It's great to see you and your father spending time together! One bit of advice from an old head. TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN FROM YOUR FATHER. My dad could do just about anything, and I REALLY wish I would have paid more attention through the years, so that I would have more of those skills. I lost him in December to COVID 19, and it's a void that will never be filled. He had three tractors, and I don't know how to use a tractor, which is pretty well inexcusable. He built two houses from the ground up, and I can barely nail two boards together. Cherish the moments, and really learn from his wisdom.

You’re right about getting skills now. My father just died, he knew tons of how to do things. He knew to do just about anything. I inherited most everything including the Rokon, I know it will feel weird for a little bit because I’m used to riding a dirtbike.

Nice that you get the whole Rokon concept. Lots of naysayers who love to badmouth them that don’t know what they’re talking about. There are a lot of people who love them. Big rub is the price but made in the USA and fills a unique niche market. Worth it in my view as they are useful and a lot of fun.

Many accessories available from the company. They even make a trailer designed specifically for pulling behind this machine.

That Rokon setup with the roller might be good for grooming snow bike routes. A good firm base is best for riding in snow. I'm not sure if you get any at the property but if you did, that should work. For best results, allow trail to firm up for 12 hours before shredding as long as temps remain below freezing.

Dude that thing is amazing. As a bloke who grew up riding dirt bikes I’d be standing up on that thing for the tough stuff and inclines (not sure if you were or not already). Hang on tight and adjust your weight front or back as need be. Sorry if you were already doing that. That trailer is pretty awesome. My concern is the mattock the way it’s positioned and the handle of the tools may rub on the tyre with a heavy load and the tyres compressed.

That crafty little trailer needs to find some good takeoffs from a side by side. With a set of adapter hubs you could probably get it to sit about level with the bigger tires. And then a seatbelt for when you are towing each other around. haha
@mattspen3 жыл бұрын
Love the Rokon! I have looked into getting one of these. I use a dirtbike, with light throttle control, to groom the trails at our ranch but I wish I had fat tires for less passes. There are single wheel trailers that could haul dirt. I’ve used single wheel WeeHoo 2 seater trailer pulled by eBike to haul 2 5-gallon buckets of water around the trails. The trick is getting the buckets off the trailer without tipping the bike 🤣
@mattspen3 жыл бұрын
... every winter the freeze/thaw cycle tends to reclaim the trails or make them raise up and slower, several slower dirt bike passes each spring and then a rain storm and the trails are perfect! With Rokon size tires, it would only take one pass to smash down the freeze/thaw effects and hoofs

for quick runs on the property down the trails you should check out a Kaabo Wolf Warrior its all electric still 2wd but much more nimble at 103lbs. I have one and take it on single track mountain bike trails all the time and have yet to find somewhere I could not go with it.
@nmnate3 жыл бұрын
I think after you dump the bike a couple times with the trailer attached, you'll realize that a 4 wheeler would have been a little easier. They're pretty good off road. Plus you'd need width for the trailer anyway...
@Multipotentialitis3 жыл бұрын
He likes spending money
@mattspen3 жыл бұрын
Agreed on stability. Currently the trails aren’t wide enough, and I bet those ones will stay narrow and only use the Rokon. My bet is the trailer is to generally move tools on his access road and perhaps an access trail or some wider flow trails but not all trails. Motorbike is one my favorite tools on the trails at our ranch, it breaks down animal hoofs or helps wear in new trail. We also have mounts for tools on our dirtbikes. I wish I had a Rokon though!
@NevadaSmith23 жыл бұрын
No way man. Quads really don’t work for building advanced single track. My best family friends own a 275 acre mtb ranch (has about 36 gnar trails, full enduro moto loop, and XC trails). It’s a couple hours from BKXC’s property in Blairsden. All of us ride enduro dirt bikes, or smaller dirt bikes like XR100s. Just need a light arborist chainsaw for daily regular tree work.
@texasyankee10133 жыл бұрын
I'll disagree, that machine will go places you'll never think about taking a four wheeler. You have to be in shape and the learning curve is not just getting on and riding it, it's learning the characteristics of two wheel drive

8:46 my opinion on that trailer is that it is better to have a 'Y' shaped chassis where the support beam forks around the bucket , than the 'T' shaped chassis where the beam goes directly below the bucket This way, the bucket is inside the chassis, not above it The bucket can then be deeper allowing a lower center of gravity, and the trailer hitch can be the same height as the motorbike so that it can be level ... The wheels would also be outside the width of the bucket

This is awesome! When you first bought the property I wanted to bring up motorcycles, but it seems like a mixed bag in the biking community. As a kid that grew up riding dirt bikes and bikes I appreciate both. If you have any friends with dirt bikes its a great, and quick way to cut trail. Best of luck, love the project and great work as always!
@mattspen3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, especially if you use throttle control you avoid tearing up the trails and groom out the bumps a new trail tends to have or if you want to blaze new trail let the throttle rip anywhere you intentionally want to smooth bumps.

Lower the tire pressure it will smooth the ride out and get better traction.
