Exactly,that’s how I felt about BJU ...the writing section was a little basic for a 5th and a 4th grader. So I will follow ur advice.

I found the your assessment of this curriculum to be spot on for us as well. We are using BJU English 4 (used grade 3 last year) and it is working great. The writing is ok....not great. We’ll switch to IEW Level A next year. My older son used BJU Grammar and Writing Grade 8 and it was a mess...However, he’s off to a private high school this year and getting an A so far in Honors English. He must have learned something. 😂 Thanks for the honest reviews. I’ll be checking out Fix Grammar as well for my youngest next year.

We can't use Abeka spelling it was to hard for my son. So I had to go to Bju and it was easier for him. He has ADHD and gets frustrated easily. He is very overwhelmed with that Abeka curriculum.

I would move on to something more hands-on like All About Spelling, that may be something that would keep his attention more as it is less worksheet oriented and more tactile.

Hi, BJU Press and Abeka both offer online lesson formats if that's more what you're looking for.

It was funny to see a pic of our Sydney Opera House on the cover of a book with American spelling :)~ Now, if only we could teach Americans to spell ‘centre’, ‘neighbour’ etc properly! Just kidding 😜😜😁 Love your channel by the way.

Wow! Thats a complete curriculum. The phonics theme sounds like the way Multiplication Tales dvd’s taught.

Hello! I have a question. You mentioned that you did BJU English 4 and BJU English 5 at the same time for your children. My son is in 5th grade now but I just started BJU English last year for my children and he completed English 3. I started him off with English 3 (when he was supposed to be in 4th grade) because I thought he would be missing out. I bought English 4 for him this year but I’m afraid that he will get behind in English. Do you think it would be a bad idea to skip English 4 and go straight to English 5? I’ve noticed that they do some review in the lessons. Thanks!

Hi, I think I would direct your question to BJU Press, it's been a few years since we did their English. I do remember grades 4&5 being fairly similar, but I would still ask them and see what they recommend.

Priscia, what did you end up doing? Did you have your son skip English 4 and go straight to English 5? I am thinking of doing this too for my son. If you did, how did it work out?

Yeah I agree, the BJU characters for phonics seems like too much. We are currently doing All about Reading and love it!! Thanks for ur awesome review!! (liked and subscribed ♡♡ :)

We’re currently using BJU for 2nd grade and I HATE their phonics. It’s so confusing to my son, so I end up just teaching him the facts. The phonics is part of their reading program, not English.

Thank you so much for sharing! This review was really helpful. Do you think it could work without the teacher's manual for 3rd grade?
@erica_arndt7 жыл бұрын
Um, probably. There are instructions on the top of each student worksheet and since 3rd grade is pretty easy I think you could figure it out. But I like to have the TMs just in case :)

We're on BJU 10th grade writing/grammar and literature, as well as their 4th grade book for my youngest. These are great books. The high school books are more intense, but since they follow the same plan as elementary the kids find them easy to understand.
