I think the rear drum brakes is a really smart idea.
@MacBaerFFM4 жыл бұрын
@Richard Wood the only downside with drum brakes that come to my mind could be overheating. In my former fossil PSA, the dealer said that most of the brake work is done by the front brakes, the rear brakes are only for stabilising the car during braking. Now with the ID, we have regen and lower top speeds, I reckon that the car doesn't push the drums to their limit. Steep slope in the mountains would be interesting here, but I'm sure that regen also helps here to keep the stress on the rear brakes low. So yes, this design by VW is indeed absolutely acceptable.

It is the same in other VW cars with buttons. Some buttons light up when they are off. I have been driving a VW for while with their new touch screens. But was still a bit confused using the ID.3 screen when test driving. Hopefully we will get used to it when we get our ID.3 and had it a week or two.
@jonasrosengren90934 жыл бұрын
Your consumption tests are very good. Do you also compare the energy you consume with what you charge to reach the same SoC? Another thought, it would be very interesting to know what EV's consume in typical city traffic. This is where the benefit should be as its greatest as compare to fossil cars - regenerative braking plus no motor idling...
@kasmopaya26764 жыл бұрын
Apart from the price, the rear drum brakes for the ID.3 are a very pleasant surprise. No rust, no maintenance, just superior. I don't really understand this thing of having bigger and bigger wheels in cars. You get more road-noise and harshness and the wheels/tyres are more expensive. In return you get.... what? Sportier handling? Do we need that in a family car? I know that we appreciate less noise and more comfort all the time, but we don't really need nor appreciate sporty handling when driving down a motorway or driving in cities. We don't drive winding country roads so often that it makes sense to pick our wheels for that use-case.
