Thank you Rick for spend time to make this video you really made my day !! . I’m 53 years old and I’m just promoted to blue belt but many times I been in that position that you showed in the video with young guys and my Gas been out and is very uncomfortable felling . Now I will utilize that technique that you showed in the video and I know that will make different. Once again thank you very much brother and hopefully meet you one day.

The ribs in the solar plexus from top side control is like a knee on belly, but much lower center of gravity. Nice!

I’m 27 but I love your content! Bc of past injuries and to prevent future ones, I try to limit my game to less explosive movements and also focus on smooth movements. I switched to an old guy game after about 4 years into training. I was pretty good (humble brag) but I was always getting hurt. I had enough and finally decided to only roll hard once per week and would only drill and flow roll with certain partners the rest of week. Huge difference! I can finally train for more than a few months at a time. I also play a lot of half guard, and focus on control and pressure from top. So yeah, I identify as an old guy 😂 to anyone, if you are younger, athletic, 200lbs plus,etc like I am, don’t feel pressured to go hard or keep up with the meat heads. a lot of guys will want to prove themselves to you especially if you look look like a meathead. Always be ready to tap, only go more than 70% once in a while, and say no to rolls with dickheads or someone who can’t chill. That’s just what I’ve learned. Thanks again Rick ! I’ll see you around SD one of these days

Huge huge fan! My daughter and I started a day apart and on this amazing journey together. She’s 12 I’m 42 blue belt and she’s yellow white, we’ve come so far from day one. These seminars you have sounds like jitsu Heaven. We’re on this together but she’s not an old dog like me and we both want a once in a lifetime opportunity. Professor Rick is there a way we could join a seminar together ? We’re in Honolulu and an opportunity to do one of these is once in a lifetime, hey you went to the Netherlands’ when is Hawaii on your list?🙏 but we’d fly to so-cal if my bubs can come along. Btw your and your student’s jiu jitsu is sooooo fluid love your school

That pressure you are showing - we had a visiting black belt from Europe who did that to me just without hand/fist under my back, he was controlling the hip. I could not escape and after 2 minutes it felt horribly heavy!

The idea to put pressure while you are in low position is one of my "goal" to achive, but when I tell this idea, normally people say it's impossible... tnks for the example

Safe travels, enjoy Holland and perhaps on your next visit I can help assemble a group of older practitioners for a seminar here in Amsterdam. Regards, Andrew

Actually, l think the hard underneath the and applied pressure will definitely slow them down. It should feel more like a compression choke similar to the one Josh Barnett placed on Dean Listen who hadn’t been tapped for 16 years prior to their match. I’m an over 45 year old grappler so l’m definitely going to add this to my grappling arsenal. Coach AL

The professor is doing a compression choke which actually is a lung choke. It’s similar to the lung choke that Joush Barnett choked Dean Listen with. Dean Listen hadn’t been submitted in 16 years prior to Josh applied the technique. It’s kinda part of the invisible Jujitsu that Blacks know.

Scheduling conflicts this year, but if you put out notice for next year soon enough I'll probably make it. And pressure and connection (attachment) from bottom is something I have been aware of and work on, but any help with it is greatly appreciated.

Rick, ball your hand into a fist and place it underneath their back like your stabbing the ground. A flat hand disperses too much pressure. 9:29

Can you effectively crossface while still exerting that top pressure on the solar plexus, or does one take pressure away from the other?
@TheArtofSkill
@TheArtofSkill 7 ай бұрын
You’ll end up relieving some pressure to get a deep cross face.

So, at 3:58, I tell people to rotate the thumb down, which engages the lats and makes it very difficult for the top person to jack up the arm for the choke. Or you can give them a little ride in the buggy - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaanppuOfNx4hKcsi=vsDq6iIhIfesmLMA
@TheArtofSkill
@TheArtofSkill 7 ай бұрын
That's definitely stronger if your arm isn't anchored because it engages the biceps, but if you're grabbing the lat or belt you can make a very strong lever regardless. You can definitely go to the buggy from there too.
