the background music in desired constellations is actually a heavily edited and distorted vocal sample from one of her songs called “hidden place” from her album vespertine. i had no idea until recently

Personally this is my favourite Bjork record! The fact that everything is made from human voices including the percussion is just insane. An often overlooked album from her, but one that is wholly original. My fave track is Where is the Line, just for how menacing it sounds ( I’ve seen a lot of people say this is her worst song, which I’ve never been able to understand hahaha)

Finally~ Medulla is v special, it’s entirely made by human voices (except the piano in ancestors), even the ‘electronics’ in desired constellation are highly distorted voices of bjork, it’s actually a line bjork sings in Hidden Place of Vespertine. All the other elements in the album are human vocals, beatboxing, choir, throat singing, etc., sometimes being distorted a bit.

This! I think the only exception to this is there is one song, Ancestors I think, that has a very sparse piano with it.

Glad you enjoyed it! This is one of the most difficult Bjork albums to digest, it normally takes a few listens over a lengthy period of time to get appreciated. I love the same songs that you did (Desired Constellation, Where is the Line, Who is It, Triumph of a Heart) but my fave is Oceania. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Another honorable mention is Mouth's Cradle, that's a missed opportunity for a hit single imo

Did you get a chance to watch her concert live on October 24th? She performed alot of these songs live. She never toured the album but she has featured alot of the songs
