Who'da thunk? I didn't expect a VOTOMS pixel art video, of all things. A very pleasant surprise to see one of my favorite real robot series get recognition in a niche like this. Unrelated: Fang of the Sun Dougram, VOTOMS author's previous work, was used as an inspiration for Battletech(e.g.: see the Shadowhawk mech). If Titanfall really did take inspiration from VOTOMS, I wouldn't be too surprised.

@BJGpixel4 жыл бұрын
Haha I can see that, probably the red jumpsuit! It'd actually be amazing to do a mash-up and colour the Scopedog suit like Kaneda's bike with all the stickers too 🤔 And yeah, I still struggle with shading as well. I find it easier to visualize for boxy shapes (like the mech suit), so it's a matter of applying a similar approach to more "organic" shapes

I know you have already touched this topic with this video and a lot of other videos, but do you mind if you can do a tutorial on various different robots. You could try doing some that are futuristic and that look like they could be from WW II. Also, do you know how to make arms look more defined when they are overlapping the body?
@theknight3344 жыл бұрын
I'm still catching up on the videos you've uploaded, but I'd love to practice some animation in the pixel medium. The game idea you presented reminds me of "Hardcore Mecha," but they went with a much more detailed medium and 3d style; some of there levels backgrounds blend too well with foreground and platforming.

Hey Brandon! Great videos. Really helpful for me in getting started with pixel art. I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil and have photoshop experience, but this is the first time I've used it for pixel art. I'm having trouble understanding some of the basics of how to replicate lines and work more quickly. Are you using the marquee tool to copy and past lines and shapes inside of individual layers without affecting the background layer? Also are you using the marquee tool on selections and then filling those selections with color? Thanks in advance and hope this question makes sense.

@TheAgentAPM4 жыл бұрын
I mean that his farther leg suggests that it should be a sort of mesh blend between the leg and cap, making the other look quite cutoff. Especially that you've recorded how you sheared the front leg to expose the farther more. I think the contrast is too high to consider it a cap flap by the first glance.
