Your fanfic answer was pretty much what I'd think, if I'd be in the situation. That being said, mentioning that even the writers wouldn't want that (which I usually agree with, fandom spaces are for fans) made me think of "Little Achievements" where two Star Trek actors acted out a whole story their characters were written in and the fanfic author introduced them. Absolutely depends on the actors and writers, and probably the content itself lol.
@AlexBsSecret Жыл бұрын
some fanfictions were even made into movies, like the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise is basically made out of fanfiction
@aquaverdea Жыл бұрын
It's an interesting question and I absolutely respect Perths pov on it. I can understand how people writing fanfic about you could be something you don't want to consume. If I was an actor and there were fanfics written about m I don't think I'd want to read them either. I do enjoy watching actors respond positively to some fanfics though. It's the actors who get angry about it and attack the writers that really make me sad for fanfic writers.
@Lillian-9017 Жыл бұрын
It all depends if the weather the writers can take in a fun matter which is what most fanfiction writers do
@ledasdaughter_ Жыл бұрын
@@AlexBsSecret well, it's not about fanfic not being made into things at all, if that were an issue, then half of contemporary media wouldn't exist - it's about actors whose roles are written about in fanfic not reading those. Sometimes they do, and very rarely that is a good thing. Most of the time, people at events will make actors read bits of fanfic to make fun of fanfic writers and that leaves everyone feeling super bad, including the people who are asked to make fun of their own fans. Generally, fanfic is from and for fans and never for the actors whose roles are written about and most certainly not when RPF is involved.

Fan service is just what it is…acting for the fans. If everyone just takes it for what it is…then everyone would be more satisfied. Thanks for this one Perth! I always enjoy your videos.
@CarlosEduardo-iw9jr Жыл бұрын
But that doesn't make sense as most fans who are girls generally believe that besides fan service, what's the point of acting for fans outside of the series? In real life ? using its name and everything is completely different and problematic.
@clbert7460 Жыл бұрын
@@CarlosEduardo-iw9jr I would guess that depends on one’s own interpretation. I would use the term “fan service” to inform people that these are activities to promote the series or other products. No production company wants the fans to stop shipping their actors. I’m curious, why would it make a difference if the fan is male, female or gender neutral? When I see BL actors doing fan service, it gives me an opportunity to see them continue in their “roles” unscripted. But I recognize it for what it is, part of their job. I think it is much more difficult for an actor especially when some of them are new to the field. And sometimes you can tell that they really are not comfortable with the situation or their partner, but hopefully continuing to do fan service will help them with that in the future. You can also see when people have a genuine affection or partnership with each other. I don’t think that you have to be gay to like another person of the same gender or feel comfortable enough to hug them or even kiss them. That often comes with familiarity and a person’s own comfort level societal pressures aside.
@IrinNovy Жыл бұрын
I personally hate fs because it it lying after all. If people have a genuine connection, then they should just be themselves and not force anything. I totally understand why they do it, but I hate questioning the actual feelings of the people. And I am not just talking about BL, but in general: other series, k-pop, etc. I know some pairs (for lack of a better term in this situation) really like each other and do things because they want to (at the same time thinking that fans will like it) but I really hate when people pretend and force connection playing with fans. At the end of the day it stops being fun and turns into lying and sometimes even ship wars.
@clbert7460 Жыл бұрын
@@IrinNovy I understand your feeling because you think of fan service in a different way than I do. I think FS is part of their job as actors, they do it because the company insists on it, their sponsors want it and the fans like it. I consider FS acting; to me they are behaving the same way they do in their dramas so I don’t question their feelings, in either situation. As we know people are going to believe what they want to believe, regardless.

@AlexBsSecret Жыл бұрын
since it was his 1st major role I'm pretty sure he didn't, and he also mentioned in the video that he respects the vision of the director and doesn't make suggestions concerning his outer appearance for roles. However, more well-known and established actors do this sometimes, or at least they gain the power over time to say no to some things. Just remember, acting might look like art but in the end of the day it's a job and they get paid to show that they can play completely different characters, look different, speak and behave different. That's what makes good actors.

Lemme just say, I feel like as much of a Yaoi trainwreck as some of Thai BL is, I think that the shows are helping give visibility to the marriage equality cause. In Asia, it is still only Taiwan with marriage equality. Rumour has it Thailand is the next closest. Oh how I wish it was us in Japan... But you never know, Japan either does not change or it changes in the blink of an eye. We could have a 300 year wait, or we might change tomorrow. Who knows?

