Just bought my first 3 black convicts and I already love them. These fish don’t give a damn if a bigger fish bumps them. They’ll bump right back. Scrappy, is the word I’d use.

Have fun when they pop out 200 babies Lol. Hopefully you have all males or all females. I started out with 4 and now I have 30 so with that said a lot of the babies die and get eaten and even if you separate them half will die most likely

That explains it,I have a convict I call "the miracle",because when I switched fish with my buddy,I thoroughly cleaned my tank,pump,new decor,everything,cycled it then put the new fish in,a single Red devil,maybe a week later,I see something small floating around,come to find out I have a convict,I don't know where it came from,but,for two years it is the only thing the Red devil allows in the tank

Wow Just found your videos here on youtube about the convicts .Im a member on facebook of the mollies and the other one of mollies,guppies,platies and swordtails lol I have had a zebra convict for a while and finally found out it was a female after being told it was a male lol .I use to raise them years ago and just getting back into them.Have a mated pair now.Always loved the convicts and thanks for this video.Will be checking out the rest :)

Hi I have a 40 gallon tank and I was thinking of adding a few South American cichlids. Since I have only kept small schooling fish, gouramis, and African cichlids I want to know if I would be overstocking my tank if I got 2 black convicts, 2 electric blue accara cichlids, and one blood parrot. @@larrymorales4089 I wouldn't keep either the convict or angel alone, but don't do odd numbers because I had 3 angel fish once, and two killed each other over the third. They do great in pairs though. I think you could get away with it with proper filtration and maybe extra maintenance. Cheers!

Are Yellow convicts the same? If so can you mix all 3 colors? (yellow, pink, and black) I have a 75 gallon with 2 Marineland Emperor 400, and a 2 foot overhead planter filter with Pothos. How many would fit comfortably without overstocking and leaving room for a few other small fish. (Tank currently cycling with a small school of tetra but they have a home in another tank)

I have a new tank set up that's supposed to be a cichlid tank. Its 20 gallons and I plan on upgrading in the future. I have a black convict, a red parrot, a red severum, a high finned spotted pleco, and a clown loach. Any tips or anything I should know? The convict has been picking on the loach and parrot but they've been able to find good hiding spots away from the convict. Btw they're all juveniles.

Hi Dylan, Just rescued one and put it with my dragon bloods and electric blue hap. Also with peppermint bristlenoses. They are very study and she has asserted herself in an unclaimed hiding hole. Scares my big boys off but never bites. She also have awesome reds. Definitely suggest she works well with my African cichlids and isn’t too aggressive only snaps when they snap at her.

shane L Yes that could help because it would give them another fish to focus on and draw their attention away from each other. The convict would probably get pretty beat up but they are super tough.

Can somebody please give me advise please. I have 2 convict cichlids I want to breed but it is impossible for me to tell male from female. I think they both have an orange stomach, one is a lot more obvious then the other. However, they have both dug out 2 nests beside each other and spend a lot of time in a cave together and are protective of that area. Is this just normal behavior between convicts that can be the same sex or is it possible they are male and female pairing up? Thanks in advance, I had them 2 days now.

they turned out to be 2 females. They laid 2 sets of eggs in 2 different places which lead me to believe they were male and female. But I look up online that female convicts will lay eggs without a male anyway. I know this because after a day all the eggs turned white because they were unfertilized by a male and ended up being eaten by the females. I got 2 males now and should spawn soon thanks.

I had planned for convicts fry to feed the rest of the aquarium (pink convicts), sort of nature in a glass container.. in over 8 generations of Cichlids only 2-4 would survive (Natural bio system). Then i got foggy water, and since the fry were not visible to the rest of baby eating monsters (kidding), over 50+ have survived. Here is a lesson.. you want to have lots keep water in an algae bloom foggy situation.. now i got super swimmers problem.. you should see them feed.. little bullets pewww pewww!! Like baby piranhas
