Bixpy Installations - Bixpy Hand Steering Kit

This is a video to demonstrate the installation of the Bixpy Hand Steering Kit. This mechanism gives you steering ability for your Universal Kayak & Canoe or Universal Rudder WillFit™ adapters. This kit is not included with your motor mount adapters and needs to be purchased separately if your kayak is not already equipped with a steering system.
This kit can also be used as a rudder steering system without a motor if desired.

I recently purchased this and so far.havw not been Ble to get it to work that well. I think they should add a way to adjust the tension on the lines

The video doesn't show the steering in action. I have one of these steering boxes and I have had very little luck getting it to work very well so far. I have tried several different setups and stall struggle.

How do you lift the motor with the tight steering lines

Why would you go through the trouble of an install video, and not show how well it worked.... and how far it turns the motor?

Can I use this hand control system for a beavertail rudder, in place of the (trash) hand control system that comes with the FeelFree Lure? The hand control system that I had (gray arm with orange handle) broke, and I dont even want a new one of those. Nothing but problems.

We have not done that before. So can't say with certainty that it will. Our hand steering provides a directional pull of about 1.4" to either side. If you think that is sufficient, that it should do the trick.

I'll check if that will work, maybe I can drill holes closer to the main rudder shaft. I'll comment again if it works well. Thanks for the quick response.

When tying the rope down on the motor how much slack there should be? The part I got didn't have the two screws, instead it has two ring eyes.

Hi Leo, the steering lines should be tight enough to allow good steering but not too tight that they start pulling up on your adapter. And no matter how well you do it, they will always need to be fine tuned after the first couple of rides. Yes, we replaced the screws with eye-bolts a while back because the eye-bolts are easier to work with and they don't damage the steering lines. Does the rudder have to be off center?

Hi Steven. Not at all actually. We only did that on this install because the handle was in the way and we wanted to know that you can do a side mount if you needed to do so. In fact, it's best if you install centered off the stern. Since this install, we do have a couple of other options for a better install on this kayak. One being our Universal Rudder Adapter (bixpy.com/bixpy-universal-rudder-adapter) or using our Power-Pole adapter (bixpy.com/bixpy-universal-power-pole-adapter). Sure, the only thing you would need to consider is how much bending and twisting you're putting in the cords as they get to their destination.
