I use to sew hooks along the rope and that got a bit of attention as one got hooked reel bad, they stayed put for a while giving you time for disciplinary action

Unfortunately pot thieves are just another part of crabbing these days. I can remember when my old man and I used to go out, we would swim or crawl our pots deep into the mangroves. We even had some under a fruit bat colony. The upside was it was worth the effort and we always came home with a decent haul. A bit harder to do that further north though, as I reckon you’d risk becoming croc food
