Addiction is a primary chronic illness that can manifest in various forms, including food addiction.
This is what Bitten Jonsson wants to emphasize. She was a nurse who struggled with smoking and alcoholism at the onset of her career. She was forced to enter rehab and during that time, she learned addiction medicine, which helped her overcome her drinking and smoking habits. Yet she continued to struggle with compulsive eating of ice cream and chocolate. That was when a doctor diagnosed her as a "food addict.”
This conversation brings to light the importance of understanding addiction as a primary illness and the work our brain does to heal from addiction. Bitten recounts her own battle with addiction and road to recovery. She also emphasizes how social media, screens, and processed meals all contribute to the development of addictive behaviors.

I used to eat sugar with a spoon, especially brown sugar. I would drink honey and eat spoonfuks of molasses. As a child, I would steal money to buy candy at the corner store. I have broken sugar addiction for 13 plus years now, hardest thing I ever quit! Thank you for this wonderful and informative interview!

I did all of those things except molasses. But add condensed milk and corn syrup. Glad (sort of!) I'm not the only one. I'm 8 years alcohol free, but just recently decided to ditch all sugars. Better late than never 🙂

Like you Dr.Ovadia when I kicked my sugar addiction to the curb the alcohol addiction went with it. My personal belief is that alcohol addiction is a subset of sugar addiction. You can't make alcohol without sugar.

Went on KZbin to find more interviews with bitten..... Didn't realize there was one with Dr ovadia! This is fantastic I love these two but I'm really needing to watch a lot of it and stuff because I've relapsed with sugar during my three and a half year carnivore journey.... I'm super bummed that I fell back in the stitch and I'm working hard to try to get back out!

Also candida 'eats' the protective layers in the stomach so the acid causes inflammation, still it's not too much acid that is the problem.

I disagree about vegan food. Eating vegan junk food is terrible, but eating whole food plant based, with low fat, low/no sugar, and no oil and eating low glycemic, we can be very healthy.

Low fat and low protein diets are catastrophic for human health. We need animal products.
