At the BizNews Investment Conference BNIC#1, Cy Jacobs, CEO of 36One Asset Managers, painted a promising picture for South Africa’s investment landscape. Emphasizing the country's renewed potential for growth, Jacobs highlighted key factors including government initiatives like Operation Vulindlela, Eskom’s improvements, and the evolving financial market. While cautioning against pessimistic media reports, he underscored a rising interest from global investors and opportunities in domestic equities. With a well-balanced strategy of local and offshore investments, Jacobs shared why 36One remains confident in South Africa's future amidst shifting market dynamics.

Intrigued by Cy’s comment on his relief when Andre de Ruyter left Nampak. And his dismay that he stayed so long at Eskom. De Ruyter was hailed a hero on this channel and other MSM. Appreciate hearing the high regard that Mteto Nyati and his leadership and role in turning Eskom around after De Ruyter said it was not salvageable.

I find it baffling the global pessimism about precious metals esp. PGMs. Global reserves of PGMs are only about 70k metric tons, 88% of which is in SA. Rhodium is the rarest metal in the Earth's crust and is the perfect catalyst with its high melting point and resistance to reacting with oxygen. Mineable gold is projected to run out by 2050. Besides the fact that these metals are extremely rare in the Earth's crust, they also have unique chemical properties (niche industrial uses like catalysts, coating on temperature resistant wiring, reflective coating on high precision mirrors). If the USA or China had this lion share of such an important mineral they won't be selling it at lower than extraction cost. The world metal councils are cabals ripping us off I suspect. Why does the SA govt not create strategic reserves of our precious metals to safeguard our future. At the moment we are literally giving our natural endowment away at below cost. Insane. Only Rhodium is still selling at above production costs (/oz) but it is about 15 times more rare than Pt, so I don't think at current prices that enough ounces are produced to make up for the "subsidised" Pt & Pd production.

I would like to indicate that within SA politics the only 'centrist' parties are small parties like PA, VF+, ASA, etc. Pravin Gordhan was a true left leaning politician and he was in the engine room of the current power structures ruling the ANC. The DA is also in spirit a leftist party representing white neoliberal interests. So the GNU is actually closer to a centre left coalition.
