hey joe thanks for the tutorial, i just realised how important the hip turn is when throwing the left body punch. with a good hip turn it loads up your right leg for good transition into the lowkick or right side techniques.

My favorite punch, it seems despite the violence has a lot of beauty and can put down a giant. You´re assistant has some mexican style power hooks.

Hey Joe, you have the best instructional video's! I wanted to know the difference of a shovel hook and hook. I have learned the mechanics of them both, but I have not heard instruction of when it is best to use which one. My thought are the height of the opponent is a factor. Do you have a video on this subject?

Coach Ron Helping To Heal The shovel = liver shot, hence left at a 45% angle. (Liver being under the ribcage on the right )

This is great, though i was noticing you kept your front foot quite stable when throwing the hook and turned your back more, while I have been taught the opposite?
@Eepi8d4 жыл бұрын
sjewitt22 The idea behind this is not to pivot your lead leg while throwing body hooks or hooks in general because it opens up the rear lowkick for your partner and makes you harder to continue your combos with kicks if you get my meaning. Pivoting sometimes have its place and time especially in boxing. i hope this helps

Tbh fair I’ve noticed canelo uses the back foot and keeps his lead foot flat I’ve been trying it recently u can get more leverage and have better balance when u do it on the rear foot

Can you explain why dont you twist or pivot the foot when you land the left hook to the body?
@evgeniantelo96974 жыл бұрын
I am a subscriber and I think you're the best as far as kickboxing instruction on youtube but if I can give a little bit of a constructive criticism it's that sometimes that the combinations you show are too long. What I mean by that, the longer your combos are the more susceptible you're to counters. Most of the successful strikers in the world whether in boxing, kickboxing or mma do not throw long combinations of punches and kicks. Only exception that comes to mind is Pacquiao and because of his speed and timing it's hard for a fighter to punch in between his punches. He is an anomaly though and an exception. I think any combination longer than 4 punches unless your opponent in front you is done or really not at your level is an exaggeration and your defensive responsibility drops with every subsequent punches you throw.

Are u moving ur head to the left after throwing the cross and throw hook to the body?Or ur head is in the centre line?
@michadebicki65345 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need to do a small bob, bend a little bit to the left, move your head away from the countering zone and then punch. It's important because without this weight transfer to the left you won't generate so much power and the head must be moved away from the potential right hand punch from the opponent. Hope that this will help.
@ko-kf2nu5 жыл бұрын
@@michadebicki6534 why not just load the lead leg by pivoting the right?Canelo,micky ward all greatest body punchers threw them without any slipping.You can watch canelo vs fielding.So tell me?
@michadebicki65345 жыл бұрын
@@ko-kf2nu yes, I watched this fight carefully. He is slightly moving his head to the side from which the punch will be thrown. But he is doing it in a so subtle way to avoid giving away and sygnalising his punches. World level subtle differences. Basic technique is the way i described above, world class level fighters can do it as they like. There's much more strategy, subtle adjustments, angles, experience and so on involved on such high level than just going after most correct technique. Canelo is so good body puncher he can do whatever he wants at whatever angle and still it works.
@ko-kf2nu5 жыл бұрын
@@michadebicki6534 So what trying to say?Should i slip my head or throw from a uprigt position?Is there any wrong if i just load my leg by pivoting right leg?Or just slip and throw?
@michadebicki65345 жыл бұрын
@@ko-kf2nu you should find what works best for you. Textbook technique shall be done with slip, transfering bodyweight to the left (you can do small pivot anyway for best results) and then punching at tight angle (don't load this punch with moving elbow backwards or away from your body, remember - keep your game tight. Just move to the left with not too big slip, little bit more than half of the glove width is just enough, bend your left knee, small pivot with right foot, drop your glove, elbow still glued to your body and punch while rotating bodyweight to the right with left pivot, hip and shoulder rotation to use all that accumulated weight on the left leg) This way I was able to knock down opponents during my amateur matches and hard sparrings with single well placed liver shot alone. Train it on the heavy bag with this instruction, you will soon feel how powerfoul this punch can be when thrown this way.

Do I pivot the lead foot when I throw the liver shot?
@timdonald5424 жыл бұрын
It is a front foot planted, rear foot pivot style of lead hook as you can see at 2:05. You can shift your weight back on to your rear foot and pivot on your front foot like a conventional lead hook, but the liver is much farther away than the chin in a conventional stance, so you will be potentially moving yourself out of range to land the liver shot and taking away the upward angle you need to dig to the liver. A rear foot pivot style of lead hook, as demonstrated, is also a quicker set up for multiple lead hooks or a right low kick than the also valuable front pivot style. You should practice both, they both have their uses.
