Worth pointing out that, funnily enough, biblical angels *aren't* supposed to look like that. From what I've heard they're said to be a lot more... well, horrifying. Horrifying at the "you're going to go insane now" sort of level. Which explains why artists never depicted them the way they were really supposed to look. So even if you do believe they're real, or that aliens somehow look like them... these people and their story *still* got it wrong. ;) And you know what that means... 1. We're talking about a conspiracy theory within a conspiracy theory. or 2. These people have got even less of an idea what they're talking about than even *Simon* thought! Well, I know which of those two options I believe in. :)

Douglas Adams covered why aliens don't visit Earth: “Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. There actually IS a whole Russian cartoon movie franchise about the Communist Space Dogs. There is a story out there called Road Side Picnic, originally Russian, and it has a beautiful premise: Aliens pass by earth and stop for a picnic... we are but ants, given no consideration, and they just leave. Then humanity has to piece itself back together, picking through the junk left behind to try and understand what happened!
@korstmahler
@korstmahler 2 жыл бұрын
One of my favourite books ever. The real horror is that the humans have no idea what actually happened. Everything is just best working theory and there's competition. In addition to 'Roadside picnic theory' there's 'Uplift gift theory' where they think the items were left behind intentionally to teach us, and also 'habitation theory' where the visitation is ongoing, and the 'Dick the Tramp' anomaly might in fact be a guard entity or even a visitor itself. All of the above are brought up in a drinking conversation between a Canadian scientist and xeno-lab supply manager.

Mass hallucinations exist. The difference between having the same dream and having the same hallucination is that in the case of hallucinations, you're conscious and can communicate with each other, telling each other what you see and so influence each other's hallucinations.They're also usually simple enough that you can convince yourself afterwards that it was the "exact same thing"
@natahliazaring5291
@natahliazaring5291 Жыл бұрын
And not only that, because the state of the brain during a hallucination is often highly suggestible, even the memory of the hallucinatory event can be malleable after the fact. So if multiple people were hallucinating together, the combination of talking about the hallucination as it happens, and talking to each other afterwards to confirm that others saw what you saw can both be methods of propagating the same hallucinatory event through even a large group.
@seregiel9541
@seregiel9541 2 жыл бұрын
Mass hallucination exists through suggestion. If a group of people are already mentally prone, say gas leak, ergotism, etc and one person suggests to the group an item looks like [insert hallucination here] than the rest of the group is likely to identify it as well and agree upon that experience.

Yeah sucks that they demoted Pluto, and he done nothing wrong.. To answer the second part of your comment, the government always likes to have a big bad boogeyman (first it was russia, then it was vietnam, then it was iraq, then it was al-qaeda, then it was isis, etc) to justify spending especially potentially needless/ frivolous spending i.e. huge military budget much of which disappears into black budgets for supposed WMDs (when there weren't any), so if there was a whole potential planet out there just waiting to take us out at any time it lowers people's distrust of the government allowing them to get away with more in the name of defending the populace. I once saw something really strange in the sky late one night, and I'm sure there's probably a logical explanation for it, but I don't have anyone astronomically savvy in my life, so I guess I'm just going to keep wondering about it. It was about 3 AM and I was outside having a cigarette, watching the stars. I happened to be following a plane flying across my line of vision when all of a sudden, there was a very bright round object went straight across the sky at a fantastic speed. I had been watching this plane for at least a minute or two, and this bright object had surpassed the plane and disappeared from my field of vision within several seconds in the time it took for me to see it, blink, and reopen my eyes, plus one second more. I've seen lots of shooting stars, I've seen meteor showers, but this was nothing like it-- it moved in a straight line horizontally across the sky like nothing I've ever seen in the sky with the exception of something mechanical but this was much too fast for it to have been something normal like a plane/helicopter. If anyone out there has a theory about what it could have been, I'd love to hear it!

@@dandylionsloth446 Seems really unlikely. I don't know how big ball lightning can get, but this was large enough to see on the ground from miles away. Smaller than the plane, but I could tell it was a large object. It also went in a straight, continuous line at an even pace.

I don't know when you saw this it could have been the international space station. It is very bright and has a discernible angular size. It moves incredibly fast and travels in a straight line across the sky.

The thing about the plane that crashed is, unlike MOST billionaires (even ones who do have licenses) it wasn't an extravagant plane. Not that it lacked safety or anything, it was just a mid-range personal plane. IIRC from early reports on, the plane itself was it's a very reliable model and has had very few crashes compared to similar planes... Hey, did you mix up beard oil with chilli oil today??

1:25 I know this analogy of aliens seeing us as ants gets used a lot and I get it. BUT! 1. There’s thousands of people who study ants their entire lives. and 2. The more we don’t find life out in the universe the harder it gets to agree with the “they don’t give a crap about us” theory. Simon just said we would be so excited to find a potato on another planet. We *hope* to find *bacteria*. So finding a planet literally covered in liquid water and millions of species, at least one of which is sentient, would be a fascinating discovery.

If aliens did discover us, I'm sure some would have studied our planet, but we would probably have the same amount of comprehension of those aliens as ants do that we study them

Actually what she said was "the spacecraft was scorched upon reentry, the braking thrusters aren't working and I'm going to crash ahhhh", the good news is she got an open coffin funeral in Moscow, she was a fairly high ranking Soviet Officer and the spacecraft was sabotaged by a guy who she rejected because she was married and had a few kids(I saw her picture, she was a smoking hot brunette when she was alive though)

01:20 - While this is a solid analogy, the argument could be made (purely for argument sake) that were those ants making use of modern technology and both land and air vehicles; we'd all be extremely interested to the point that it would dominate world news for a significant period of time. Knowing humans the way I do, this would most likely result in the formation of two clear global factions - those who'd prefer to communicate with the ants and those that would break out a can of Raid.... Now apply my analogy to the possibility of of the existence of advanced cosmic beings and there's suddenly a whole lot to think about when you get bored. Or stoned.
