to increase the noise level using a full blade.

@@BitnerBuilt To cut down on mowing hours. Those tiny mowers cost almost half of what a 50" riding mower costs. A 50" riding mower will last 2000-3000 hours. The tiny robots would accumulate many times more hours, and aren't heavy-duty enough to last. By now I suppose you have figured out that I have a medium-sized yard (1 acre) and wish for an autonomous 50-60" mower.

Thanks for the EXCELLENT review! I have questions about the 1¼ acres that this is supposed to mow and how many zones can be set up. If I have more than 1¼ acres, can I break it up into multiple zones that are each under the 1¼ acre limit and set them to be mowed such that each zone can be done on one charge with enough charging time between the mowing of zones or is that a calculated value so that, once the total area of zones added reaches 1¼ acres, you can't add more zones?
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 4 ай бұрын
The acreage is limited to more what the battery can accomplish with needing to charge and mow during a certain amount of time. You can totally do a pretty large property by breaking it up into zones and then scheduling the zones on different days. Half acre property which partially is wooded so I’m not mowing all of that, it typically will accomplish mowing my yard on a medium speed setting in about an hour and a half two hours. Believe you max out at 8-9 zones. Once you’re yard has been mowed down a couple times and your maintaining the height that you want, you can then speed up the mower and it will be able to accomplish more in the shorter amount of time.

I have to come back to this video when I've got mine working. Just got it and the robot doesn't connect to the RTK. I updated the RTK to the latest firmware 1.11.511.37 but when I've tried that on the robot, it just say error 50612. So the robot has the orginal version 1.11.506.247 and it does'nt connects to the RTK. I'm wondering if its now "bricked"? I can do a factory reset on the robot, but not on the upgraded RTK.

I did the upgrade of the RTK in my living room with everything connected and charged. I have never gotten the Pos status symbol on the robot being active. It says in the settings RTK Connection: Not connected (and also "null"). I have a rotating waiting image in the main view of the robot with the text "Positioning".
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 2 ай бұрын
Hmm so if your able to upgrade the rtk it is functioning and active, make sure that both are fully updated, manually unplug both and plug back in, while standing next to it so your in Bluetooth range make sure it’s saying there isn’t another update. For this initial setup put the rtk base station and mower out in the open grass, clear sky not near the house to test to make sure it isn’t a “can’t see the satellite” issue. When you replug in the rtk it will light up if it doesn’t then there’s an issue. Make sure to contact customer service, they are very responsive and will have you send over a log file from the application, bear in mind they are in china so it might be 24hrs etc between responses. I had the same issue, not with the Luba, but with the Yuka, once I got everything fully updated everything was working great, the problem for me was that the RT was running on a different update than the mower and I didn’t realize it.

@syjwg 2 ай бұрын
@BitnerBuilt Thanks for the answer, and I will surely do some more tests tomorrow. Both RTK and mower "sees" about 28 satellites. It is frustrating that error 50612 pops up, and when google, many (most on reddit) are talking about not installing this 511.37 version.

@syjwg Ай бұрын
Tada! It has now cut the complete lawn (about 3,300 m2), and it works like a charm. Perhaps these instructions may help others. I left the robot beside the charger overnight so that the battery was completely discharged. No beeps or nothing when pressing the buttons on the robot. I then put it in the charger, and after a while, I could connect to it via Bluetooth. Added Wi-Fi, and it suddenly displayed a "download" icon where the Robot version was previously displayed. It now wanted to download the latest firmware. Had to wait until the battery was at least 30% charged, but after that, it was successfully installed. It first installed version 1.11.510.200, and after that, it installed 1.11.511.537. I did change the email in the app just to start fresh.

The sealing is great, not sure why anyone would say that (unless it was an older model) the model I have feels very robust and all of the connections are on the bottom with heavy waterproofing gaskets. I have zero waterproofing concerns with that. I know from one of my businesses how the sun can really degrade non UV rated plastics and rubber, with all of the points of failure on the bottom, shielded from the sun, I don’t see any issues here

My lawn is 1/2 acre, it depends on what speed I put it at, normally I’d say a hour and a half on medium/fast. There are a lot of people on Facebook that have “garages” for their mowers so when it parks to charge it’s in what looks like a dog house / mini garage so it’s out of sight. I run mine at 4am since part of my lawn is on a road and I don’t want to risk it being hit, it’s whisper quiet so you can do that as well.

