Amazing how nature is. That bird was patient to ensure the fish was dead before downing it. The video quality is incredible! Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant camera work! I'm always amazed how a smallish bird can actually swallow such a big fish!

I'm agog. What riveting footage. He took his time before swallowing, and I'd like to know why? Letting the fish die? Working up his courage to put something that big down his craw? Savoring pride in his catch? (Not likely.) But when he finally did swallow what looked to be an impossibly large fish, it all went so quickly and easily. No problem!

He's turning it around to take it head first so the scales facilitate his successful swallow of the fish.

@@markhuggins5922 In addition to that this was a big fish for a black-crowned hight heron and he had some difficulty turning it around.

some fish have really pointy spines, he was suffocating it until it got too tired

@@456yukon That makes so much sense. And since I wrote that comment five years ago, I've had occasion to see many herons down big fish. That doesn't surprise me anymore, but I should have figured out--thank you for telling me--that he's suffocating the fish.

Ma786sai Dua amazing skill of the night heron. I love their peculiar, most distinctive call also, a far-carrying Wak Wak as they set off each night on their nocturnal raids.

That fish looked DOA in his beak. Did he spear it? The wound wasn't apparent.

That large fish also looked somewhat out of place in that area that seemed to have minimum water and didn't struggle at all!

Amazing capture! Wow so was that unlucky big fish swallowed down alive? I wonder if it stood any slim chance of escape (or damage the birds insides) if eaten in that condition as well?!
@michaeldeierhoi40965 жыл бұрын
Once swallowed the fish is done. The heron seemed to have trouble with turning this fish AND swallowing it because it was so big. And I love that red eye of this adult black-crowned night heron which is yellow as a juvenile.
