BJÖRN HÖCKE: After speech at the regulars' table - verdict expected against Thuringian AFD leader because of SA slogan
On Wednesday at 9 a.m., the Halle Regional Court will continue the trial against the Thuringian AfD leader Björn Höcke. The 52-year-old is accused of chanting the banned Nazi slogan "Everything for Germany" at an AfD get-together in Gera in December. This slogan was used by the SA, the NSDAP's paramilitary organization. The public prosecutor claims that Höcke uttered the first two words and encouraged the audience to complete the phrase with a hand gesture.
Höcke protests his innocence and stated at the start of the trial that he had not expected the audience to react in such a way. However, a video shows that the audience applauded after the slogan was completed and Höcke laughed.
Höcke had already used the same slogan at an election campaign event in Merseburg in May 2021 and was sentenced to a fine of 13,000 euros for it. However, this verdict is not final because Höcke has appealed. The current charge is "using symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations".
The court has not yet scheduled more than two days of hearings, which is why the closing arguments and a verdict are expected this Wednesday. In addition, historian Yves Müller has been called as an expert witness. Höcke's defense has announced further motions.
