Bittersweet - Big Head Todd and the Monsters

From the March 7, 2007 show at the Fox Theater in Boulder, CO. I shot the second half of this show off the shoulder in front of the stage. Apologies for the shakiness, but the Canon XL2 is very front-heavy (due to the 20x lens) and holding it up for over an hour makes the arms tired. Uploaded with permission from the band.

Sister Sweetly is one of my favorite driving CDs of all time, it is ALWAYS in my truck. Bittersweet is probably my favorite song on the album. This song is just good for the soul!!

These kinds of songs are great. i live in Phx. My Brother Lives In Colo Springs. He sees these guys alot. They were playing at The House Of Blues in Vegas awhile back. My brother talked us into driving up to see them. I now own a CD and have them on a few of my playlist. Very good Sound... Good high energy show. I recomend seeing them if you get the chance.....

This is one of my deserted island tunes!! They are coming to my city in June--nite show along the river--can't wait!! Never seen 'em but really look forward to it. They seem very authentic and down to earth guys. Man this song is outstanding!!!

I've seen almost every live version of this song. This is the best one. The guitar solo(s) are absolutely sick, and the version is so heartfelt. Incredible. No words.

This is in my Top Ten Songs To Change Where Yer'at. They are HIGHLY version-specific. I was just sharing the list with a new friend and was moved to thank you for this wonderful version and it's longevity due to band permission. In 2005 when we were first blessed with KZbin right through today, when a particular version is removed it screws with my lists and...I prefer KZbin over all media as it is almost as effective as live. And sometimes as good as live, even better, due to time and place and living image to go with the feeling...Merry Christmas all...

Sister Sweetly is one of the best CDs that I own. Since first hearing it in 93, I have been a fan. They are at their best LIVE and I have seen at least 25 shows. Have never turned someone onto them that didn't like it. Very few bands can transcend to so many different people. They are truly unique!

Perfectly said! Blessing you have seen them that many times!! They are undoubtedly special! Same here everyone showed them too they like it! I will say it is a travesty how many people have no clue who they are!! Truly under-rated and underappreciated by the music industry! I have never heard anything less than they are humble and sweet guys! That alone is worth spending money on tickets to see them! At least they would never take their fans forgranted!

@@nicolee2649 I've seen them with a few thousand & then intimate settings with a few hundred. Once I bought 20 tickets, took my son & 18 friends for a show at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. We had some of the best seats in the house & the tickets were only $20. No matter where they play, the guys adore their fans. Obviously they are thankful making a living doing something they love. They are 10x better than a lot of bands I've seen that had more commercial success. I've never understood why they don't have a bigger audience. But they are still going strong, while many of those other bands are gone!!

So great how his solo is so bittersweet sounding but way more sweet the bitter! Never get tired of these guys. Saw them open Festival de La Luna at Auditorium Shores in Austin under a perfect full moon night. Thousands of groovy cool Austinites were dancing with these guys under the full moon for hours it seemed. Just beautiful and super special! Thanks BHT&M! Your music is not just good but great and life is better because of it.

Sadly I heard this on a campus radio station in Albuquerque New Mexico but never heard the name of the song or the artist, but the song stuck in my head for years. Finally I happened upon it while tripping through youtube videos. It's as great as I remember it.

I've seen these dudes in bars, concert halls, arenas all over Denver for 25 yrs. . My homie went to Columbine High School w Todd...so we used to follow these guys everywhere. .. Hermans, Mercury Cafe, The Brdwy, Jimmi's Grill....Nothing beat it.

holy shit i just got home from their concert, amazing......been listening to guys for about 15yrs now. got my gal hooked on them and she thought it was a great concert. they are very good live, they don't miss a beat and sound just as good. they also do some great covers, not too many though. and when they jam, well....wow!!

I have to say they are the best I have seen! And I have seen the Grateful Dead six times. My brother has been friends with these guys for over 20 years, or somewhere around that. I have been backstage and in the bus to watch the end of a football game. I have got them lost in Pittsburgh. I remember the Summer of '87 or so in Denver w/ my Gina, sitting there in a teeny bar, watching these guys first set up their gear, thinking, "I bet that's Todd messing w/ the amp. Um, maybe not." Then, they open w/ "From Flanders Fields" and we're creamed by the music. About 30 people there, all next to the stage. Funniest thing? We'd seen the name on flyers and thought they were a punk band. That's why we were there. Then they played and that's why we stayed.

It so poignantly captures the expectations of a relationship and how different it sometimes ends up. "Its different than my dream." And the thin line between love & hate & unspoken desire.
