I believe back in the late 1700s people generally believed that all known planets had life. They even tried to estimate how many people lived on each planet given human density on earth. They even came up with an estimated population for the Sun! This was of course before modern understanding of gravity or thermodynamics, but it's great for a laugh now.

Yes, Wallace & Gromit have been known in America for a long time now. The episode Simon is thinking of is called "A Grand Day Out", and was the first W & G film made. The Moon wasn't made of Wensleydale; that was just Wallace's favorite cheese. He actually found lunar cheese to be rather odd. Fun fact: Wensleydale cheese had almost vanished form the Earth when its fortunes were revived by Wallace & Gromit. They just couldn't sell much of it, and the one place that still made it was on the verge of shutting down. But the films created massive demand for it.

Regarding the fun fact. Perfect example of supply and demand. But also makes one wonder just how many culinary delights have being lost? I love biscuits (not what Americans call biscuits). Apparently the Victorians had literally hundreds of local variants. These days there's a handful left for a variety of reasons that amount to supply and demand. Americans love Oreos. If you like them you should try McVities Golden Crunch if ever given the chance. Nom nom. Or the humble Hob Nob that can withstand many dunkings into tea/coffee unlike most biscuits. Smother one side in chocolate and it's oaty goodness. Man, I need a cup of tea to dunk biscuits in now lol.

Fun fact: Herschel wanted to name the planet “Georgium Sidus” (George’s Star or George’s Planet) after his patron, George III. This name was not popular outside of England and it was renamed by the rest of the world “Uranus” after the Greek God of the sky…or so they say, but I believe that it was a plan concocted by those dastardly French to rob the English King of a planet. They chose Uranus NOT because he was god of the sky but because they knew, for hundreds of years to come, the English version of Uranus would make everyone fall about laughing…if you have the humour of a 12 year old boy. And we do.

As someone with my own business and lab, who works in photonics daily… I can assure you that if we had lasers and projection equipment advance enough to project the moon as a hologram… A lot of things would have already changed and happened. Like sending a late sale out of our solar system, all nuke and weapon interceptors would be high-powered lasers, and thousands upon thousands of things in the manufacturing and medical fields that are way too complex to describe. The inverse square law is a real thing… So the lasers and projection shit is totally BS. But as much as I curse the inverse square law… We need to be thankful… If it wasn’t for the inverse square law the smallest piece of plutonium halfway across the world would be just as strong for us as it is for the person standing next to it

Until recent times, I think most of us believed that people in the past believed all kinds of nonsense because they were less educated/less informed/had a harder life without all the technologies and medicine, etc..... However, recent events have taught us that humankind is just as gullible today with all of those advantages as were the people barely out of the caves. People are people and many of them love fairy tales and always have. Basically, people will believe what they want to believe regardless of facts and figures and proof.

The Zulu's and others say the moon wasn't there in the past until something brought it there and it was hollow. People think that's nonsense... Meanwhile NASA proved it was hollow, and we still aren't sure how all those pyramid's were built all over the globe, or what they were used for.. They weren't tombs.. Especially in egypt.. the craters on the moon used to be a bit deeper during the heavy bombardment but each impact dispersed some of the moon sediment into the previous craters and filled them in partially. (and since the impacts increased the temperature so much, it was easier to move the molten rock.)

fun fact “ye” in old timey english was pronounced like modern “the”. it’s a relic from the awkward time when english still used Þ and ð and the printing press, which did not have these characters, was getting pretty popular. “y” was used as a compromise for a while before english ditched its runic letters and made “th” a thing.

