The one thing they all had in common was that kind of innate, curious intelligence that cared more about problem solving than it did that day's victory in practice.

The golden rules of grappling- "Be the guy on top- when on top, stay on top. #2: when on bottom have a guard you shall not pass. #3 Never forget rule #1 easily forgotten due to the seductive and rewarding nature of non striking grappling." Love your videos- thanks for putting these out! Liked and shared!

20 mins of pure gold right here. REAL jiu-jitsu! I think this video should be required for everyone about to receive their blue belt.

My favorite quote in this video was from Henry Akins. Near the end, he said " I knew if I put enough time into the basics...". He was absolutely correct. As a Chuck Norris UFAF black belt from the old school, I can attest that infinite repetitions of the most basic techniques coupled with a thorough comprehension of them is a recipe for success. There exists no path to success without hard work. Boxers are a good example of that recipe. They work to obtain high fitness levels and use the same punches in a myriad of combinations. A truly sweet and basic science it is.

One of the best videos I’ve watched was Prof Matt showing the the details of the trap and roll while mounted. It’s the small details that are making the difference for me instead of going to seminars to be wowed by the newest flying worm berimbolo pinky toe lock. Thank you Sirs 👍

Great video as expected! Love that quote about John Diggins:"...."he cares less about winning in the gym than he does just learning...let people try stuff..." that is the way to go😉. Greetings from Germany and keep up the good work.

This is great and it helps me see what I kind of felt was wrong with the places I've been training at. They don't teach the fundamentals, they don't teach why, and it also feels like everyone just wants to beat each other, and its so focused on sport. I didn't get into Jiu Jitsu for sport, and it is fun, but it is too easy to get caught up in. I really want to learn the fundamentals but I'm not sure where to train to get it. Anyone know a place like this in NYC? Obviously not right now because of the pandemic, but when things do get back to normal

Learning to subtly adjust techniques is really hard without a teacher. I loved "people give up the basics to quickly" part by Henry. I was like that, tried moving onto leg locks at white belt level. I'm kinda of an idiot I know realize.

If possible, I'd like to know Matt's current opinion on jkd. Does he still think it's a viable striking art in liue of things like muay Thai and boxing.

Michael James I’ve heard that rickson is a myth
@realitywithmj43345 жыл бұрын
@@korranis1 if you see his fights from japan it appeared as though his fights were hand picked like royce gracie´s first fights to get bjj famous. rickson was good of course but not a complete fighter like ruas.
@johnrogers10385 жыл бұрын
Michael James perhaps, Ruas was a total beast. And if he beat Rickson the myth would have been shattered. But sooner or later a wrestler or kickboxer could have beat Ruas, then a bjj practitioner could have beat the guy that beat Ruas. I think fighting, like life and indeed the universe, operates in cycles. Balance is the key.

Pros of jiu jitsu : • Realistic self defense (regardless of natural athleticism.) • No head trauma • Phenomenal exercise/ Mental clarity. Cons : All the Goddamned talking- I swear jiu jiteiros or bjj practitioners spend so much class time talking. I get cold just watching this. Even though I love bjj I just can’t stand the long-windedness of the instructors, even if I like them omg.
