Happy new year everyone! Thank you guys so much for subscribing and being a part of my KZbin/Jiujtisu/life journey. 2022 will be a breathe of fresh air and opportunity after 2 tough years in a row. I can feel it. I have a lot of planned and am looking forward to helping everyone in their jiujitsu journey! Also a big thank you to Robert for being on the show. I had to be on my A game for this one. Don't be fooled by my dominance. Robert is super skilled and deadly! 🙏👊🙂

Only started back in October (about 2 and a half months ago), but had a really cool but hard (for me because I was so out of shape) first session. For context i was 275lbs and hadnt exercised hard in a few years. Went in on an open mat night, after dming the fb page, where it was just the professor, another black belt and two blue belts. Joined in on the warmup, jogged the laps, did the stretches etc. I was ready to pass out and thought the warmup was done, but then the black belt showed me shrimping, technical stand ups and butt scoots while the other guys completed the warmup doing all those moves and rolls. Was already ready to vomit. Excused myself, got sick, came back and the black belt showed me some basics like a scissor sweep from guard (because I was nearly too tired to stand and didnt want to vomit on the friendly black belt) into a mount into an americana (with me taking vomit breaks every few minutes). Professor had me "roll" with him after about 35 minutes, as a last thing before I finished up. Was super fun even though I was exhausted because he guided me to do everything and would then put in a little fake "resistance" like lightly squirming essentially. I knew obviously he'd flip, bend and break me six ways to sunday if he wanted to but it was so incredibly encouraging. Then after he guided me to the americana we stood up, went again and he did some guard into a back take by taking me off my feet and juggling me with his legs (and I outweigh him by like 100lbs) then put me in a collar choke. I was laughing the whole time out of excitement or joy in his ability to just absolutely ragdoll me. He was smiling too and said as he was doing it "Keep doing jujitsu for a few years and you can do this to people too". I packed up and asked could I stay and watch the guys roll for the last 30 minutes. He said ofc and I've been hooked since. Managed to finish the whole drill classes and not vomit after about 3 weeks, and I've been rolling and learning since. Down nearly 30lbs now, hopefully keep losing some. Feel very lucky that the gym is relatively small because I get so much almost 1-on-1 training with the blue to black belts and the professor. My goal for 2022 is try to focus on surviving, escaping and just getting a better position and hopefully pick up a few taps along the way. Ideally get some stripes or if I really really commit and get lucky, a blue belt.

I get a lot of dumb rude comments haha. It's like some people have never heard a monotone voice before lol. That's one people love to point out. I had a recent one too where someone said I wasn't a blackbelt because I fixed my rashguard when it rode up 😅. The internet is a weird place. I think keeping track of the points in your head is SUPER smart to do. That's exactly what I did as a white/bluebelt. It makes for a clear objective when there's no submission. I still do it if I roll someone really good haha.

It was a private lesson and he taught me 3 submissions and a couple escapes, he also taught me how to move around on my opponent from side control to north south (private parts all in my face btw) back to side control on the other side. He also taught me how to keep retention on a yoga ball. Time went by so fast and I loved it! Hurt my knee over the holidays but I can't wait till it heals so I can get back on the mat!

Black belt in analyzing and explaining stuff! :D As "thank you" for sharing this with us here is the idea for you... I would literally pay for your explanation of some of my rolls and videos. Pointing out mistakes and giving advice how to fix them. Not only that, but I would probably be ok with you sharing them publicly, which can bring even more revenue through youtube. Stunning video. Love how you string your attacks together, with a failover either way - escalate forward and backwards. I only very recently learned the concept that it is okay to back out, like you do with the legs during a pressure pass, and not continue the pressure forward, which would give him that tighter connection on the legs. And yes, I use the idea of keeping the toes engaged on the floor more often too. The things we know we should do, but don't 😀 And definitely making a difference!

That leg lock spécialist was more concern about passing your guard. I love leg lock, if you ve watch ken shamrock vs pat smith , paul sass grapple or gary tonon, good leg lockers dont try to pass guards, they shoot for the stars and threaten your legs 24/7 when they roll. And, Jordan, you re so skilled its sick, you should roll with high level elite grapplers.

My 1st class.....Tanya, Literally more than 100lbs smaller than me, was a blue belt I believe or a very seasoned white belt, rolled me 2 rounds in a row and I got tapped over 20x. Most of them armbars...I remember thinking that if a person half my size could do this to me (I was 220lbs back then) that I needed to learn this stuff right away. From that night on I couldn't wait to do that to the "new guy" in a couple months or so lol Ive been hooked ever since. 2 years, 8 months and a blue belt later, I can now finally tap the "new guy" Great video Jordan and for anyone watching, Bobby is a leg lock beast! I look fwd to his classes every week!

Damn I'm gonna watch this video over and over. I got destroyed and continue to get destroyed by leg locks. It's just never something my training at my schools have covered (more traditional bjj). So I started to attend a weekly leg lock class at another school to supplement. It's helped but I still get caught a lot by leg locks. So this video helps understand some concepts. Thanks again Jordan!