Thanks Perth for making this video. I felt it’s so necessary to have someone give an induction session to the BL entertainment industry to us beginners. Well done 😊

Thanks for explaining your take on the bl series and your responsibility as a actor in them. I'm a fan of most all Asian movies and TV shows. I have been for a long time. There is still much I don't understand so I hope you do a third video in this set. Thank you for your time and truthfulness. Sending best wishes and support from kentucky, USA

Thank you so much for this video, Perth! ❤ It was really interesting to hear you answering these questions, giving us some insights into the industry and sharing your experiences! I just wanted to let you know that we (speaking on behalf of the fans, I guess 😂) appreciate you not only as a BL actor but as an actor in general as well as a great person. You are cherished not only due to our interest in BL stuff but for other things that you do! Also I wanted to mention that you inspire me to learn languages! I’m not a native English speaker and watching your videos helps me practice my listening skills a lot, because you speak so clearly and it’s easy for me to understand Thank you again ❤

I got to know you through CutiePie, and a while later you participated in a Podcast that I found very interesting. I really liked your sincere and respectful posture. I am grateful that you make these videos showing your point of view and your personal tastes. I will try to follow your videos more constantly. I wish you much success 🙏 Love from Brazil! 😽💚💛💙

Hi, Perth, awesome video! I would love to see a third video like this with one of your fellow BL actors who has had different experiences than you in the BL industry, just to hear another perspective. Thanks for your willingness to share with your Pandelions and for considering our suggestions. We love you!

Looking forward to seeing you at タイフェス🇹🇭 this weekend!!! I always love how down to earth you explain things and answer questions and I would definitely love a part 3. Random confeaaion time... I would love to star in a BL and am infinitely sorry I am not an Asian male. My Thai sucks, but I would do Japan or Taiwan in a heartbeat. Lol

This is very interesting. I've always felt like the way the "couples" are worked by the studios is not especially healthy. I wish GMM for example would mix up the actors rather than always keeping them together as couples. While I suppose it's OK when they have good chemistry, I think it's limiting and some fans really go overboard with the ships in a way that isn't healthy.

Thank you for answering some of the questions we all have at times. I liked you a lot in Cutie Pie and K&P and love the fact that you are polyglot as it adds dimension to your characters. You are very interesting to listen to. I like someone articulated who can explain clearly a process, which you did. Seeing you as yourself now makes me want to see you more on screen, so I hope the industry can write you as the main character of a bl soon! It shouldn't be hard to make your accent part of the story. Come on writers, to your pen and write us an interesting story about a Thai guy who lived abroad and finds love on a gorgeous Thai beach. Please! :)

I appreciate this video so much for some reason. Like.. It just really answered all the questions I had and it’s interesting to see how a BL actor’s mindset is like and how they work. The Thai entertainment industry is still very much small and not as English inclusive, if that makes sense? It’s just hard to find content with English subtitles, so Perth is a godsend.
11:50 Yes Perth! I absolutely LOVE all the recent dramas calling out the need to legalize gay marriage in Thailand and breaking any remaining stigmas. It makes me so happy and proud 🫶💖

It was interesting to hear many stories I wanted to know! I hope you will do it again✨✨ The Thai bl actor industry is a bit like the Japanese voice actor industry. I have been thinking that the Thai voice acting industry is similar to the Japanese voice acting industry because Japanese voice actors also expand their activities by holding events and radio shows in combination with their hit series.

I thought it was actually really cool in Kinnporsche when you'd speak english - also how your accent is aussie, Chan's is british and vegas was american - it just felt more international and unique as a show with those little english additions

I like the hard-fast "nope" at reading fanfic. That's a great boundary for yourself. I can imagine the wild rabbit hole that could lead you down and potentially mess with your mental health. Also yes, there is fanfic for everything. I once stumbled upon Food Network fic. If there's a will there's a way. 😂😂

This was such a great video, I loved hearing your perspective and gaining a bit of knowledge about how things come together with the shows I absolutely love. I love that you touched on some of the more basic aspects of the BL industry. The costuming for example and the heat. I just finished watching Chains of Heart and one of the main characters Lue, always wore suit jackets and blazers or leather coats and leather gloves. I mean his wardrobe was practically it's own character, I don't know how on Earth he could stand it and what was crazy was he never seemed to be sweaty. Sometimes I watch a series and you can see the actor sweating, not on their clothing but on their face and around the hairline. The team responsible for keeping that from showing deserve some sort of award! In any case, I have enjoyed your work and appreciate the time you take to make these videos, your Thai lessons videos are fantastic and I look forward to seeing you in more roles in the future!!

15:20 I loved every time you spoke English in KinnPorsche I kept referring to you as Ken the Australian cuz it rhymes even before I knew you were actually Australian 😂 My favourite line was “are you fuckin dumb bro?”

That was a great Q&A, I have enjoyed you in the four series you mentioned, and even more on KZbin. You cover many topics that I am interested in. I also love the way you seem to be able to adjust to both sides of your heritage without giving up either. I salute your parents it is a hard thing to balance two cultures. (Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt) Acting is a hard career on the wallet, it takes a lot of guts to not only chase the primary dream, but to work hard as an entrepreneur takes guts and perseverance. It was strangely comforting to hear that your brother runs lines with you, that means you have family support, which is heartwarming. So keep up the hard work, looking forward to seeing your future projects, blessings on you and yours.
