I was 17 in 1997, and just got a scholarship from my country Kuwait to study in Japan, left to Japan and there I entered tower records in Shibuya and listened to this song and bought the CD immediately, till this day I listen to it like its 1997.

I remember growing up in the 90s, she was brave enough to be herself, be creative and evolve her music. Because she was being different the media/chart/music shows would completely ridicule her a LOT. When you listen to a bjork song, you honestly couldn’t tell if it was released in the 90s or right now….that’s how far ahead she was with her music. She put her critics to shame.

I had a friend show me her videos about 6 months ago and I keep coming back to listen to her. He had thought and told me this music came out within the last few years and I believed him too. We literally thought this was new stuff. Both of us are very avid music enthusiasts too, I listen to all kinds of music.

Really? I grew in the same era and although I seem to remember people thought she was brilliant even back then. The gossip media certainly had a field day with her, but when it comes to music I feel like Bjork has always been thought of as incredibly influential and ahead of her time. Madonna wanted to work with her. Peter Jackson wanted her to sing the end theme to the second Lord of the Rings movie. She wasn't languishing in obscurity waiting to be appreciated 30 years later, that's for sure.

Like how fame and the greed of the industry takes a toll on her, you get chewed and spit out, it all repeats itself, she's trapped, and in the end shes back in nature, where she belongs. I think the comments don't praise enough the song itself. This is a real epic timeless masterpiece here, and one of my favourite songs ever. Hi, I really love this song. Even when I didn't know lyrics (English isn't my first language). And now that I've read the lyrics, I still don't fully understand its meaning Could you tell me your interpretation of the lyrics of this song? I would appreciate it very much
@poesie_paienne
@poesie_paienne 3 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethstre1686 Hi, I must admit I'm not really sure of its meaning as the lyrics are quite mysterious and English is also not my first language, but here is my interpretation : First, this song is the sequel to the song Isobel, which is on the album Post ( which is itself the sequel to Human Behaviour I think ), and who narrates the adventures of a girl named Isobel, born in an isolated forest. She lives alone until a big city emerges and she discovers a New life. I think then that the title " Bachelorette " refers to the loneliness of Isobel before going to the city. So, in " Bachelorette ", Isobel arrives to the city ( that's why the instrumentation sounds like a train ) and discovers a whole new world. She's really excited ( that's why she says " I'm a fountain of blood in the shape of a girl " ) because she discovers new sides of herself, like her sexuality. I think this song is an expression of everything Isobel feels in the city, she's " hypnotized by the whirl ", as she said in the song. At the end of the song, I think she probably returns to the forest, that's why we hear an accordion, and the sequel to this song is " Alarm Call ", where we can see in the video Isobel back in the forest, testing her boundaries and limits after her experience in the city. I think the story of Isobel is related to Björk, who was born in Iceland but then moved to London and discovered a new world. That remains my own intepretation, as I think many interpretations are possible, I hope it will be useful to you :)

A work of art. 👍 Tells the story in just a few minutes as if it were an entire film. There is a metaphysical intelligence spread in every minimal detail of the image. A beauty of rare charm! /... The music sounds, curiously, a bit like certain theme songs from 1970s crime dramas... 💙

The video is actually extremely dark on an apocalyptic level. When the publisher falls out of love, all books are unwritten and all people and buildings get devoured by the bushes and the trees. The city turns into a forest with the empty book buried deep inside the ground, until she finds it again while digging and everything repeats itself in an infinite loop.

This is the first time ive heard this song (i dont get out much) and its f-g brilliant. God i love Bjork. I bought her records in the 90's but she scares me a bit. Every time i see her and listen to her voice at the same time i get this weird feeling in my heart like a jump or a squeeze. Its weird. She is fascinating to me but i dont know why. i totally understand how crazy people can obsess about her. Anyway i dont like feeling crazy/weird so i dont watch alot of her videos but im glad youtube sent me here to watch this. Great song. Thankyou Bjork you living legend and slightly supernatural deity.

It's funny i can see how she would intimidate guys. As a girl she spoke to my inner self. I could always find lyrics that i could relate to. I can see though as a man, looking from the outside at this beautiful fiery creature how they could be intimidated. To me it was empowering.
@alexc6324

@@abandonedmuse Yes i see that, i dont feel intimidated as such (intimidate seems like a favourite word from the tv nowadays though) but she scares me because she makes me feel a bit crazy. i like her too much and in a way that i dont like any other celeb. i could easily obsess over her. I think she is the most powerful woman in entertainment in some ways and i can only describe her as slightly supernatural. A beautiful fiery creature is a good description, I sometimes like playing with fire but its always a mistake.

@@abandonedmuse yes but i dont know the details, and dont want to know, but i think thats the thing about her, she is so incredible its easy to go crazy over her. My original comment was meant to marvel at her and at her slightly super human qualities but i dont want to start a conversation about mental people and weirdness. I just wonder what is it that makes her so special. Its not really her looks or just her voice, it must be something else.

@@samanthajones87886you act as an ignorant person. First, there is much 'artsy' metal music, especially in its progressive/avant-guarde/exptreme subgenres. Check out maudlin of the well, for example. Metal is not just Metallica, you know? Second, Bjork is not that experimental/avant-guarde. It's more like creative art pop. Her music videos were on MTV, come on. If something is on MTV, it's not avant-guarde. You'll never hear experimental metal music on MTV. I guess that's why you don't know much about metal.
