They always said Bjork was ahead of her time. If you listen, at about 3.53, she accidentally invented dubstep. Glad you like her, that voice is incredible.😁

I literally got chills when that bassline first drops in the second chorus and you were vibing hard to it. In that moment the bassline + beats + strings + her voice come together so beautifully

The lyric from this song "I feel emotional landscapes they puzzle me" are written on the walls as you arrive at the main terminal at Reykjavik airport in Iceland. Once you start to explore Iceland, you see how much that line resonates with both the landscape you see and how it makes you feel.

ICYDK: Joga was the nickname of a friend of hers (future politician Johanna Johannsdottir) Producers: Bjork and Mark Bell Musical detail: 1. The lyric is adapted from a Sjon poem. Originally it had a third verse (which she sings in her 1997 episode of The South Bank Show). 2. Most of the orchestrating on the album was by Eumir Deodato - but "orchestrating" is the key word: the only song he claimed start-to-finish arranging credit for was Hunter. So, string charts like this one are Bjork ideas which would only have needed fine-tuning. Twenty-three years later those string-section opening bars are even more shiver-inducing, right!

Bjork produces everything. She’ll bring on another to collab on certain songs, but she has her hand in EVERYTHING and is militant how she wants it done lol

Joga is so interesting, there's a documentary about this album and b asically she tried to make this a mix of Icelandic traditional music and instruments. The music and video tried to make "emotional landscapes" like the lyrics said. Her vocal style is more traditional Icelandic talking style singing and the drum sounds are based on volcano and tectonic plate sounds. Her newest album Utopia did this more with an Icelandic flute group she used to be part of and they even did old songs in the style to match live tours.

Not that long ago--for me, anyway! LOL. "Joga" was the first single off her album Homogenic from 1997. A big hit in her native Iceland, and in other parts of the globe, but the US was slow to get on-board. The album peaked at #28 on Billboard. I remember one video from this album, the song "Bachelorette", which blew my mind.

There was a documentary I watched (so long ago) and it covered how she creates songs, what inspires her. At that time she was synthesizing whale sounds, under ocean sounds. ETA: Yes, it showed the orchestra/symphony in the studio. I was hooked.
