Final Fantasy IX - Black Waltz #3 (Boss)

Yes, that's right, I'm doing some FFIX. I have most of the other older FFs uploaded in some way, but I skipped this FF. (The only clip of this game I had up until this point was in my Omnislash Vs Lion Heart Vs Grand Lethal Vs Blitz Ace video)
I chose to do this game next because I feel like it's one of the more underrated FF games. It's a very fun and solid game to play IMO, and the game has a bunch of awesome boss fights and cut scenes (and FMVs). I WON'T be uploading every single boss. This boss is not the games first boss, it's about the 4th-5th. It's the first really epic fight in the game, so I figured it's perfect to start with this. I'll be uploading only what I feel like are the epic and badass parts of the game.
For you Brawl fanatics that are missing tourney videos, relax, more to come very soon, I'm not uploading all my FFIX in one shot like I did SSE Mode. Anyway...onto the video.
Plot
These sections will be a small summary of the current plot of the game, since I'm skipping a lot, it would be confusing to have no clue what's going on in some of the fights.
The game started out with Zidane, the main character, part of a group of thieves to kidnap Princess Garnet. Their motives were unknown at this point, and to Zidane's surprise, she willingly wanted to escape the castle. Steiner is her apparently personal bodyguard for the most part, so he pursued Zidane, and is now stuck with them. Garnet wanted to blend in with normal people, so she "changed" her name to Dagger....Yea, weird. I'll refer to her as Dagger now.
The queen, who wants Dagger back, had Zorn and Thorn send out these Black Waltz enemies to retrieve her alive. There were two before this one. The first one Zidane was forced to fight solo (one of the harder fights in the game) and the second one is almost exactly like this, except not as epic. As for why Vivi is so emotional about the other Black Mages dying, he was the only Black Mage he knew of until they saw these lifeless Black Mages. That's about it for a plot summary.
Strategy
This guy works about the same as the other two. Just spams spell attacks on you. He has basic magic and Thundara. It's not a huge threat, but don't let your HP fall too low. Regular Potions are all you have to heal at this point in the game. Thundara may target one or all members.
I'm not sure what it means when he floats in the air, but it seems to heavily reduce your accuracy on him. For offense, just have Vivi spam spells. He starts off in Trance in this game. If you've played FFVII and FFVIII, this is similar to Limit Breaks. Battle system wise, when your bar under your time bar is filled, you auto go into Trance, where some commands may be replaced by more powerful ones, or stat changes may happen, such as higher strength. In this case, the game explains that Trance can be invoked with emotion, which is why Vivi goes into Trance. Vivi gets the double cast ability. Use that to make quick work of this boss. Just have Zidane and Steiner spam attacks and backup heal.
One last bit of advice. Zidane has a Steal ability. Bosses tend to have amazing items to steal for those points in the game where you can steal them. I strongly suggest stealing everything bosses have as often as you can. Most bosses will have 3 items, though some have from 1-4. It's annoying as hell to do this though, so what I do with these fights is I play through it and steal all the items, then save. Then I go back to the previous save and record a display fight. This is so that you're not stuck watching me attempt to steal all the items a boss has. Equip the Bandit ability when you get to learn it to make stealing MUCH less painful.

I was shocked when I first saw this. The brutality of BWN.3 towards his own kind contrasted sharply with Vivi's expression of horror and sadness. And this was right after you learn that Vivi was born on an underground conveyer belt.

I like how Steiner immediately moves in to assist Vivi after witnessing No. 3's carnage, even though he's supposed to be there for Garnet's sake. So many good characters in this game.

My favorite part about Steiner is that he truly is a good person. Just an incredibly naive one (at first). He may have his stuck up moments but he truly cares about his friends and would lay down his life to protect those he holds close. And although beatrix has been shown to be better than him in every sense imaginable, they both share the same humanizing flaw. Of not seing how evil the queen had become before it was too late. Which makes the relationship they develop that much more believable.

i think at that point it was a glimmer of his personality. Like think about it he knows that Black Waltzes are technically on his side by that point, he could have just sided with No.3 and beat the shit out of Zidane and Vivi, like a Queen's loyal knight he is claiming to be, And like Zorn and Thorn thought he would do (hence why they called him a traitor) Get all the glory and outdo Beatrix. But even someone so naive and blindly loyal like him, completly snapped when he saw what he has done, And in this one brief moment he didnt think about the queen or the princess, he just went there to destroy a pure monster. Brahne's side or not.

The whole sequence of Escaping the city and being on the run all the way to Lindblum is just classic. Purely focused After that, the game loses track in my opinion. It starts to mimic other Final Fantasy stories and motifs.

Very nice. The only problem I have with Final Fantasy IX is that the combat is somewhat slow. If it wasn't for that, I'd enjoy it a lot more.

Great upload. I spent all my healing items trying to defend while getting Zidane to steal, but I had to give up and just kill him, even with bandit on. Hard luck. FFIX was amazing. 7 and 8 were very good but you can tell it was still difficult to make good 3D for PSX at first, and 9's models and GFX engine was far more smooth. I almost wish they managed to make another official FF game for it after this. It's also a great homage to FFIV, because the characters have their own set classes.

Bizkit, in regards to your confusion the description... When you attack him physically, he starts to fly. When he does, all his magic will target all of your units (when he's on the ground, his magic only single targets). You can avoid this altogether by only using magic on him.

@Bizkit047 Yeah I do. Random encounters on the world map take awhile, some spells have long animations (I'm looking at you Ark). It just seems you'll be waiting awhile if you don't put some normal attacks in there.

This is probably my favorite game out of the series (I didn't play 1-6, or 12 or the MMOs) It really is an underrated game, and I'm happy to see you do this run. Also good choice starting off here since the others are either instant win, or just hard to lose.
