So helpful! Thank you for also mentioning that 'near me' search because we've been having issues with it. My friend, a wedding venue owner was at the property and he was testing to see the competition. So he typed in 'wedding venues near me' and his property wasn't showing up. He does have a Google Business Profile for the property. We don't know where to look and try fixing it. If you have any leads, I'll appreciate it!

Need some help man... When I login into Google Ads, it automatically puts me through creating an Ad Campaign. I tried everything, but I just can't get to the homepage of Google Ads. Do I actually need to run a paid campaign first??

It will require you to set up an ads account, but you don't need to run an ad in order to access the tools. You may just need to go to the little settings icon or an icon that says "appearance" at the top right and click "advanced view" in order to see the keyword planner tool. :)

You'll most likely need to give it your website, but you don't have to actually "run" a campaign or spend any money if that makes sense.

@@Blessed-hb2of look for a small link that says something like “Switch to Expert Mode” (usually at the bottom of the page). After switching to Expert Mode, you’ll see an option that says “Create an account without a campaign”. Select this option.

As far as I know, there is no way to customize buttons on a Google Ad.

Great question! A location does have to be selected to see results, but I would just suggest the main country your business serves, or default it to the United States.

@@Bkacontent i found i can add 10 countries in google keyword planner - but after checking one site - the results are zero on other sites after ... so a big it seems. as a small business owner i know who my competitors are and who the clients are and locations byt no way have i been able to zero in of good keywords - so i use chatghy topical authority now to "guess"

One thing you can try in Google Keyword Planner is to go to Discover New Keywords > Start with a website. You could then put your competitor sites in there and get some keyword data.

One thing you can try is to click on the account icon top right, and then delete the current ads account. Then click the account icon again and select "Create a new Google Ads account" and try the process again, looking for a "skip campaign setup" option. Sometimes this works, and sometimes it doesn't as far as letting you create an account without inserting billing details. Adding your billing details will not charge you however, as long as you don't run a campaign.

This is upcoming for the latest version... facing the same problems earlier when you clicke on create an account only it directly landed up on the home page but it asks you to input payment method

Yes, Google may ask you to input payment data, but they won't charge you anything unless you run a campaign. Using the Keyword Planner is completely FREE to use once you are able to access your ads account. :)

Unfortunately that is not the case anymore, Google will ask for a £10 (in the UK) authorisation fee even if you don’t actually publish a campaign. They say they will remove the charge in a week, but it just makes the system impossible to use for students and similar people who just want to access the keyword planner for projects.

That is frustrating. However, one way to look at this is even if they charge you a one time fee of $10 to use this tool, that still makes this tool cheaper than anything else out there that charges you monthly or even annually to use. :)

You have to have a google ads account. Simply go to ads.google.com and log in using your Google account. They may require a small transaction to verify and set up your bank, but using it is completely FREE as you don't have to run an ad campaign to use Google Keyword Planner. Hope this helps. Thanks!

Adsense is different from the Google Ads Platform. While the Google Ads Platform may require you to put payment information in, it is FREE to use. You don't have to pay for a campaign - BUT you may have to have them verify your payment data before you can access the account.

Great video, thanks. I thought I was using the tool wrong, so I viewed your video. But it turns out Google is a big turd and I wasn't using it wrong. It lets me make an ad campaign in my gun holster niche so they will take my money, but it won't return keyword ideas. It only gives me data only for the keywords I input. Also, if I try to use just a website it won't return any results for websites that sell holsters or anything else related to firearms.

Yeah, Google does get picky with certain industries when it comes to what data they will show. This is where paid tools like Semrush and Ahrefs can really help you to find the keywords people search for in that industry without hiding it from you.
