Best breakdowns, for sure. You have helped my striking and grappling games elevate with your videos and I don't have to work on anything, the increased knowledge/understanding just helps my approach, so the improvement is immediate. I am deeply grateful.

I'm glad you decided to start this channel I really love your breakdowns and the fact there are people willing to share their knowledge with others. it's a real treat being able to watch fighters in real time and know what they're doing and why considering its pretty hard to pick it apart in real time only seeing it once like most of us do. Even if we train lol. so again thanks its a great channel.

Love how the last video was partly about how Maia switches passes to trick you then you open with a Brian Stann line about how Maia says tricking people is less important than the fundamentals.
@jasonjayalap4 жыл бұрын
Stann said “tricks are not” (that is, latest gimmick), not “tricking (people) is not”.

I'm impressed! To figure out the dynamic of "invisible force" and yielding to opponents by shifting hips and alternating base is nothing short of incredible. If you truly didn't come up learning these principles and discovered them through research that's astounding. Incredible video. Lastly I just say, these principles are core to Jiu Jitsu, and everyone should be learning them at their home academy. If not, then it is not real Jiu Jitsu,

Remember, too, that all the single-leg X people you mentioned were all, or at one point, students of John Danaher/Renzo Gracie: Eddie Cummings, Rory MacDonald, Gunnar...I think it would serve well to look at the commonalities of them all as a possible answer to the leg lock phenomenon coming from Eddie/Garry Tonon/Gordon Ryan. I think it would be a cool video. Maybe Maia has a good answer to that.

@BJJSCOUT8 жыл бұрын
hmm, well Brock v Hunt = heavy weight version of Condit v Maia heh, striker v grappler....gameover if either one can impose their game...i'm neutral but in general im always siding with the grappler in style v style

I was always wondering why doesn't Maia put shoulder pressure on the guys jaw in reverse half guard. You would think you would have less control in mma. I'm really curious why he doesn't do this. You would think its riskier doing it his way because you could give up your back. Maybe this is one of those techniques that don't work as well for the lighter guys since D.M. is a welterweight..just wondering what other people think about it..

+Jason Sieckmann I'll cover it but more in terms of when to use... I don't really do instructional videos tbh... More like overall strategy and decision making... Might be easier to watch the how to guides on Yt, some good ones free online...
@Jenovasreunion8 жыл бұрын
+BJJSCOUT oh no, that's all I wanted was the where and when. I'm extremely familiar with all of the aforementioned guards. Mainly, I'm concerned with your outlook on what you feel is truly effective. There are a lot of theorists out there without data
@nfriedman358 жыл бұрын
awesome! maybe slow it down on the very key points
@BJJSCOUT8 жыл бұрын
+Nick Friedman like slow motion? Or longer pauses
@nfriedman358 жыл бұрын
i would decrease speed by 50% on the ones where positions are shifted like where a leg is placed into elevator so we get a clearer sense of where things are going. then on the the pauses I would hold longer and animate the arrows so that the directions make a bigger impact (nothing more than same arrows you currently use moving along the path they're on or circles narrowing their circumfrence). this is all minor criticism though. these videos are spectacular!!

hi in the description below in all my vids...
@richardleonhard39718 жыл бұрын
Why is it called "reverse half guard"? I don't train so this may sound stupid. I get that it's not traditional half guard but it doesn't seem reversed.
@BJJSCOUT8 жыл бұрын
well typically half guard you are looking at the person, looking for crossfaces. So in reverse your back is turned, your legs are also angled/pointing towards the person's legs. It's just bjj nomenclature, to help break up the positions. There are others like reverse mount, reverse scarf hold etc etc...its confusing i guess if you dont get into the whole bjj terminology....u can YT a few vids on reverse half guard to learn more
@MachoMaster8 жыл бұрын
Because you are sitting on your other hip. So instead of your chest pointing at your opponent, it's your back.