Your lot is in really rough condition. I could see how a self directed mower would have many problems if your mapping is too inclusive of those areas. If the lot was more tidy, string trimmed of the tall grass prior to mowing and you were a little more focused with avoiding the inclined areas around that drainage ditch this might be even better. All things considered it seems to have done what it was designed to do. What is the maximum size area one of these mowers is capable of handling? What is the cut quality with these razors versus your previous mower with blades? Is the grass being cut look like it is being torn or are the end cuts smooth like I might expect with a razor? Good job on the video. 😎👍👍

Thanks - yea as I said it was not in good condition, just scarified, over seeded and weeded since I was done with the video to try and star putting some love into it. This mower can handle up to a 4 acre lot which you can divide up into a max of 8-9 zones so you can rotate what’s being done each day. I found the cut quality very clean over my craftsman riding mower and since it’s taking off very little each day, I haven’t seen any tear out and I have actually been watching that since I over seeded a week ago. I’m completely honest when I said this was never anything that I ever considered seriously before, but I’m extremely happy with it and never going back to doing the lawn myself. I’m actually going to be making some alterations, putting a retaining wall in near that gate, and just keeping in mind, what the capabilities of the machine to those things so that it will actually eliminate the edging needs in those areas.

That’s about as old as my craftsman riding lawnmower was, I had about three years in a row of spending the time to properly winterize it and then taking it out and it just not wanting to start and having to put it in to get serviced. So after the arm for the deck snapped off, I decided enough was enough. I never ever considered the robotic lawnmower, but I’m in all honesty completely sold. It never dawned on me that this thing would mow every single day so it always looks super good, I just scarfed and receded the lawn once I was done with the video and we’re going to be doing a whole bunch of edge projects to make the lawn look nicer and also to, limit the amount of edging that I have to do now that I understand exactly what the mower will do on the property. Definitely something to keep in mind for later.

regarding the "problem" of trying to twist when traversing across a hill. I don't know if this is possible. If you could define a "zone" that defines the area of the steep slope. Then assign to that zone a cutting pattern that causes the mower to only go up/down and not sideways. I currently do not have a Luba, so I don't know if you can assign a per zone cutting pattern.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 4 ай бұрын
So for the one heavy sloped area, what I have been able to accomplish is making that small area its own zone and then you can pick a different pattern for it to travel. I still don’t have it due 100% of the way down, but it is mowing about half as much more of that hill as it was before. My property of course is a lot different than a lot of other peoples. I actually have one of my employees this week, digging up some of the small edging areas that I have and replacing it with a sunken paver so that the Luba will be able to drive over the paver and, essentially eliminate any string trimming needs. We’re also building a retaining wall in that drainage ditch in the front that will be sunken so again the Luba can drive over the paver that way the lube is doing 100% of the work and I really don’t have to do any edging around the property anymore.

I just got one. It came ridiculously fast compared to the Amazon estimate. This is a lot of money, but after two years of not using the lawn people, it will pay for itself. Just hope the RTK works in my tiny suburban yard with close homes. I have heard some people put the RTK in the attic. I feel better about mowing my bermuda short like I'm supposed to anyway...

@@roywaggoner8787 yea I think the roof outdoor mounting bracket with the solar cell is the best install solution for the rtk but still been surprised how well it’s working for me from the pole. I have been testing the Yuka at my in-laws and the rtk has a bit of a problem in one area there also pole mounted

@@BitnerBuilt What I like is that lawn super fans like Ryan Knorr like this one. I have not wanted one with the old wires, and this looks better than Segway etc. with slopes like most suburban crap builder yards like mine have!

Have you seen one that cuts under 1 inch? Currently I mow every 2 to 3 days to maintain my bermuda lawn.

, No, I haven’t seen one that low, I do have another mower that’s a new prototype from a company being sent out to review so I’ll update you if that one is applicable

The Luba two does cut .98 inches itself, I’m wondering if you’re going any lower your risking any little bump would bottom out the mower and create a bare patch?

Shouldn't be a problem, I level every spring. Thank you for the follow up.

How much is this - I don't know if you mentioned it or not?

I mentioned in the video it’s around the price of a mid range riding lawnmower or having a service done for a year or two depending on your lawn of course. They have a whole bunch of different models and it’s based on how large your property is. 1500-4k depending on your yard size needs.
