@@cryptiii9270 You're (partly) right. It seems like a misconception I perpetuated that seemingly came from the Dwayne Johnson having been approached and expressing interest in the role by 2007. According to wiki, the movie didn't start development until 2017 though, as that's when they divided the story between Shazam and Black Adam. In 2014, Johnson was still just attached as Black Adam in Shazam!. Thanks for bringing this to my attention so I'd check the facts.

This is definitely a role that The Rock was NOT just playing The Rock. He is usually fast talking, loud, charismatic and spouting off one liners. In this film he was deadpan, subdued, stoic, brooding with rage bubbling under the surface. Waaaay different. So props to him for flexing his acting muscles some. Especially with the sorrow of a father that experienced loss.

My favorite scene was when Hawkman and Dr. Fate tried to get Black Adam to surrender, and Black Adam said “I don’t surrender. It’s Adamin Time.” Then proceeded to Adam over everyone before ushering in a new age of peace in Kahndaq. The after credits scene was really spectacular when we saw the Anti-Monitor show up setting up Crisis on Infinite Earths, and we see a shadowy figure walk up to Adam. It turns out that it’s Morbius who wants to put a team together to stop the Anti-Monitor. Then Bully Maguire and Dancin Have Sex Pooped His Pants Again Milo show up and they all say “It’s Morbin Time!” This was truly one of the movies ever! Deserved all of the morbillion dollars that it received.

The most love I could give this movie was in regards to its portrayal of the Gandalf-esque Doctor Fate and how strongly he is characterized. Nearly everyone in the film is some kind of archetype, but Kent manages to keep his master wizard-veteran superhero archetype engaging and interesting with the inclusion of his precognition being a source of torment, having to live with images of countless terrible futures, often involving his friends dying along with other innocent people, that never occurred because of his intervention, but nonetheless haunt him. But despite the horrors, he maintains a calm and collected demeanor around his allies and in the field, even patiently observing and waiting for the other more reckless characters to fail and squabble until they are ready to actually do something relevant. And in the face of an unavoidable scenario where his best friend would die saving the world, he doesn’t hesitate to take his friend’s place and is rewarded by being freed from the burden of seeing the future as his own life draws to an end, going so far as to describe it as “beautiful”. Amidst all the played out tropes and tired cliches, Fate was a character that actually had multiple layers to his character that was more than the sum of its parts.

For me, this movie felt fresh in a sense from all of the bland movies we were getting with marvel and such. I really liked the ending and the character development with Black Adam was pretty good. The acting was really good when speaking the main 3 characters that being BA, Doctor fate, and Hawkman. Before going in I was thinking this movie was going to be the next multiverse of madness but I genuinely enjoyed it. I agree with the music being weird in most places and there are a lot of generic moments in the film, but for what the movie is and what it was trying to do I think it subverted my expectations and I definitely came out loving it more then I thought I would but that’s just my opinion. P.S. it’s miles better then the josstice league, and I hope we get hawkman in the second justice league cause his character was so sick

It's Dwayne Johnson but he kills people for over an hour. There's a kid whose constantly in another universe mentally and they don't even TRY to act like there's some logical, deep moral lesson- "It's okay to kill people or something idk" is the theme of the movie. The mom character gets suggested help from these other super heroes and she's like "Look I genuinely don't care if you guys are good or not I don't mind murder" and it's just, THAT'S THE WHOLE MOVIE I don't know if DC fans hate this movie or if it's considered garbage- but god, as someone who knows nothing about the comics or other DC movies, this whole movie feels like a shitpost in the best way possible. It's definitely endearing in a way though. It's a movie that's hard to hate unless you're HELLBENT on it being a dictionary definition "Good movie" or something. Like yeah that kid? WORST acting I've ever seen in my life- but my god DO NOT CUT HIM FROM THE FILM, DO NOT HELP HIM, HE'S SO MUCH MORE ENTERTAINING. Disagree about the music thing too- that DUNNNNNNNNNN that you hear every time The Rock appears on screen is amazing. You NOTICE it and then you don't stop noticing it- it's that obvious, but it kinda adds to the weirdly lighthearted, almost tongue-in-cheek feel of a lot of what's supposed to be otherwise serious and exhausting.

after that one ad with Dwayne Johnson in the dark room with laser focused eyes where he just lightly claps it was officially impossible for me to take this movie even remotely seriously

Black Adam with the washed-out and gritty color pallet actually kind of makes sense because it’s in a desert. Never liked how they did the same thing for every one of their other movies though except for probably “THE Suicide Squad” and “The Batman”. The Batman was dark but it wasn’t this tacked on grittiness and the movie was built and shot with that in mind

This is the most The Rock movie The Rock has ever Rocked. Is it a great film? No. But is it a good film? Also no. Plot makes no sense. BUT it's fun as hell, and Imma be coming back to it for sure. I like seeing the Rock punching bad dudes and things.

I dont think this movie is that great, but you can feel the passion and excitement that went into making it. The Rock clearly loves black adam, and that love carries this movie far, especially when compared to Thor L&T, where it seemed like the only person who cared was Christian Bale

My biggest problem with the rock is that he has no range as an actor he just plays himself and his ego doesn't allow him to play a character that appears to weak or struggles at all and that's what really irritates me about his movies it's just him stroking his own ego and portraying himself as this big strong man and I'm so tired of that

He played a gay bodyguard in be cool, a coked- up jesus freak in pain and gain and a socially awkward teenager in jumanji and he was good in all those movies. He's much better than you give him credit for.

I definitely enjoyed Black Adam more than any other DCEU films. While Shazaam had a better story and it is an amazing movie… Those action scenes in Black Adam… the whole theatre went wild!