I have rather mixed feelings about conspiracy theories/theorists. On one hand I don't understand why some people fixate on something highly unlikely, manufacture 'evidence' and then attack those who aren't persuaded by their 'logic' - when governments/state institutions are blatantly doing many awful things without adopting even a veneer of secrecy. Why not ask questions about homelessness, climate change, poverty or hunger? However, I think that 'conspiracy theorist' is a useful negative label for government to apply when discrediting those who ask legitimate but uncomfortable questions about the abuse of power. Ultimately though, I'm here to talk about those blue, one-horned goats on the moon. I am a genuine, real-life goat-keeper and as such believe I am qualified to posit this 'theory' as entirely possible - in fact, as I actually have goats, I'm rather OVER-qualified compared to some conspiracy theorists. I also have a one-horned goat - called Gonzo - who, admittedly, is brown rather than blue but, in the interest of adding a bit of confirmation bias into the mix, he identifies as 'blue' (if not physically then metaphorically) being nicknamed 'Eeyore' for his striking resemblance to the character and good line in existential angst! I also have a friend and fellow goat-keeper who, as a bit of a giggle, posted an advert on goat forum for some kids she had for sale and, after giving all the important information, ended the ad with: "Would make great astronauts". She had more calls about those kids than she ever did for previous ads, leading me to believe that it was various government agencies trying to recruit new goats for the moon colony. EVIDENCE, PEOPLE, EVIDENCE! Just making some tin foil horn guards for the goats because their horns pick up alien frequencies. Okay, that's my feeble attempt at satirising about how conspiracy theories build - often from a sound knowledge base or grain of truth - and yet ultimately becoming a tangled mess of paranoia. But seriously, if ever there is an animal suited to the world of conspiracy it is the goat. They conspire - individually and in groups - from the moment they wake to the moment they sleep, and then dream up more conspiracies as they slumber. Their favourite conspiracy is escape from where they should be and accessing where they shouldn't be - and, yes, maybe the moon is a bit far but I wouldn't put anything past them to be honest. The main evidence against blue moon goats being that they haven't been reported elsewhere because they would never have stayed on the bloody moon! Ah, one-horned blue moon goats - they laugh in the face of a Dyson fence!

I recently heard that fruit of the loom got in on the April fools jokes with a Mandela effect….everyone remembers their logo having a Cornucopia behind the fruit so for April 1st they made their website have one to mess with people, so I guess now their logo really DID have one but only recently and I’m sure not many people would randomly look on their website to see it on that certain day

Just making sure you do not think this was an Old English poem. Middle English period was 1150-1450. Old English was before that and 1546 is just early modern English. There are a lot of people that think Shakespeare is Old or Middle English as well.

I was crossing my fingers the whole time that the Doctor Who episode would come up; way to get in that last minute reference lmao If anyone’s wondering, the episode in question features the doctor (an alien) putting the onus on his human travel buddy to decide whether they should blow up the obviously-about-to-crack-open moon egg (which would either save the earth and end a species the likes of which was totally unknown), or let it hatch and see what happened. In the interest of a happy ending, of course, humanity ultimately votes (via turning all the lights on the planet on/off) to allow the egg to hatch, a moon dragon thing pops out, and promptly lays another egg to take its place before taking off into outer space. Philosophically interesting episode where almost nothing actually happens 😂

Sadly, if you consider the mark of a well-done episode to include: 1) characters/acting, 2) plot line, and 3) good writing, many of the episodes I like best after that point are lacking in at least one of those areas 🤦🏻‍♀️

Loving the videos, and yes the earliest doctor who episodes were in black and white. There are even some 'lost' episodes because the BBC at the time used to record over their film due to the cost of it.

A former friend of mine believes in flat earth conspiracy - and I believe he also voted for the orange clown now living in Mar A Lago. It all adds up when you think about it.

I've mentioned this before. My theory on how some people believe crazy stuff is this: They don't know something so they ask someone older and in charge. Instead of getting someone like my Mom who will freely admit, "I don't know," they'll instead get someone like my Dad who will give you some spur of the moment BS answer. Must be true. Dad says so. 😁

This can also be a cultural thing. In some cultures, it is a blow to your reputation or ego to say you don’t know something. Either the elder or teacher will spout BS or they will just tell you to stop asking questions. Worst case, you get scolded for making them feel bad on top of it.

I LOVE conspiracy theories _because_ they're 99% nonsense. I agree about conspiracy theorists though. My uncle is one and he wrote an entire song about how ignorant he is about GMOs and posted it to KZbin.
