Black Death is a much better title than what it is also called-Quiet Killer.

The book came out in the 70's I have it. The cover has a giant rat crouched over New York. Kate Jackson's character is a man named Adam. There's no Jake Prescott, and Dr. Lipsky , the blonde doctor, is a man too. No congressman or teacher. She took the bus. A pimp and hooker enter the scene though, and There's no Rafael Ortiz (the doorman) either.They wanted to use the title swap to make it updated for the 90's, I guess.

From what I remember, the major problem is that there's a garbage strike and thus lots of rats everywhere and thus its spreading like crazy. I also think it became the pneumonic variety which is spread more easily person to person.
