Her "old soul" was trying to hold her back, covering her eyes, weighing her down and trying to prevent her from moving forward. It was her "baggage" that she presented at the end.

i dont believe you understand anything, the dark character is sex or lust, and "can you spot a pattern" is what comes from wandering lust, maybe consequences...involving wandering lust (sex) happening, in this case happening over and over. till you realise.

I'm sorry, but this is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. I feel like Bjork and Bowie are 2 sides of the same coin; the masculine and feminine energies of changing and evolution. and, in doing so, being so ahead of the collective curve of other artists that have yet to catch up to them. I'm so glad and thankful we have them and the art they create.

I listened to this song like dozens of times but now I tried to understand what she's trying to tell. I think it's really about the madness of living in the cities. It's about giving up the connection to our neighbour: our nature, unopposedly. Also I understand from it that it needs healing to recover from this sickness. I would agree to her.

@Kerolas I love all the horn arrangements! Especially that trumpet line that's rhythmically "1... 3... 1, 2, 3 +, 4-trip-let- 1.....". It's so simple, but there's something very disjointed and awkwardly catchy about it. I guess it's kind of contrary to the rhythm of the electronic parts. Like it almost doesn't fit, in theory, but it's awesome. :)

i believe that the other person (the clay woman) represents her inner self that just wants to stay in one place, it is holding her back. whereas she just wants to be in a state of constant change. The giant face is itself the physicalisation of "wanderlust" and her constant desire to find something new and exciting

I am leaving this harbor Giving urban a farewell Its habitants seem too keen on god I cannot stomach their rights and wrongs I have lost my origin And I don't want to find it again Whether sailing into nature's laws And be held by ocean's paws Wanderlust, relentlessly craving Wanderlust, peel off the layers Until we get to the core Did I imagine it would be like this Was it something like this I wished for Or will I want more Lust for comfort Suffocates the soul Relentless restlessness Liberates me (sets me free) I feel at home Whenever the unknown surrounds me I receive its embrace Aboard my floating house Wanderlust, relentlessly craving Wanderlust, peel off the layers…

This video is nothing short of sensational and genius. I hope she was awarded a Grammy for best video on this? Anyways, it reminds me of early childhood memories, when mom took me to the bank. While she was busy at the teller, I was instructed to use the 'kids cinema': a table sized massive thing with binoculars. Then you pressed a button and a black & white trick-film would start with similarly weird creatures like this one...it actually spooked me a bit but made me all the more intrigued.

I simply love it. This is well done, I suppose you could call it.. Majestic. Good job.

This is insanely beautiful. I could go on and on about the interpretations I made from this video but the person holding her back the purple dead looking figure was her old self. It spawned from her back pack because what other tools do we have but our pasts to help us along the way? She couldn't have found what she was looking for without her old self but in the end had to show it who was boss and found the unknown she was searching for. Wanderlust.

Wow. This is so powerful. "I have lost my origin and I don't want to find it again" she sings as a drab figure appears behind her that she has to constantly battle and carry like a burden. To me this is a version of herself who wants to live the safe life. Notice how when she reaches the waterfall it's this part of her that stops herself throwing herself off in the pursuit of the wonderful. I can really relate the feeling of wanting to break out of the life that was being imagined for me from a young age and how you carry those expectations around with you for many years, constantly battling to assert the authentic version of me over the default version. Again I say wow. And this from what some consider to be Bjork's weakest album. What a song.

really, I think Björk was showing us how The Suni and Shiite can still get along besides their differences. Her yellow how and her two legs contrast starkly from the four legs and brown heads of the buffalo, and yet they manage to move together down the river, surviving its twists and turns. Really beautiful - you show us how we should act Björk!

My view on this is that she's traveling or running away from her problems, and maybe the humanlike creature in her backpack is her guilt or homesickness, a hindrance from her moving forward. But then life decides to fuck shit up for her and she finally accepts her conflicting feeling and therefore finds where she really wanted to be.
@gerryqq13 жыл бұрын
Maybe the animals she rides are her body, and at the end they tire and die, and the only things left are her and the clay woman in her backpack, who I think is all her culture and family and history. But she - or another aspect of her - made the path/river that she follows. The laughing demon is the physical or metaphysical universe, it doesn't matter really. At the end the hands she falls into are only her own.

Bjork tends to play with the idea that music doesn't have to be beautiful if it challenges you or make you think about what music means. She has a phenomenal voice, which can reach incredible beauty then dip into something almost primitive and raw.
