Thx for the retest Bjorn. Yes, agreed, 3 points seems fair enough. That blue square should pop up when the car is fully ready, and no further action from the driver needed. Poor alignement in the front when it went on the gras. Touching the sidewalk with the wheel when paralell parking, not that great.

The weird stuff about going forward for starting the autoparking, the lack of accuracy finding available parking spots and the level of stress avoiding to scratch the nice and expensive Audi rims, doesn't worth the use of this Audi "technology". I cannot understand how Toyota can do better autoparking system than "premium" cars like this. Not reliable or useful enough. Clearly Audi doesn't care about this feature. Great job and great video Bjørn 👍 👍, showing how these cars works in the real life.

I went from a 2018 BMW X3 to a 2023 Q8 E-Tron. The autoparking in the BMW was great. 90% of the time i had to park the BMW i used the autopark. The system in the Audi Q8 E-Tron is rubbish. I never use it and got back used to parking myself.

thanks for doing the retest, this is going above & beyond... but I'm still with you that this is totally unintuitive, I'm trying to park & pay attention to surroundings, not read tiny text on the screen that is way too long

It’s the same with VW that you need to drive a bit forward. For best results, don’t try to drive so close to parked cars, those sensors see quite far. And with normal row parking, once it finds the spot, steer away to more centre of the aisle to give it space. This way it can park straight in.

The first time I experienced autopark was in a Ford Focus rental, something like ten years ago. The car did the steering while the driver operated clutch and throttle, and it worked much better than this. So much for Vorsprung durch Technik.

Test the Lexus RZ auto parking. Ours will parallel park or nose in to a space or back into a space. It works very well once you understand it.

With the cameras, the sensors, the alignment lines its easy to park as it is, which makes this feature a bit useless. I never use it on my etron GT.

It seems the Audi use the same system the KIA I drove for a while. That system in the KIA will sacrifice all your rims to align with the surrounding cars.

You still don't seem to get it. If you drice in a city passing by possible parking slots, you drive at a decent speed to not bother the traffic behind you. So, when a free spot pops up, you will need some leeway to actually stop. This is why the blue square pops up first, then the filled blue square emerges while you stop. In real life, the car will never have to drive further. Either this, or you get a parking assist which is worthless in a true city ...

Ahhaha typical Audi! Software sucks beyond imagination!!! These days less experienced automakers (Rivian, Tesla, Nio…) offers more and more closer driving dynamics experience AND they have good software!…not sure Audi can afford continuing with such outdated software plus their interior and exterior outdated look… starting to get boring!
