@@allencampbell1058Ricardo Lopez was a stalker who was obsessed with Björk and attempted to assassinate her after he found out that she was in a relationship with a black man which was “unacceptable” to him, so he began a video documentation on his 21st birthday in 1996 January 14th showing him preparing the assassination attempt by using a sulphuric acid spraying bomb that he would send off to Björk either killing her or severely injuring her, on his last day alive he shipped the package to her address and video taped his suicide and this was the last song he played and by the end of the song he shot himself in the head. The neighbours who lived in the same hotel could see blood leaking from under Ricardo’s room and the police found his 4 day old decomposing body, the police reviewed the tapes that Ricardo made and immediately intercepted the package from getting to Björks house and safely detonated the bomb. It sounds far fetched but it’s a true story and his video diaries including his final tape with his suicide are on the internet to this day

It’s more like empathizing with a casualty of hopeless insanity. Perhaps raging against any remorse for him on social media, somewhat implies that we fight the same monster that lies secure and dormant in us, the ‘normal’ people. But the fact that it exists in us, is what we find unsettling, and ‘not looking at Ricardo in any other way than a monster, is to suggest the madness in us, is just as volatile, and that we might slip and fall on the same treacherous road. To me, It’s a fight to not fall off the deep end for all of us. He fell.. unforgivable yes, but it’s ok to be sad for him.

As much as people might hate to admit it, while it's sad that Ricardo ended his life prematurely, it was ultimately his choice to do so. His life up to that point had shown him that the humanity was a cruel thing to be a part of. It's a world of monsters as he said repeatedly and that his fear of living outweighed his fear of dying. He had decided he wanted to die even before he started taping himself, he said he'd realized that he was staying alive for everyone else mostly his mother because he knew how much his death would destroy her. He attached himself to Bjork I guess because he felt pretending he had a relationship to her gave him some reason to keep living even if it was one sided. Then when she got with Goldie the illusion was broken and he lost the last thing that was tying him to this Earth. He was almost gleeful to finally be dying, in his last months he went about eating all his favorite foods with reckless abandon until they'd literally gotten boring to him, as a fellow fat guy I know how much being able to eat all foods worst for your health can be. He admitted shortly before killing himself that he figured the package would never really get to her, but he was happy to have at least managed to send it and felt accomplished in that fact. He may have not killed or even scathed Bjork, but the real thing he wanted more then anything was to be the biggest influence in her life. Well sorry to say it people but he succeeded. You know how much it freaked her out when she found out about him, and she's never going to forget it. People have even said that after the incident Bjork moved to another country and it had a profound impact on the style of her future music. But more important then that I think, he IS.. eternally connected with her. Almost no one is going to ever know about or be a fan of Bjork and not know about Ricardo Lopez, even if they try not to. As he said just before shooting himself. "Victory."
